Advertisers have found a huge variety of ways to attract the kids they are targeting. They can get to kids through tv, there electronics, even where every one would think is a place empty of all ads but it really has more than anywhere else. School is the most advertised place in all of America. One of the main tactics advertisers use is when they put ads in schools. America is the country with the most ads in schools ever. For example you can find a lot of ads in math or reading books sponsored by unhealthy restaurant or snacks. Making kids crave those foods so much more. America is the most advertised filled country adding to the power of targeting kids at school found from ads in school. Another way, they
In today’s market driven society children can’t escape ads and their marketers, even their schools are filled with the advertiser’s products distracting the youth from learning.
No matter where children are or what they are doing they’ll always find some sort of advertisements. It can be when their casually watching television, reading a magazine or just playing games on their computer. Advertisements are different forms of communication whose purpose is to make their product known to the public. Marketers aren’t partial to certain people; they target anyone and every age group, but recently there has been an upsurge of advertisements aimed towards children. In Eric Schlosser’s article, Kid Kustomers, he demonstrates how child advertising has boomed by the tactics marketers use to get children to want and demand certain companies’ products.
Will Rogers once said, “Advertising is the art of convincing people to spend money they don’t have for something they don’t need.” Targeting youth by advertisements happens in all forms and advertising companies are the only ones getting the profit from it. Advertising affects the life of youths lives in many negative ways because it has skyrocketed health risks, lowers self-esteem and increases money spent by youth.
Beginning in the 1980, advertisers started to focus on children and tried to attract them to
4th School advertising is the final reason for why it became popular in the mid-1900’s. The school advertising started during the 1990s. It started a nationwide trend spreading fast rapidly throughout the U.S. District 11 in Colorado Springs was the first public school to school advertise and place ads in the hallways of the school. “District 11 faced revenue shortfalls thanks to growing enrollments and voter and hostility to tax increases for education” (Schlosser 51). “In 1996, school administrators decided to seek to negotiate help from a professional, hiring Dan DeRose, president of DD Marketing Inc”(Schlosser 51).
Advertisements also affect a child's own identity because "advertising manipulates [children] through their insecurities, working to define normality for them" (Source C). Children, especially pre-teens and teenagers, are essentially going through a multitude of crises with the most prominent one being and identity crisis. Figuring out who one is, is a vital step towards adulthood and independence, and with advertisements altering children's thoughts and ideas, their futures are not looking as bright. Without a sense of self, humans are nothing. They are simply mindless creatures just trying to survive. They have no intellectual independence and therefore, inventions, ideas, and discoveries will begin to slowly diminish. But, the manipulative ways of advertising can in facts be positive. With 15,312 promotions and public service announcements seen by children and teens annually (Source A), the world has a high chance of new generations of innovators and environmental heroes. If advertisements can, in a sense, manipulate children into doing positive things and taking actions, then yes, advertising to children is an extremely clever thing to do, and will benefit not only the viewers, but the world in
How do marketers do this? Well, according to “Why Kids Are So Vulnerable to Marketing: 'This Is Your Brain on Advertising,' Episode 5,” by New York Magazine. Marketers put ads all over websites anywhere they can fit, for instance, they have ads all over the sides of an article or game. Marketers even created games that seem like a legit game, but it just another ad for their product they are called “advergames.” Wondering Why? Well, according to “Marketing to Kids Gets more savvy with New Technologies,” by author unknown. One reason is marketers can advertise for very inexpensive prices because marketing on the web is the cheapest way, unlike other ads that cost a lot of money. For instance, a self-employed photographer could choose to buy $50 worth of online advertisements a month. Print ads can be expensive -- a single print ad in a local newspaper and or magazine can cost more than $100. Another reason is marketers can do it right under parents nose. For instance, an ad-savvy parent wasn’t aware how marketers were reaching out to their kids, getting around ad blockers. "While on the Webkinz site, Sweet recently clicked once a day for seven days on an ad for a film trailer that was posted for Judy Moody and the NOT Bummer Summer. She says that she wasn’t interested in the movie. But each day that she clicked it and answered three questions, she earned a virtual lime-green dresser and

Business marketers have wanted to get into schools for decades. Know why? Picture rows and rows of captive students who can't leave, switch channels during the commercial, or drag away the giant machine that plugs sugar-loaded soda. That's money in the bank for any company that can bypass the school doors. (McCollum)
Advertisement has become increasingly important to the funding of television shows, movies, and other such entertainment entities. Television is funded almost solely on commercials and no one really minds except for some grumbling about interruptions to the show, because they know that the television shows would not get the money and resources they need to be made without them. Schools need funding and resources that they are constantly lacking in, and while putting advertisements up may be irritating, the money and equipment gained through these partnerships will improve conditions at the schools and the advertisements will not get in the way of normal education, though these partnerships definitely need some restrictions before they should be allowed.
Children are the root of most advertisements; they are the impressionable bunch of the population, making it easier to target goods and products towards them. As the restaurant industry began to boom,
