I am bringing the following complaint against Diane Roznowski because of her violation of our chapter’s Phi Alpha Delta bylaws in chapter II, section I and chapter I, section v (specifically regarding American University Social Media Policy Guidelines Article II, Section II). Today after chapter, I asked the graduating seniors in the room we were holding chapter to leave the room so I could discuss senior send-off. I made an announcement stating that I would be in charge of organizing the senior send-off for this semester. As a result, I opened up the floor to questions and suggestions. Melina Hernandez suggested making personal baskets or gifts for seniors in their specific families within the chapter so that there would be a larger sense of families within our chapter. Melina also expressed that she was more than willing to collaborate with me in that aspect of senior send-off, which I happily agreed to. Later on that evening, Diane added me to a group chat on Facebook and suggested we get something for Kate, who is a graduating member of our chapter within the Warren family. She also added Jackie Pelella to the chat, who is no longer a part of the Warren family since she was the Associate of a Partner (Denise Andrade) who disaffiliated from Phi Alpha Delta and American University for personal reasons. As a result, Jackie was officially adopted into the Kennedy family. When she made this clear in the group chat, she also mentioned that she would be contributing to the

One of the most highly debated issues in the business world is the use of social media profiles as a determining factor in the hiring process. Some people feel that using someone’s social media profile is an invasion of privacy because it uses something from their personal life to determine their professional success. As long as the company follows some basic guidelines I believe there is nothing wrong with them looking into the profiles of their potential employees. It is important to point out that while looking at many of the different ethical ideologies, this practice does not violate the ethical conducts. Teleologists would agree that looking into someones profile will ensure that you are hiring someone who will conduct themselves in a proper manner. Therefore, the means of looking into their personal lives justifies the ends in which you hire a professional with good character. Deontologists would likely agree that as long as the company does not try to find loop holes to see into protected accounts that they are respecting the rights of the individual and therefore are not being unethical. I believe that it is reasonable for a company to use social media profiles as a basis for hiring because everything posted on the internet is public domain, it allows them to get an understanding of who the potential client is, and you want to ensure that you are hiring someone who fits in to your company.

Any private citizen who requests government information as specified under the FOIA, put their privacy at risk. Lamdan, and Solove as cited, warn that such availability places private citizens in grave danger of being prey to government scrutiny. She urges the federal government to “adopt librarian ethics via federal statue…” (p. 132).
