In 2009, arguably one of the best Super Bowl was played in Tampa, Florida. This game featured the AFC champions Steelers and the NFC champions Cardinals, in which the Steelers prevailed 27-23. As any football fan could tell you the score of this game was not a low one at all. For the cardinals to put up 23 against the Steelers number one defense was shocking. Even more stunning, was to see the Steelers offense generate enough offense to put up 27 point. The Steelers offensive game had been struggling throughout the season, but their hard hitting, alert defense made up for it. Yet, this game is no joke a tam cannot win if any part of their game is slacking. Knowing this the Steelers came out ready to play. This game wasn’t just a high scoring …show more content…
Another highlight play was made later on that game. Wide receiver #11 Larry Fitzgerald leaped over a Pittsburgh defender and caught the ball from in front of him. For Fitzgerald to get that high in the air and to still be able to move his body in order to take the ball out of the defenders hands, proves just how athletic #11 really is. The effort by Larry Fitzgerald was just out of this world, but it had to be in order catch the ball that was under thrown by Quarterback Kurt Warner. Hands own that was an incredible play and would have been the play of the game, if it weren’t for the Santonio Holmes catch. The Quarterback #7 Ben Roethlisberger called for the snap and thus begins one of the best plays of Super Bowl history. Holmes begins his route running down the field, Roethlisberger is looking at him the whole way down the field. Two defenders in front of Santonio Holmes did not stop Big Ben from throwing the ball to the back of the end zone for only his receiver to catch. Ben trusted his arm strengthen and accuracy but most of all he trusted his receiver
The time spent on the sidelines never held Staubach’s game back, as Landry’s decision to ride on the golden arm of his playmaking quarterback proved to be the right call. Staubach’s excellence came to fruition in the final 2 minutes when he hooked up with Billy Parks on a 20 yard score to cut the 49ers’ lead to 28-23 with just over a minute left. The Cowboys were successful on their onside kick, giving Staubach one last chance to march the Cowboys downfield and throw the game-winning 10 yard TD pass to Ron Sellers, stunning the 49er faithful at Candlestick Park in a 30-28 monumental
For those who watched the game live, the score does not reflect the intensity of the game. Nearing down to the wire with Brady on a drive in the last two minutes, some predicted had the Patriots were going to win the game. That was not the case as several mishaps caused time to expire after a desperation Hail Mary attempt.
It was so close we could almost taste it. The undefeated season, the holy grail of the NFL, seemed to be a sure thing. Here the Patriots were in Super Bowl 42. They had the chance to achieve a 19-0 season. Something no team had ever done before. I stood in my living room. Surrounded by friends and family watching the ongoing battle. I could feel the joy radiating from those around me. Victory was near. The Giants stood in their territory just a few downs from their ultimate demise. The Patriots defense had been stout the entire game, and so surely they would be able to hold the Giants now, when they needed to the most. Eli Manning took the snap, and the Patriots defense pounced. They had him by the jersey, all they needed was to finish the
Football is America’s past and present-time, however, due to the findings of new research on chronic traumatic encephalopathy, the NFL must find ways to increase player safety. C.T.E. is a brain disorder caused by long-term, repetitive head trauma that is “now associated with such things as dementia, depression, memory loss, and lack of impulse control.” For decades the long-term affects of contact sports remained unknown and not until retired players began to express the problem has awareness for the issue increased. The NFL has made dramatic changes to the requirements for equipment — such as helmets — and to their rules to increase safety, however, are these changes decreasing the sport’s hidden affects on players mental health? Countless studies have been conducted over this issue and the affects of sub-concussive contact are illustrated in several of these research studies. Although the NFL changes rules and equipment requirements in an attempt to increase the safety of their players, it remains difficult to determine whether these changes will decrease the long-term affects of football as they appear in retired players and research on sub-concussive contact.
There is nothing like hearing a big hit and the crowd going wild. Football has been growing dramatically in popularity since about 2012. There are many things that attract people to football. There are many different stages of football. Football also makes a lot of money for a variety of reasons. Although football is one of the biggest causes for injuries it still is the number one favorite sport in America.
Pittsburgh beat Cleveland the following week in the home opener, yet continued to stumble by going on to loose their next three games. Suddenly Steeler opponents were giving back what they had been getting for two years. A team built on defense and intimidation was now being bullied by teams they had ground to dust just one year before. Pittsburg’s backslide was punctuated in week five during a rematch with the Browns. The lasting memory of Cleveland’s Joe “Turkey” Jones slamming Terry Bradshaw head first into the turf of Municipal Stadium epitomized the shocking debut of the 76 Steelers. A proud team had hit rock bottom. Pittsburgh’s record was now 1 and 4. With Bradshaw injured, the Steelers would have to limp along with an unknown rookie quarterback named Mike Kruczek. With the Division leading Cincinnati Bengals coming to town the following week, the prospect of a third straight Super Bowl was nonexistent.
Everyone has a specific skill set that they are good at. Some people are good with numbers, others have a gift for writing. The same is true in sports. The Buffalo Bills are very good at losing and disappointing their fans, while the Patriots are fantastic at bending the rules and winning Super Bowls. In baseball, each team is built around a specific group of players in order to create the best possible chance to win the World Series. Some of the greatest players have created seemingly unbreakable statistics. Joe DiMaggio had a hit in fifty-six consecutive games. Barry Bonds hit seven hundred and sixty-two home runs over his twenty-two-year career. Statistics like these only come about once in a generation. Teams are comprised of various talent. Some are like Miguel Cabrera. Cabrera always has a batting average over .300 with at least 25 home runs. These types of players are considered great hitters. Other’s, like Stephan Drew, get a hit less than 20% of the time they have an at bat. Players similar to Drew’s skill set have a job because they are very good at defense and their value on defense out ways their value on offense to their specific team. Baseball is sport rich with statistics. Almost anything one can come up with, has a statistic. In the last ten years alone, top executives, such as Billy Bean, have constructed teams based on advanced statistics and have been fairly successful, like the 2002 Oakland Athletics. Other teams, like the Houston Astros,
The National Football League (NFL) has been under scrutiny because the NFL had downplayed the effects of head trauma and its links to CTE. Only in recent years has the NFL gave into public demand to do something about the concussion issue. However, the NFL could still do more to help its players. The article by Rodney Smith explores the benefits and drawbacks of litigation, administrative action, legislative action, and associational action by the NFL in dealing with these issues.
In a season that has already seen season-ending injuries of several NFL superstars, Sunday’s games on October 29th of 2017 brought forth its most worst yet, both physically and in its implications. In the third quarter of a game between the New Orleans Saints and the Chicago Bears, Mitchell Trubisky threw a beautiful pass into the endzone, received midair by Chicago’s tight end Zach Miller. As he fell to the ground alongside the defender, the goal line official’s arms raised, signaling a touchdown. However, upon the impact with the ground, Miller’s leg bent in the wrong direction—an injury that would be later diagnosed as a knee dislocation. While being initially checked for injury and assisted
Clint Murchison, Jr. and Bedford Wynne were awarded a National Football League (NFL) expansion franchise on January 28, 1960, located in Dallas, TX. At the annual meeting, they purchased the team for $600,000 (Bohls 1). They were given the status of a “swing team” meaning that they would play every other team in the league their first season of play. They were displaced in the Western Division Standings. Murchison’s and Wynne’s next moved was to high their front office personnel which were: Tex Schramm (General Manager), Gil Brandt (Director of Player Personnel), and Tom Landry as Head Coach. In the beginning there were called the Dallas Steers, then after a couple of weeks the name was changed and there were called the Dallas Rangers.

It was a good game despite us losing 21-26 due to a arguable no-call catch. The play was a good one, a quick fade to Dez Bryant to the outside, child’s play for him. He caught it, but apparently didn’t maintain possession of the ball long enough. The play was being reviewed and unfortunately was overturned losing us the game. Just like that the game was over, our historical season in which we did the incredible was over.
The Eagles defeated the New England Patriots in super bowl 52. It was very hard for Nick Foles to beat Tom Brady but he came out with the win that would be under his belt for years. At the end of the game the score was 41-33. They were so happy to come with the win in the ending because they were up against an NFL legend. With that win they probably become the best team next year. The Eagles have a young team but they are very talented to be a young team. They also have treats on their team they have two of the best RB’s in the NFL. They have two great QB’s and the best defense in the NFL. Tom Brady tried his best to win it it’s just
