1. Effective Communication: performance assessments were a good demonstration of how I enhanced the effectiveness of my written communication skills. When I was taking the Care of the Older Adult course, I demonstrated the importance of assessing and planning for the communication needs of the older adults. It was in the Health and Wellness Through Nutritional Science course that I was enlightened about the role of effective communication in mitigating the effects of nutritional ignorance and misunderstandings, which were identified as the root of the health most problems. The health assessment video task demonstrates the effectiveness of my oral and written communication and the use of electronic technology to communicate. Also, the Information Management and the Application of Technology course demonstrated how I can use electronic technology to achieve effective communication.
2. Clinical Reasoning: courses such as Care of the Older Adult, Evidence Based Practice and Applied Nursing Research, Health Assessment, Professional Roles and Values, Leadership and Professional Image, Organizational Systems and Quality Leadership, and Community Health and Population-Focused Nursing, demonstrated how I have enhanced my clinical reasoning skills, and now I am well equipped with analytical tools that enables me to advocate for safe nursing care that is based on quality improvement, evidence based practices, and ethical principles.
3. Accountability: It was in the Professional Roles
The most difficult aspect of testifying is having stage fright. Some officers and or people are not comfortable with speaking out loud and clear for all to hear in a public courtroom setting. Not only must the person testifying have to go through a direct examination but also a cross examination where it is intended to destroy the person's credibility.
It is important for both sides to communicate effectively so that it can make sure that information will be shared in a clear way to help achieve the best possible outcomes. To communicate effectively, people have to discuss all options and ensure everyone’s opinion is considered, so that it shows respect and everyone’s opinion counts.
The clinical reasoning process is dependent and is influenced by a person’s attitude, philosophical approach and preconceptions (Hawkins, Paul, & Elder, 2010). APN nurses with effective clinical reasoning skills have a positive impact on patient outcomes. One has to understand that clinical reasoning is challenging and can be very complex and requires a different approach in nursing assessment and diagnostics. When conducting supportive assessments, APN uses clinical reasoning to consider the patient situation, collect information such as medications, vital signs, culture, care context and patient’s pathophysiology; identify the problem issue, plan and evaluate. “It is the ability of the APN to integrate and apply different types of knowledge,
Writing is a part of our everyday lives and will be part of your future career. How will you be using writing and the skills learned in this course within your chosen field and profession? People don’t believe that writing is part of their everyday life, as the same thought has been applied to mathematics. When taking a writing course, it's more evident that writing is an essential part of life. I was one that never really thought of writing as a skill I need for my career. I’ve been learning the importance of writing in my English class. I’ve found it not to be so easy for me as I struggled with it growing up. But I feel that I’m applying myself right now to learn as much as I can to be able to utilize this skill in my profession.
Writing to me has changed over the years as I experience more as I grow up. From thinking that writing is dull to believing writing is expressive and vibrant. From the learning toddler to the naive twelve year-old to the seventeen year-old scholar. I have many great and horrible experiences in writing which led to the writer I am today.
Since the beginning of time, I’ve always hated anything that had to do with writing or reading. Writing to me was always a chore, something that I had to do or else I would fail my classes. To add on, writing wasn’t exactly my forte, I was honestly horrendous at writing. You could give me a whole week to do a book report and I still wouldn’t be able to get it right on my 5th try. Even today, I still despise writing, the thought of not knowing what to write always lingered alongside me. I would often find myself sitting alone in my small room, listening to music and not knowing what to write; I would begin typing out a few sentences, then ultimately backspacing every word because it may not be “ good enough”. This whole typing and
Personally, I feel I am a strong writer who is creative and has a strong understanding of the elements of writing. I enjoy writing because it is a way for me to creatively express my thoughts and emotions. Writing is both a stress reliever and a passion for me.
Growing up, I thought of writing as discomforting and boring because sometimes a sentence would take too long to write and I would fear that my handwriting would be more terrible than others. However, as the years passed by and I progressed, I started to grow a settling interest for 3rd person writing. Thanks to my love for reading stories, I wanted to create my own set of stories and use my imagination to put it down in words. Although there was more to this in the real world than writing stories, this is what gained my interest in writing and the one thing that made me feel comfortable while writing.
Communication is essential to everyday life. Everyone is performing some form of communication daily whether it be through face to face interaction, online, video conference, non-verbal cues, or writing. According to the National Communication Association, communication is defined as “…how people use messages to generate meanings within and across various contexts, cultures, channels, and media. The [communication] discipline promotes the effective and ethical practice of human communication.” The definition of communication has evolved over time with the rise of digital platforms, thus, introducing a new way of communication called “digital communication.” Though this evolution may seem like a recent development, research conducted back in the 1940s has greatly influenced the digital era and communication strategies today.
This paper with be providing information on my own personal communication skills. A communications skill assessment was taken and analyzed. There will be a description of any communication gaps that I may have and any additional training in specific areas of communication that I many need. I will also describe how I can improve the communication skills that I possess in order to prepare me for any future advancement in my profession.
Competency refers to a collection of commitments, abilities, skills, and knowledge that enable an individual or organization to act effectively in a particular situation or job. In most instances, competency outlines the adequacy of skills and knowledge that enable an individual to operate effectively in armed situations. Competency and clinical reasoning mean a lot for my specific area of advanced practice nursing because all nurses need clinical judgment to make relevant and informed decisions while taking care of patients. Such decisions have immense impacts on the actions of the healthcare professionals as well as the delivery of quality healthcare to patients. I can use different approaches and strategies to demonstrate
In the end, writing has many purposes. It can be used from information to entertainment. The only thing that matters is the person holding the pen or sitting behind the computer.
Language is an essential thing in someone’s daily life. Whether it is written or spoken it is our main way of communication with one another because of this someone is taught how to write and speak properly. Speaking is easier than writing because it is something someone has been doing since they were child. This is different for writing. A person is taught how to write when he or she goes to school and improves over time. I started writing papers after I came to the United States in 2014. I have improved on my writing skills since then. English 101 has helped me to write as a college level student. I am now able to organize essays and be able to write them in well structured way.
Today, technology is continuously advancing. Computers, cell phones, and tablets are becoming lighter, faster, and more accessible. As we now have access to many more communicative devices, our rate of communication with others has greatly increased. But, the ways of conversing are changing. In the past, conversation was the exchange of ideas, sentiments, observations, and findings through face-to-face interactions. Now, conversation happens through texts, emails, and even social media. As the method of conversation has changed, has the way in which we engage others remained the same? As our exposure to writing with technology advances, it is important to fully comprehend the ways in which we enter writing through a conversational lense rather than just an individual activity.
Business is relying more and more on communication to the degree that bad writing could mean bad business, a statement consolidated by the fact that the U.S. states spend $221 million annually on writing instruction for their state employees. Moreover, a cable TV in Canada lost nearly $1 million because of a confusing comma on one of their writing communications. That indicates how important written communication became for businesses and how it can help building goodwill by the audience (Newman & Ober, 2013).
