Prostitution has been known of for thousands of years. The term derives from the Latin “ prostituere” which means “to cause to stand in front of”. Today, prostitution can be defined as granting non marital sexual access for remuneration, under terms established by mutual agreement of prostitutes, their clients and their employers. According to the Uniform Crime Report about 60,000 prostitution arrests are being made annually. In some nations prostitution is legal while other nations punish prostitution with the death penalty (Siegel, 2014, p. 361). However, prostitution can also be forced. Many women are forced to enter the sex trade, therefore, to put an end to international sex trade, men who hire prostitutes should be punished very severely.
The Sex Trade is “the exploitation of women, men and children, within national or across international borders, for the purposes of forced sex. Sex trade, or also known as Human trafficking violates the Human Rights that people are born with; especially the right not to be submitted to slavery, servitude, or forced labor (Napolitano, 2016, p.1). Human trafficking is a horrific international crime that does not discriminate because the victims can be of any ethnicity, age or gender, however, most of the victims are women. Most of the poorest and most unstable countries have the highest incidences of human trafficking.
Traffickers use force and fraud to pressure their victims into sexual exploitation. A way that fraud can be used to
Sex trafficking is a global problem that involves the exploitation and abuse of girls as well as women. This paper will discuss the problem, with an emphasis on the views expressed by Paola Monzini in her book Sex Traffic: Prostitution, Crime and Exploitation. The paper will look at the causes, consequences and prevalence rates of sex trafficking and will consider the impact of such factors as globalization and women’s poverty in perpetuating the problem or making it worse. The paper will conclude with a discussion of the ways in which a human rights perspective might translate into positive action to eliminate the trafficking of girls and women.
human trafficking is one of the fastest illegal trade in the world especially in countries such as China. Human trafficking is more of a modernized type of slavery that involves fraud, force, or having the trafficker persuade their victims to do something by using force or threats. Many victims of human trafficking victims fall prey to this type of crime by being sold by family, abducted, tricked, or lured in by false jobs advertisement, and many more. Human trafficking is a booming illegal business where the criminals can exploit women and child for services that involve labor or sex which can also be accessed on the internet. When these victims become involved in human trafficking, they become high risk to abuse, drug use, and sexually transmitted diseases. A lot of these sex trafficking victims are forced to work in places such via online ads or escort services, fake massage parlors, residential brothels, on the streets, hotels and motels, and sweatshops.
Sex trafficking is essentially systemic rape for profit. Force, fraud and coercion are used to control the victim’s behavior which may secure the appearance of consent to please the buyer (or john). Behind every transaction is violence or the threat of violence (Axtell par. 4). Just a decade ago, only a third of the countries studied by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime had legislation against human trafficking. (Darker Side, par.1) Women, children, and even men are taken from their homes, and off of the streets and are brought into a life that is almost impossible to get out of. This life is not one of choice, it is in most times by force. UNODC estimates that the total international human trafficking is a
Sex trafficking is a problem that is happening and occurring all over the world. Many families and individuals suffer due to sex trafficking. Many people are not even aware of what it really is. Sex trafficking is when young girls, as young as five or six, get kidnapped and are used for the sexual pleasure of others with a profit, or are sold as sex slaves to other people. The official definition is, “Human sex trafficking is a form of slavery and involuntary servitude resulting in grave human rights violations. Sex trafficking involves individuals profiting from the sexual exploitation of others and has severe physical and psychological consequences for its victims.” (The
The illegal trade and exploitation of human beings for forced labor, prostitution and reproductive favors is defined as human trafficking. Human trafficking is a global issue and is second only to the international drug trade in regards to organized crime. Many reports say that, it is a multi-billion dollar business affecting several million people in every country across the world. The two main types of human trafficking are: human sex trafficking, and forced labor, both making up what society describes as “modern-day slavery.”
In today’s world, people believe that all enslavement or forced labor of any kind has quietly deceased over the years, that all types of enslavement are behind modern societies and totally in the past, yet it has been exactly the opposite. An international office stated, “ Only one out of 100 victims of trafficking is ever rescued. This means around only 24,000 out of the 2.4 million people enduring human trafficking will be spared,” (“Combating Human Trafficking”). Human trafficking is still a very big problem across the world, even in the United States. Human trafficking has only increased over the past two decades. It is also not likely that a person being trafficked is only enduring this for a few months and then is set free; people are victims for multiple years, possibly even decades. Human trafficking is still a serious threat to innocent lives across the planet because rates are increasing, people are stuck in that vicious cycle for years, and it is damaging millions of people everyday.
Prostitution is known as the “world’s oldest profession” and involves the sexual exploitation of women or children. Many victims of the horrible business are forced to “sell” their bodies to men and women for sexual relations. Over a hundred years ago, sex trade was tolerated and was allowed on the streets of American cities. Today, this practice is done throughout the U.S., despite it being illegal in forty-nine states. However, many violators of this law are never arrested for the crimes they committed. They kidnap or recruit women and adolescents for this industry, because these are the most vulnerable. There are different reasons why these individuals are pressured into morbid acts like this.
Sex trafficking has become and continues to grow as an industry. Sex trafficking is when someone uses force, fraud, or coercion to force a person to commit a commercial sex act. A commercial sex act includes prostitution, pornography and sexual performance done in exchange for any item of value such as money, drugs, shelter, food, or clothes. It’s able to grow because there’s a high demand. The buyer fuels the market with their money, then the trafficker/ pimp exploits victims to gain profit from the buyers, lastly the victim consists of girls and boys who are bought and sold for profit. Traffickers find victims through social network, home neighborhoods, clubs or bars, and school. Then lure them through protections, love, adventure, home, and opportunity. To ensure compliance and meet demands they use fear, violence, intimidation, and threats. The sex trade industry has to be terminated; the use of humans for profit is inhuman and remorseless. ("What Is Sex Trafficking? - Shared
Human trafficking refers to the movement of persons across borders for forced labor, sexual exploitation or other illicit activities. Sex trafficking is the most lucrative sector of human trafficking America, Southeast Asia, East Asia, Eastern Europe, and Russia. The global political economy, political corruption, human rights, gender and ethnic stratification, and migration are all related to human trafficking.
Sex -trafficking has not dissipated over time; it is a growing, adaptive market that is prevalent across the world. We are not talking about an industry that sells depleting commodities. Sex trafficking is a giant market that profits on human slavery. It is paramount that this issue be moved nearer to the forefront of global consciousness, in light of violations of basic human rights and losses of autonomy.
Prostitution, “Providing or receiving sexual acts, between a prostitute and a client, in exchange for money or some other form of remuneration” (Hock 557). The idea of exchanging sex for valuables has been seen since the beginning of human society. The first reported data about prostitution was reported around 3000 B.C.E in Mesopotamia, one of the first known civilizations (Caraboi and Fierbinteanu 362). Also, prostitution is often referred to as “the world’s oldest profession.” Today, even though prostitution is illegal in most parts of the world, prostitution is still prevalent worldwide with many forms of prostitution and ways to exchange sexual services for payment. Street walkers are prostitutes who sell their services on the street, usually with the customer typically driving up to the prostitute. According to Roger R. Hock, professor of human sexuality and author of the textbook Human Sexuality, street walkers face the highest risk for arrest, violence and contracting sexually transmitted infections (STI’s) (Hock 558). Escorts can also be prostitutes; they are contacted in private by clients and are usually at less risk of violence. Another type of prostitute is brothel workers; brothel workers work in “a house of prostitution,” a brothel and are normally in areas with legal prostitution (Hock 560). These three types of prostitutes are the most common form of prostitution and can be seen worldwide. Similar to prostitution,

Prostitution is the act of engaging in sexual activity for financial gain. It is described as one of the oldest profession and one of the most controversial issues in the modern society. In the ancient world, prostitution was allowed as part of religious traditions in some cultures such as Greek where prostitutes were dedicated to gods. Today prostitution has become more open, and some countries such as Bulgaria and Netherlands have legalized the practice. In the recent past, ethics of prostitution have been debated with many people claiming that it is morally wrong. However, like all other controversial practices, prostitution has continued to thrive in the society as evidenced by recent headlines. In this paper, I will argue that prostitution is not morally permissible despite being around for thousands of years. Prostitution is an immoral transaction that has brought many negative impacts such as community policy issues, health issues, and religious issues.
Prostitution has frequently been touted as the world's oldest profession, for the simple fact that it has been prevalent in society for quite some time. In order to properly discuss the many social ramifications of this particular crime and possible ways for dealing with them, it is first necessary to define prostitution and to explore the reason why it is a crime. Prostitution is the exchange of money or monetary assets for sexual favors and pleasure. It is the paying for sex in all of its myriad facets, from conventional coitus to a number of lewd and arcane acts from which people derive pleasure. Prostitution is part of the sex industry, which includes legal business such as strip clubs (Weitzer 7). There are a couple of different reasons as to why exchanging money for sex is deemed illegal. One principle reason is that if it were legalized, it would be exceedingly difficult for the government to tax and to capitalize off it, which is one of the reasons in which marijuana is widely considered illegal. More importantly, however, prostitution is illegal because it promotes the objectification of women and their bodies, and inherently reduces the degree of parity between men and women in which the latter are viewed as things simply for the fulfillment of men's sexual desires. Additionally, there are a variety of noxious activities that accompany prostitution such as trafficking in which the will of another is subjected to someone else's.
Prostitution, is a topic that is often debated on whether it is good or bad employment. There are over 42 million prostitutes in world and there are 1 million men, women, and children working in the U.S. Prostitution is a underground sex trade where women sell their bodies to men or women who pay them. The sex trade or should I say “prostitution’’is not only wrong but also very dangerous. There are people who think it’s a great way to be employed or see it as another way through life.
