I would like to enroll in the Intensive English course because it will allow me to gain better experience for college. From what I’ve heard, AP courses have teachers that enjoy the subjects they teach, and students that are eager to learn. I feel that taking this class will improve my writing and understanding of the english writings overall, as well as prepare me for more difficult courses I will choose to take in the future. I have already read “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian” and “The Kite Runner” and enjoyed them. I have no issues writing what is required for the class, and want to challenge myself. The extra points from AP courses to my GPA is an added bonus. My hopes are to have a high school transcript that is looked
In Honors English (3rd and 5th), ask students to turn in yesterday’s assignment. They have a test on “A Problem” today, so they should log into their pearson accounts online and take the test. I will check their scores and put them in Skyward asap. Once their test is finished please have them read pages 78-79 in the literature book. Their assignment is to read “Like the Sun” (pgs 80-84) and “The Open Window” (pgs 85-88). They should be looking for instances of paradoxes and irony during each reading. They need to complete the critical thinking questions on pages 84 and 88.
In English 1102 students will learn many different techniques throughout the course to understand and compose an analysis on an array of topics. After the course is over it is up to the students to apply what they have learned to everyday life. Many students throughout this course have questioned why they have to learn this material and that it will not even help them in the real world, but they are wrong. Each and everyday people should look at the deeper meaning and analyze situations very carefully or else one may find themselves being deceived. Being able to analyze is a very important skill no matter what career choice you choose. In this course the material assigned also had many life lessons in them. A great example of a reading assignment
During the first semester of English 1301, I have learned so much that before I hadn’t comprehended. This class has teached me to write what is my passion and explain my thoughts thoroughly. The classes I took before were mostly teaching the arts of writing essays in which the not much was learned. This class made an exception for me to challenge myself and try to succeed in becoming a better writer. I feel as I have learned more in these 16 weeks than have in the last two years of highschool english.
My entire life, I have looked forward to math class; it has always made sense to me. Plugging numbers into an equation and solving for x always came easy to me. Outside of school, I enjoy reading. Easily, I could pick up a book and read the entire thing as time just flies by me. The books I don’t like to read are the ones that I am forced to read in a constricted amount of time. Before this year, I’ve never taken an honors English class; I was the smartest one in my CP class. I never challenged myself which is the reason I decided to take AP English. I didn’t put this on my schedule have my transcript look good, or to boost my GPA, I want to become a better writer. In 20 years, the skills I learn throughout this year will be more important
The audience screams encore! The crowd goes wild! The performance, located in the Chamber Theatre in Pittsburgh, was a great hit among all the people in attendance. This journey into the heart of Pittsburgh to see a collection of short stories by famous authors would be a fantastic opportunity and a great chance to learn about literature!
Advanced Placement classes were something that I have considered and that I continue to consider. A challenge and a college credit is why I would like to take this AP English course. In addition, I would like to take this AP class to ameliorate my weaknesses in grammar and vocabulary. I believe that this class could also benefit in my career, learning harder vocabulary so I can sound more intelligent when I speak. However, considering how nerve racking it is for me to be joining an AP class since the workload maybe overkill, I wish for this class to build up important writing skills.
The article “English Only” Laws divide and Demean by Warren Blumenfeld states the author’s view against enacting a law making English the official language of the federal government. Mr. Blumenfeld’s premise in "English Only" is that the law is unnecessary and divisive in the United States. He is seeking a call to action in his home state of Iowa against the “English -only” law because he believes that it will negatively impact the beliefs that our nation is founded upon, rather than celebrate and promote our uniqueness as a nation of people from different cultures seeking the freedom to be individuals. He is an opponent of this law since he believes it has the potential to create prejudice and discrimination toward our citizens because
In my second block Accelerated English class, I believe that I deserve at least a B based on my behavior, attendance, and participation. I would like to have faith in the idea that my behavior is pleasing and acceptable. For example, I have never gotten a referral both in English class and in school in general. Although I shout out sometimes, I try my best to not let this happen. I have to admit that my attendance isn't the finest, however I attempt to only miss school if I am sick, and if I am sick and/or absent, I make up my work as quick as I can. Finally, I conclude that my participation is superb. I always complete my work and I strive to do everything I can to secure an excellent grade in English. Therefore, based on my behavior, attendance, and participation in English class, I deserve at least a B.
I am here to go through some expectations regarding this AP course with you all as Mr. Spencer is away at a conference. The things I will go over are so that you understand what this class is about, specifically as it relates to the advanced placement aspect of it. As this is an AP English class it’s essential for you to have a basic understanding of how you are to structure content in an essay. This means I will explain what makes a strong thesis and how to back it up with a strong argument and rhetoric. All of this being said, I will also give you information on what exactly is generally expected of you in this classroom as a whole.
A question frequently heard among students, from elementary to college, is “when will I need to know this?”. No matter the class, there is always someone who believes the course does not pertain to them and is a waste of time and money. Myself, I remember thinking that very same thing of AP Calculus and later Statistics. As someone aspiring for a career in the health sciences, I assumed that a comprehensive education in the various math forms was superfluous. And though I love history, English, and art, I caught myself wondering if I would ever utilize such knowledge beyond that class. What I have realized, however, is that all knowledge gained by an individual can only work to their advantage. Furthermore, I believe that liberal arts courses
I believe that I deserve a solid A in English 250 because I have worked very hard in this course and learned many valuable information that will be useful later in my life. Especially this summer because I will be taking a speech class at a community college. I have grown in the learning aspect of this English course, but also in many other areas as well like speaking up in class which I don’t normally do in my other classes due to the number of students and I am just a shy person. Also in this course, I get to work with others in small groups and be a team player from participating in the group discussions and sharing my thoughts about a certain topic. I have been able to analyze many parts of grammar and resources that have urged me to further
The British infant and primary education system has advanced through time and is known to be very different to early education systems in parts of Europe. Comparisons of the effectiveness of this education system have taken place on more than one occasion by writers who are seeking to find answers to its flaws and successes. The writer uses past perfect and present continuous verb tenses when making her statements so that they validate her points to the audience. For example, “difference between the ways children are taught in Britain” (past perfect), “some children thrive on it. Many do not. In the
I would like to enroll in the AP English Language and Composition Course because I hope to stand out when applying to universities and get the most out of my high school experience. In addition, I anticipate to improve skills like reading and writing and acquire new critical thinking skills that will assist me throughout the rest of my high school and college education. Finally, I know that this class will require me to step outside my comfort zone but, will help me prepare for the classes I will be taking in college and improve my time management
Hello, I am Amber Rojcewicz, and I have elected to take an online English course so that it will fit in my schedule. In my past English classes, I have worked on citing properly, creating cohesive text, and using databases. Hopefully these skills will follow through into this new journey. I have allotted time to work on this class and that would be on Wednesdays and Thursdays because I have no classes on those days. I would say I am organized, and will do my best to keep up on work that is given to me. On the English- 11 Regents exam, I scored above a 75 I passed with an 85. I have been around computers and keyboards a lot in my life and can find my way around one well. I have access to Wi-Fi in a lot of places. I have it in my house and can also find access in public places. You spoke on
I’ve learned a lot of useful tips from this semester in ENG 201. English has never been my strong suit nor has it been my favorite class. However this college course has changed my point of view of the subject. Prior coming into college I viewed English as a useless class because I’ve already knew the basics: how to talk, read and write essays. Today I view English as an important class. It helped me in other courses that involved writing, such as World Civilization and Communications, because it allowed me to practice my skills. In my world civilization exams I had to write essays. This course helped me write an impactful essay. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that almost all of my exam scores were in the 90s, usually I do poorly in the
