While driving up the street, Louise chided herself for not serving on Mayor Eastwood’s Election Committee. That would have been my perfect opportunity to influence Betty and stupid me. I missed it. Oh well, as President of the Women’s Club, I can persuade her to help me with my performing art center, she thought. Louise mind made up that she would never be friends with Betty. Still, once the election was over, she needed Betty’s help to fund her project and changed her mind pretending she wanted to be Betty’s friend. She made it a point to read every article published in the local papers about Betty and her influential friends, including the governor’s wife. Would you like my personal shopper’s telephone number?” Louise stopped, turned around and smiled. “Well, aren’t we special to be in the same room with her?” Becky asked. Louise heard laughter, but ignored them and went to the head table where the mayor’s wife and several board members had finished lunch and were visiting. When they finished lunch, the servers cleared the tables except for drinks. Louise stood up, straightened her clothes, and ran her fingers through her hair before she stepped to the podium. “Good morning, ladies. I am excited to introduce our speaker today. She is our new mayor’s wife, Betty. I am sure we are going to enjoy working with her on special projects. It is my pleasure to introduce the First Lady of Howardsville, Betty Eastwood.
