Not only traffickers are reason for the continuous human trafficking and slavery, but also lack of awareness and action let these problems continue.
Many people think that human trafficking and slavery is old stories; however, it still exists today and not many people realize it. Not only it still exist today, but “the number of slavery is double the amount of people taken from Africa during the entire trans-Atlantic slave trade, 27 million people” according to Lisa Kristine from TEDTalk (Kristine). They work in harsh condition without any pay or serve as sex slaves, and many of them lose their life. How can this many people become trafficked in this world? Kevin Bales, the co-founder of Free the Slaves, said that traffickers target poor countries

Carrier and the author, witnessed a group of girls with a jeans and a t-shirt on a plane in the middle of the winter. She thought it was odd, but she did not do anything about it. Although there are many people being trafficked today in different places, people do not realize it because of their lack of awareness about this problem. They do not know that it still exists today and happening in their country. Other world problem are impossible to fix due to the amount of the money required, but human trafficking can be fixed. Kevin Bales said, “A boy in Ghana rescued from fishing slavery, about 400 dollars...And that means, when you multiply it up, the estimated cost of not just freedom but sustainable freedom for the entire 27 million people on the planet in slavery is something like 10.8 billion dollars -- what Americans spend on potato chips and pretzels...Intel's fourth quarter earnings: 10.8 billion” (Bales). Since it is possible to provide financial support to end and help human trafficking, people have to work to solve this immoral problem. According to Bales, the money required to provide freedom for enslaved people are small partial of what Americans use. Kevin Bales said that we have financial and
Many people know the basics of what human trafficking is but what they don’t know is how often it occurs. People do not spend time thinking about how many people human trafficking affects or how to stop it. Human trafficking is an issue that is highly ignored. Many people believe that the selling of people into slavery is not a problem in America or not a big problem at all. The truth is that there are large amounts of human trafficking happening all over the world, even in the United States. People must be informed so society can begin to take action to stop the problem.
According to estimates, more than 700,000 people are trafficked every year for the purposes of sexual exploitation and forced labour. They are transported across borders and sold into modern-day slavery. Over the past decade, trafficking in human beings has reached epidemic proportions. No country is immune. Clawson (2009) discusses how the search for
You turn on the news and see another story about trafficking in a third world country. You’re not surprised. One day, you see a story about trafficking in the United States. You’re surprised. Human trafficking happens all around the world, yet it’s a taboo subject. Over 20 million people are trafficked around the world. They’re usually forced into labor or prostitution. There are government efforts towards combating this problem. Despite these efforts, the government is not doing enough because in preventing and regulating it.
According to the U.S. State Department, every year 800,000 people are trafficked across international borders. Within these 800,000, women make up 80%, while minors make up 50% (Deshpande et al., 2013). Many people who fall victim to trafficking come from poor nations, unstable political areas, or are homeless. In poor nations such as Africa, diseases such as AIDS have caused many children to lose their parents making them more susceptible to slavery. Slavery offers an opportunity to eat or help to support their families. (Gresens,
There is estimated almost twenty-one million trafficked humans throughout the world. Sixty-eight percent of the trafficked humans are held captive and forced to work. In North and South America, there is more women trafficked than men, human trafficking is one the most traumatizing things in the world, people in this world are more worried about money, then being humane.
Although slavery was abolished in 1865, the practice of it is still very alive today. Human trafficking, a form of modern slavery, is the buying and selling of people, whether it 's for forced labor or commercial sex. Every year, thousands of adults and children, especially girls, are forced into the endless trafficking ring. “The International Labour Organization estimates that there are 20.9 million victims of human trafficking globally” (“The Facts”). The human trafficking industry is a worldwide network that is worth an estimated 150 billion dollars (“The Facts”). Millions of stories about victims experiences can be found and read. Many of these victims are sucked into the world of human trafficking because they are immigrants trying to escape to the U.S. and have debts to pay off once they get there. Trafficking happens everywhere, from big city shopping centers, to small town massage parlors. People are being captured, sold and transported across the world via various forms of transportation at all times. With updated technology, it becomes easier and easier to buy and sell these “slaves” and with this, the chances of being caught and punished is almost nothing. Many people think slavery is dead; however, human trafficking is still alive and it needs to be stopped because many people are being forced into involuntary sex and labor.
“Infographic: A Global Look at Human Trafficking” states that an estimated 21 million people are trafficked globally. This generates over $32 billion in profits internationally (“Infographic: A Global Look at Human Trafficking,” 2017). So, if this is such a high paying crime, why do we not hear about it more often? This is because the connection between human trafficking and slavery can be difficult to distinguish for an uninformed person. However, “Slavery in the Fields” relates a familiar topic, slavery, to the unfamiliar human trafficking topic, to prove that human trafficking and slavery are, in fact, the same.
In today’s world, people believe that all enslavement or forced labor of any kind has quietly deceased over the years, that all types of enslavement are behind modern societies and totally in the past, yet it has been exactly the opposite. An international office stated, “ Only one out of 100 victims of trafficking is ever rescued. This means around only 24,000 out of the 2.4 million people enduring human trafficking will be spared,” (“Combating Human Trafficking”). Human trafficking is still a very big problem across the world, even in the United States. Human trafficking has only increased over the past two decades. It is also not likely that a person being trafficked is only enduring this for a few months and then is set free; people are victims for multiple years, possibly even decades. Human trafficking is still a serious threat to innocent lives across the planet because rates are increasing, people are stuck in that vicious cycle for years, and it is damaging millions of people everyday.
Slavery is a practice many believe to have been left behind in the 19th century with morale beliefs leaving behind this. However few don’t know that to this day, in the 21st century we still have slavery and the trading of humans as though they are property. This is Human Trafficking, and it is not a small issue, it is everywhere, and it holds its influence over our society globally. With a large number of people being trafficked, the United States alone having a 244,000 to 325,000 victims exported and imported for trafficking and to be sold. Worldwide this number is unfortunately far higher but looking alone at the United States can give an idea of how bad it must be worldwide and especially in 2nd to 3rd world countries where the governments
Every year approximately 800,000 people are trafficked across international borders, and yet no one really knows how many people are affected by trafficking. Mostly because it is a severly covert and very underground issue. Being the second largest crime in the world oday secind only to drug trafficking. Usually when people are trafficked, they become forced to wor and sometimes sell their bodies enduring countess hours of mental physical and sexual abuse with no food or pay to keep them going.
Society relates slavery to the civil war and most would argue that slavery ended in 1865. With this standpoint, we often brush off or neglect to further investigate slavery in its most modern forms. Over the course of history, there are hardly any situations where a social problem was solved. Starvation still exists, as does poverty, racism, war, segregation, injustice within government systems, and yes, even slavery. Human trafficking is modern day slavery and it exists everywhere with two different categories: sex exploitation and labor exploitation. Human trafficking is not new, but what recently developed is the volume of trafficking taking place and how little we know about it. How can a problem, so monstrous and so widespread, continue with most societies being unaware of its existence? The 1800’s, and even years’ prior, were a period of unfathomable abuse towards people considered less than. The 21st century is also a period of unfathomable abuse towards people considered commodities. Now the common place relation between slavery and the civil war must be over, because the monster of modern day slavery has awoken.
Although slavery may have legally ended in 1865 with the end of the Civil War, it continues to be a problem worldwide today. “The UN International Labor Organization (ILO) calculates the minimum number of people in forced labor at 12.3 million, while research by Free the Slaves, a non-governmental organization (NGO) based in the United Sates, puts the number at 27 million.” Even so, there are many similarities between the Trans-Atlantic slave trade and human trafficking today.
She’s the girl who’s running away from her abusive past, the one who is impoverished and looking for a way to make ends meet, or perhaps, she’s the girl who naively fell in love with the wrong man. Regardless of the reasons, there are nearly 30 million victims of human trafficking globally. There are more slaves now than ever before. Trafficking of persons is not a subject that should be ignored or taken lightly. In order to fully understand the enormity of this crisis, we will examine the root causes, facts, and the impact of human trafficking throughout the world.
Nobody knows the true numbers, but estimates that 2.5 million children, men, and womens are trafficked within their home countries. Modern slavery is an international crime involving a lot of countries. The traffickers and the organized crime groups use whatever that I son their disposal to deceive and force the persons to a life with abuse, servitude and inhumane treatment. The potential victims refered to the National Referral Mechanisms in 2014 were reported from 112 countries of origin .
Although there are more slaves today than ever before, these kinds of practice’s are not something new to the world. In the past, slavery was accepted as a part of one’s everyday life. Decades ago, people were mainly used as domestic servants or agricultural laborers. Today, jobs can be anywhere from making bricks to forced prostitution. Traffic, according to Merrian-Webster, is a verb that means to trade or barter. While trade in humans does not exactly mean movement, international definitions of human trafficking are evolving to help people understand this. In the world today, there are at least twenty-seven million slaves (Kuhl, 7). The world has a common assumption today that slavery is dead. However, the prevalence of human trafficking
