I can’t believe I actually listened to my 28 year old wife Beth and bought this journal. But hopefully future generations will look apron this journal proudly and be grateful I wrote it. If I survive to finish it, I will know even though the travel to Oregon was no piece of cake I will be able to eat all the running cooked pig I want and be able to make some quick and fast cash from all the people coming in. They will have nowhere to go to buy supplies except me and a few other people. I am thinking of delaying the trip seeing as my wife is expecting soon.I don’t know how safe it would be for her to walk so far while pregnant. But alias, I have already bought and packed the wagon with our tools (like hammers, rope, exc), house furnishings …show more content…
It took us only a day towards alcove springs and we were already at a stand still looking for a way over the Kansas river we walked along it for about a day till we found a ferry that was willing to take us to the other side. When we finally made it to the other side, we decided we would wait a day till we would go any further. We decided to set up camp so we put our wagons in a circle formation and our livestock we just let loose in the middle. Before getting tents and blankets out we went looking for chips, which are disks of cattle, buffalo, and oxen dung. After we had gathered, enough we started a fire and cooked supper, which consisted of bacon and bread. Sometimes we ate buffalo if we were lucky enough to find some. The next morning we put out the fire, rounded up the livestock, and set off on our way to alcove springs. It’s been a long and boring five days, but we finally made it to alcove springs and restocked with water. Hopefully the rest of the trip isn’t this boring. We stayed about a day and left on our way to fort Kearny which should have some shops and stores where we can buy stuff. One day from reaching Fort Kearny and my wagon axle broke. We fixed it for now, but we need to find a blacksmith quickly before it breaks

A worn path is a story about a woman named Phoenix Jackson who needs to go a journey to town to get medicine for her sick grandson. It is a trip she has made before many times before (hence the title A worn Path) but there is something special about this trip, something different. In this paper I plan to dwell into the symbolism behind the Legend of the Phoenix and its relationship to her journey in the story. The legend of the Phoenix is about a fabled sacred bird of ancient Egyptians, said to come out of Arabia every 500 years to Heliopolis, where it burned itself on altar and rose again from its ashes young and beautiful; symbol of immortality. I think this story also represents Christian beliefs because the setting is

They had started the journey to their new home in the winter of 1838. The Adahy family along with their numerous friends and other family members, were extremely scared. They had no idea what was going to happen and about where their destination would exactly be. They walked on foot for the majority of the time and used their slaves and horses to carry their belongings.
The only major problem that occurred was that our canvas ripped on the wagon. The animals and all of my family members made it alive and we are all safe. I had the extra canvas in our repair kit and it only took a couple minutes to fix it.
Firstly, the travel began with loading their wagon, the internal conflict had to of been hard not knowing what they would face on their journey or truly what the oxen could handle pulling the great distances. They pretty much ended up loading everything right down to the stove and the piano. Shortly realizing the oxen couldn’t handle the weight of all their belongings. They had to start dumping their belongings on the
The Overland route was least expensive route costing usually between $600-$700 for a family of four. It took 3-5 months. People traveled by wagon trains in groups carrying basic supplies with them like food, water, and clothes. They had to cross hot burning deserts; steep mountain passes and flooded rivers. People faced problems when they ran out of their supplies and had no fresh water and food. Many died from drinking unsafe water and by getting diseases.
It was a harsh travel. We had to fix everything by ourselves wand with the stuff we had. There were no mechanics to come and help us fix our wagon. When someone got sick we had to leave them there or they could still go on the move till they got sick enough and fell over and died. There were no doctors! We traveled ten to fifteen
From home I am taking my Bible, extra set of clothes, bacon 25lbs, Jar of axel grease, harmonica, matches, rifle, 2 packets of bullets (40 bullets). I got to independence by riding on a flat boat it was fun but scary at times. We decided to take a cones toga because Willie already had 1. While I was crossing the river to get to the independence I discovered many new animals it went from a border collie to a bear there were so many I don't know what to do with my life. I had to abandon my best friend Tommy he was scared of water so we had to leave him. Willie Jones knew some people so that's how we found a wagontrain to join. Joe King was our train later he's very smart and strong willed I think Wheely would be a better leader just because I know him better I like how we have to feed her animals so they survive because I think it's really important that they get their food I think one of the rules I should be change if we have to travel in the same light every day like let's say that it was joking then Bailey then Willy we would have to stay like that everyday. We decided to take a Horse because oxen are slow and we got two
After we got our supplies we started walking. Soon after about one and a half months of walking we made it to New York.
This story happened in 1860. We used ships, walking, and trains to get everywhere back then.
Now we are leaving Alcove Springs and toward Fort Kearny that is 319 miles away and is a 11 day trip. We were on our way when during a storm one of the wagon wheels was blown clean off. This was once again a major problem taking us a week to find a replacement and put it on. Then 4 days later another storm came, ripping a hole straight through the canvas. Once again we had to waste money to buy a canvas which took 2 days for us to get moving
It took 2 days to get to where we camped. We camped 30 miles northwest of Maybell, and we stayed their for 2 days. On the second day, I killed my first elk in the evening. While we were on the way back we stopped in Rifle to get us all a victory whopper burger. The burgers were delicious mine had pickles, onions, ketchup,
The most important thing for anyone going on a road journey is to keep themselves hydrated. It is best to have a lot of water and fruit juices, so as to drink them regularly to remain hydrated. It is best to take an ice-pack containing perishable food items which can be kept cool to increase their shelf life. It is advisable to take with you a big bag of non-perishable snacks, paper napkins, wet wipes, plastic utensils and couple of garbage bags to keep trash in and throw out at regular intervals in the trash bins. Having a supply of food material, drinks, juices, water and other essential items helps save those extra dollars.
