When working within any organization, it is important to make each person feel as if they are wanted and that they are needed. How can this be done? Motivation! To do this, team leaders and mangers need to motivate everyone in a positive manner to do their best and to always attempt to find new ways to create aa positive atmosphere in the workplace. In the article Organizational Communication: Communication and Motivation in the Workplace, it states, “The importance role of motivation to encourage employee morale in completing the work is very needed.” (Ramadanty, Martinus, 2016).
Work motivation is a condition and energy that drives self-directed or directed employees to achieve organizational goals of the company (Ramadanty, Martinus, 2016). I have learned from personal experience, when motivation done correctly can build people up. Make them want to complete the work that is placed in from of them. It is a tool that is used, to build up not only the employee, but also the organization. The reason being is because if the employee is happy and working toward the company’s goals, then they are not only helping themselves grow and thrive, but they are also helping the organization grow and thrive.

All employees analyze their environment and strive to be recognized and rewarded for their hard work and dedication they put into the company, in a word they are seeking justice. Justice can be defined as a person receiving what they feel they are entitled to and if they do not receive what they deserve the situation may board on injustice. Unfortunately in today’s society justice and appreciation are not given out to all those deserving (Pinder, 1998). A major problem to address is how to keep the motivation level high in a company when the employees do not feel appreciated.
Motivation is: “the psychological process that gives behaviour purpose and direction (Kreitner, 1995); a predisposition to behave in a purposive manner to achieve specific, unmet needs (Buford, Bedeian, & Lindner, 1995); an internal drive to satisfy an unsatisfied need (Higgins, 1994); and the will to achieve” (Bedeian, 1993). Due to the difference in the definitions for motivation, I will use the definition – Motivation is the inner drive that allows individuals to achieve company and personal goals.

Contentment and satisfaction of employees is extremely important as jobs are becoming more specified, selecting and training another set of workers is a long, expensive process. In a study completed by Forbes, who polled over 2,000 professionals found that 53% of workers are more likely to stay with a company for a longer period of time solely based off of them receiving more appreciation from their boss/manager. That same study also found that 81% of workers are more motivated at work when their boss shows appreciation or thanks. Human resources has a huge part to play in this because of their role in the development, maintenance, and retention of employees. The HR management must make sure that bosses and managers with workers under their supervision feel appreciated and heard. This will lead to the employees working harder and/or better, making them more proud and happy, while benefiting the business by having a more efficient worker.
This topic was chosen as my research because I believe a company is nothing without its’ employees. In choosing this topic, it better helps me to understand motivation and how it is used to push employees, helping in the success in the business.
Motivation is an important factor in one’s life. You learn what motivates you at a very young age. Although you may not know the word or understand what it means, you still accomplish a goal to receive a reward or know not to do something that will get you in trouble. Why do you do the things you do? Why do you get excited when presented with a positive reward or upset when presented with a negative reward? It’s all about you and what you desire most or want to avoid; and it differs in each individual. When a young teenager is told to clean his room and then he can go to the movies, this is a positive reinforcement or motivator to get the parent’s desired outcome. When you apply the motivation theories in the workplace, the main goal is to have the employee perform their duties to achieve the company’s desired outcome. There are several motivational theories offered as templates for organizations to utilize the way they see fit. The ultimate outcome of these theories is that the employee with the right motivator, whether it’s positive or negative reinforcement, will encourage the employee to perform at their best. The leadership-follower aspect is crucial in motivating correctly in the workplace.
Once I would like to start off explaining what motivation in the workplace. Motivation is an employee 's intrinsic enthusiasm about and drive to accomplish activities related to work. The five job related factors that can hinder motivation in the workplace are (1) Inadequate Job Skills, (2) Opportunity for Advancement, (3) Overwork, (4) Respect from Co-worker, and (5) Job security.
