USS Midway Museum
On September 24, 2016 I had the privilege of visiting the USS Midway Historical Museum. My friend Michelle, who is also a CBU student, accompanied me while we explored this fantastic site. I was recommended to tour the USS Midway by my German foreign exchange student who was able to visit the attraction a couple weeks earlier. Niels emphasized how much he enjoyed his visit and explained that it was a shame that I had not been there earlier, due to the fact that I live so close to San Diego. It was Niel’s advice, paired with my prior interest in the history of this battleship that inspired me to finally see it for myself.
Michelle and I arrived on a beautiful San Diego day at North Harbor Drive near the Coronado Broadway Pier. We parked somewhat far away because it was a busy day on the harbor. Walking towards the ship, we witnessed street performers doing all sorts of entertaining things that created a fun atmosphere. Some were blowing up balloons for kids, while others were playing their instruments, filling the air with a sweet melody. Walking along this beautiful parkway, looking out at the blue waters crashing against the docks, I could not help but realize how blessed and grateful I am to be free in such a great nation.
The first attraction I saw was a huge granite monument just across the street from the Midway. It honored the second most decorated ship in WWII, known as the USS San Diego CL-53. This ship was a tiny cruiser that had tremendous
The most significant number of outdoor mural art in the United States is just minutes away from downtown San Diego, but if you’ve visited the city, you’ve probably driven over it without even knowing it. San Diego’s Chicano Park is hidden below the San Diego-Coronado Bridge. More than 70 vibrantly colored murals adorn the support pylons of the freeway overpass. The walls pay tribute to the history of the surrounding Mexican-American and immigrant community called Barrio Logan. In the 1960s, the community was further separated by the formation of the 5 Freeway and the high on-ramps of the San Diego-Coronado Bridge. City leaders didn’t include tenants in the preparation of these projects that destroyed more than 5,000 houses and local businesses.

For my pilgrimage, I chose to go to the Burke Museum to see the piece of art that inspired the Seahawks’ logo. On our way to the museum, we encountered some challenges. For instance, my pilgrimage group almost got in a car accident while exiting I-5. Additionally, it was very difficult to get to the Burke Museum on time, because we had underestimated the amount of traffic and the amount of time it would take to find parking. It is ridiculous how parking around the Burke Museum costs $15 and entering the Burke Museum, as a student, costs $7.50. I was disappointed at the total cost of entering the Burke Museum. Often, museums are the best place to learn and it frustrates me that not everyone will have the opportunity to appreciate history. Through the increased cost of gaining knowledge, society has made learning selective and optional.
Returning to our nation’s capital bring about feelings of nostalgia. People were everywhere moving to and fro. Cars were zipping throughout the city’s streets while I sit back observing D. C.’s daily activity. The charter bus continued driving forward making left and right turns when necessary until we reached our destination, 1000 Jefferson Dr., better known as the Smithsonian Institution Building (the Castel). The intimating building stood tall. It looked out of place. As if it belonged in the medieval era and not our own. Nevertheless, I exited the bus, stretched my limbs, and proceeded into the Castel awaiting to see what was inside.
One could image what it would be like to with Saburo Ienaga and John W. Dower on creating a collaborative museum exhibit on the Pacific War. There would be several controversies as for what to incorporate in the museum and how the museum would portray the allied and axis powers. This essay will go into specific details of the United States and Japan's perspectives of the war. Given these perspectives it will allow for an appropriate main theme for the museum's exhibit.

Washington, D. C. is not only one of the most popular tourists destinations in the United States, but because it is the capital of the United States, there is an enormous amount of history associated with the city. In fact, you could never see all of the great sites in one visit, but if you only visit this city once, there are three sites that you must see on your trip. The following is a brief description of these sites.
From the outcome of the attacks that occurred on the World Trade Center on 9/11 emerged a ship containing seven and a half tons of steel recovered from the World Trade Center’s twin towers. Senior Enlisted Leaders should ensure they educate others why heritage comes from knowing history, which is important because it helps to create pride within the service. This essay presents the NEW YORK ship namesakes and their significance to the heritage of the U.S. Navy.
My observation paper will be about the time I went to Washington, D.C. with my friends. In this trip I saw a lot of important monuments and museums. This was the best vacation of my life because, I meet a lot of people from different states. Nevertheless, this assignment I am going to talk about two places, the Natural History Museum, and the Torpedo Factory.
The best way to describe this aquarium is the aquarium tunnel at the Henry Doorly Zoo where you walk through it and all of the aquatic animals swim over you. Except this place had 4 or 5 of theses tunnels along with many other exhibits. My favorite part was the two manatees. One was in a really playful mood. We were also there a feeding time, so that was really neat. There were also 5 pretty good sized nurse sharks and a few huge sting rays. It was amazing to be up and close with everything. There was a small display of penguins and other of jellyfish. Penguins are one of my favourite animals. After the aquarium, we ate on at a bar on the harbor at a place called The Pontoon Bar. I had a hamburger, and I must say it wasn't anything compared to the burgers I am used to. While we were there, there was also rowing races going on and farther down the harbor from the Pontoon, were “Romance Boats”. They were just tiny little row boats just big enough for
At the Marine Memorial we got to see the marines play their instruments and do there gun tricks. At the Roosevelt Memorial they have a small waterfall with Eleanor standing next to their dog Fala and it was AWESOME!!!
With an enduring history of entertainment and a unique melting pot of cultures, downtown Los Angeles has become an international hub for artists, musicians and creators of all kinds. In 1894, the first Fiesta de las Flores brought multicultural crowds together for an entire week of parades with floral carriages, live performances and carnivals. However, the opulent ballroom galas and
For years, I have wanted to visit the Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum. My youngest son had been there and was immensely touched by this. Therefore, I determined this assignment would be the perfect opportunity for me to visit and in turn write about it.
Bishoff and Allen (2004) state that “most cultural heritage institutions are mission driven; their primary purpose is to support and promote the public good.” Just as The National Maritime Museum mission statement is “to illustrate for everyone the importance of sea, ships, time and stars and their relationship with people”. Swan (2012), explained in her presentation that “this is the largest maritime museum in the world which attracted 2.45 million visitors in 2010 /2011 and 709.000 visitors just at the National Maritime Museum alone”.
