It is basically observed that Indian wildlife laws are not that effective but it is totally the opposite of what has been perceived. Rather India has much more strong and stringent laws that prevails to wildlife conservation but it is totally imperative that conservationists aware themselves with these laws so that it would be more effective to enforce these in the country. It is also important that people are aware about these laws so that they should know that who controls the land or activity as to they are able to engage with the correct authorities and agencies.
The Indian Government has made legislations related to wildlife conservation and protection. Those are:
1) The Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 last amended in 2006:
This act is the one major legal statue that controls activities such as it prohibits hunting, securing the wildlife habitat, formation of protected areas, control of trade of products generated from wildlife, establishment and regulation of zoos.
It also defines different types of protected areas that are:
a) National Parks
b) Wildlife Sanctuaries
c) Tiger Reserves
d) Conservation Reserves
e) Community Reserves
National parks and tiger reserves are dealt with more stringent laws and there is no intervention from any commercial or public activities in these area. The grazing and collection of forest wood is only allowed on the discretion of the Chief Wildlife Warden and there needs to be a bona fide for that activity that it is the need of themselves
