1. Describe how you feel a college education will help you make a difference in the Latino community.
Receiving a college education would make a difference not only in my life but in my community. I would expand my horizons to be a role model and help those in my great Latino community. By helping them get the help they need from doctors to tutors and psychologist that’ll help them maintain the inspiration to continue their education. By showing them how going to school and getting a college education can impact their lives for the better. By providing my Latino community with the resources and help that’ll they need can make a huge difference for the future.
2. Define your concept of leadership and describe a person in your life (other than a family member) that demonstrates those qualities.
Leadership in my own point of view isn’t at all about telling your coworkers what to do. It’s all about working as a team and still responsibly completing your duties while still having fun. An admirable person to me would be my previous Assistant Manager at my current job Best buy, his name is Brandon K. He was a huge influence in my life. He showed me that working can be both stressful and fun, in the long run being an endeavor well worth it. Brandon took time to get to know each and every single worker at Best Buy. He would set goals for us to accomplish at work and help us reach them. He was able to help us grow professionally in our jobs at the same time becoming a very valuable
What comes to mind when you hear the word leader? Martin Luther King, Jr., John F. Kennedy? According to Webster's Dictionary, a leader is "one who leads." After participating in the Leadership Program, I have learned that a leader is hard to summarize.
A good leader shows others the proper way to act in everyday life. Good leaders help others with their challenges but they also acknowledge that they themselves have challenges in everyday life. A good leader is there to support and aid anyone at anytime. Even if that means getting up early to help before a long day or staying after a hard day and provide guidance those who need it a true leader will do it. Leaders put in the extra work to pick up the slack within the group if it is necessary. Leaders change groups into families. You can not be a leader over others if you first can not lead yourself in the proper way. The only thing different from leading yourself over leading others is that the actions you make while leading yourself only affect you, when you lead others, your actions affect you and others. The person has to be able to take responsibility over their own actions, respect themselves and show, do the work that is necessary and cooperate with
Leadership is all about having the right amount of heart and determination to help make a difference in someone’s life. It takes certain qualities to be considered a good leader. A leader should want to help inspire others to make a change and to be the best that they can be. A true leader does not need to feel powerful, instead they empower those around them. Throughout my life I have come across various leaders who have made an impact on my life. It takes a very special person to inspire and touch people’s lives. Leadership is so much deeper than having power and bossing people around.
If I receive a college education, I will inspire others in the Hispanic community to do so themselves. Education is a ripple effect, a ripple effect of success. By receiving a college education, I will help eliminate the stereotype that Hispanics are not educated. I will not be another statistic. I will serve as a symbol of progress. I will prove myself as a young independent and determined woman. I will be able to help others grow. I will be able to give back to my community. By gaining a college education myself, I can plant seeds in others and watch them grow and blossom into inspirations themselves. A college education will also help me in my profession of education. I will be able to teach children basic skills such as math and reading but also small life lessons each day like the power of kindness. A college education will help me help foster a young generation that will change this world for the better, as I strive to do
The Hispanic population is increasing at rapid rates, thus providing many opportunities to improve the economy and local hispanic communities. However, with the sufficient low rate of hispanic graduates from college our economy are being damaged and hispanic communities are being denied the proper evolution to get out of poverty. Our hispanic youth need to start taking more action into getting a higher education, to help our economy and communities evolve and better themselves. Being a young hispanic, I’ve seen both sides of the rich and poor. Those who mainly live in poverty are those whom don’t have a high education with them. This matters to me because I 've heard and witnessed of all sorrow and suffering poverty brings. Also, it hurts to see we have got such a powerful way of making actual change but we get held back because people think education is too hard, expensive, and a waste of time. If more of our hispanic youth had a higher graduation rate from college then our economy and local hispanic communities would be improved.
By definition a leader is a person who leads or commands a group however, I believe a leader should be a person who inspires his team excel in the worst of conditions. A leader should be extraordinary reliable as the team should know that the leader could guide them to the best of his abilities toward their goal. A leader should be persistent as they should be the motivational force leading the group. A leader should be patient and calm knowing that quality takes time and that the individual member of his team have obstacles to overcome on their own part.
My ideas to inspire and engage my generation of Hispanics is to go to college and show how we can all make it to our dreams. Even though there might be hoops and things we have to go through to be able to get there. Showing my achievements can show other people how they are able to also get there. In addition, provide my help with my services and whatever I can do to help other people get where they want to be. I want to be able to show what I have done, even though I might had going through extra loops due to limitations and different challenges were not enough to stop me to go where I want to go.
What is leadership? Is Leadership a choice or is it a trait? Through my experience at CGHS I have learned to answer both of these questions. Leadership is one guides a group to get the job done and it could be anyone you just have to forget about self confidence and help carry the group on your back. In my paper I am going to write about some real world examples in my life that show leadership.
“Leadership is the lifting of a man’s vision to higher sights, the raising of a man’s performance to a higher standard, the building of a man’s personality beyond its normal limitations.” - Management: Tasks, Responsibilities, Practices. Leadership is shown through actions, and the actions of Shackleton, leader of the Antarctic expedition, were always selfless. He showed his crew how to stay strong and preserver, Shackleton’s leadership influenced his men to work hard and respect one another.
Pursuing a higher education is something very important to who I am. From a very young age, my parents taught me the importance of education, despite never having a formal education themselves. I grew up in a very traditional Mexican household, and a goal of mine as a therapist would be to educate the Hispanic community on what physical therapy can offer. Both my maternal grandmother and paternal grandfather fractured a hip. Despite being the same age when their accidents occurred, the difference in their journey to recovery was vast due to the fact that my grandmother fractured her hip in Texas receiving physical therapy, and my grandfather fractured his hip in Mexico, where he didn't undergo physical therapy after his surgery. As a result, my grandmother regained her ability to walk with minor
Leadership is defined as the ability to accomplish a set goal(s) due to the act of inspiring and motivating a group of your peers. Former United States president Dwight D. Eisenhower made famous a quote that stated, “Leadership consists of nothing but taking responsibility for everything that goes wrong and giving your subordinates credit for everything that goes well.” (Notable-quotes.com). One of the most important aspects of the work area is leadership. Without leadership, there will be no guidance to for teamwork and the percentage of successful goal will be slim to none. Becoming a great leader is no easy feat however. An exceptional leader must lock in on specific attributes such as intellect, moral character, and human
What I hope to do with my education is to earn my bachelor’s degree in Journalism with a minor in Spanish at Central Connecticut State University. I hope in college that I will be able to develop my skills into becoming an excellent writer, reporter, interviewer and speaker. With these skills, I aspire to become one of the first Hispanic/Latina sideline reporter for the YES Network Inc. Furthermore, I hope to one day host my own talk show to speak about important issues that pertain to the Latino community, such as education. I know what the value of an education is and how it should not be taken for granted. There are many countries from Latino origin where young children do not have the luxury to attend school nor learn the basic aspects of life. I hope with my platform and credentials, I can reach out to not only my community, but to
In my opinion, the best leader would be one that enjoys being the leader, is anyways there when I need him or her, sets tangible milestones, always believes that I can do everything, is optimistic, gets everyone involved, wants everyone to be successful, and lastly is courageous and brave. All these
“Leadership is influencing others by your character, humility, and example. It is recognizable when others follow in word and deed without obligation or coercion”.( Sonny Newman, president of contract manufacturer EE Technologies)
If you could in your own words define a leader what would you say a leader was? A leader could be considered many different things depending on who you ask. According to Merriam Webster’s dictionary a leader is a person or thing who leads. That’s a pretty broad definition. Sanjiv Kumar defines leadership as the ability to influence a group toward the achievement of goals (Kumar, 2014). BusinessDictionary.com defines a leader as a person or thing that holds a dominant or superior position within its field, and is able to exercise a high degree of control or influence over others. Leaders can be found in every setting. Examples of leaders include parents, teachers, religious leaders, managers, or even a band director.
