Over the past decade, we have integrated technology into many parts of out lives. We use our cell phones for everything from finding directions, to taking pictures of moments you do not want to forget. Everywhere you go, you cell phone goes with you, if you forget it at home, somehow we feel naked without it. Cell phones have become so powerful and useful for so many things other than just making phone calls; I do not even know why we still call them phones. With that, we have the right to feel secure and free from unwarranted searches though our cell phones and electronic devices.

Cell phones have become a necessary part of society. At least any teenager will tell you so. Many Americans have cellular devices, but the main age group I’d say ranges from thirteen to twenty-five years old. These are the ones who depend on cell phones to communicate with others. Cell phones were originally created to be a phone you can use on the go to make calls instead of using a landline, however; these crazy devices have now added features such as calculators, alarm clocks and even note pads. The features don’t stop there though, people use their phones for emailing, texting, video games, and searching the internet. The most popular feature of cell phones in today’s society is social media. Everyone seems to have Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram and sadly it seems like people are judged if they don’t.

For America, everything is innovative. Each day our lives get easier. Especially with today’s modern technology. Smartphones were a huge advancement for America. They are basically computer in our pockets. We can use them to get in touch with someone anywhere in the world. We have a phone, calculator, calendar, clock, timer, stopwatch, compass, alarm, the news, the weather, reminders, a camera, MP3 player, and map all in our hand. No matter where we are in the entire world! America’s gift to my generation is technology.

My phone has impacted my life in many ways. First, entertainment keeps me fascinated. I use Instagram to see what my friends are doing and to keep in touch of them. When I go to a place that I find is cool, I will take a cool picture and post it so my friends will see it. YouTube is a big part of my life. For example, every day when I get home I sit on the couch and watch YouTube for about 30 minutes as a break from school work. Also, communicating is easy to use. I communicate with my parents when I am at a party or just hanging out with my friends. For instance, when I bike up to the Harris Teeter or the Franklin Farm shopping center and meet up with my friends, I text my mom or dad saying that I am there so they know that I got there ok.

Thesis: The usage of cell phones in modern day society has caused quite the problem for citizens in this generation by being a major distraction, causing addictions, and has sadly became the main resource of communication.

At first, I was going to analyze and write about smartphones, however I found it more efficient to write also about a particular smartphone to narrow it down from such a broad technological artifact, such as answering who designed it, what for, what their position and the impact they want to have on society was, and their future visions. Therefore, I chose the iPhone as the centerpiece of smartphones I will be analyzing and an emphasis on applications. However, some of this information is relevant and interchangeable to all other smartphones. IPhones and smartphones allow us to access constant information and offer it the way we want it, as it is completely customizable now to fit our learning style.
