On Thursday, April 7, 2016, I was able to attend an Interagency Team Meeting (ITM meeting) with Shaneen Brown, the case manager of Elwyn’s outpatient program. This ITM took place at 1:30pm and it lasted for about an hour. During this ITM meeting I was given the opportunity to take the lead and be in charge of the meeting. At this meeting we were able to meet the mother and father of the client. However, because this was just a meeting to review documents the client that is going to be receiving services was not present.
The client is a four-year-old African American little boy. Currently, he lives at home with his biological parents and his five-year-old brother. The client was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder when he was 2.5 years

I was not sure what to expect coming into this particular meeting because every family is different and you never know how they are going to react about having an intern present. I also felt that I wish I had been given more time to look over the documents and the clients file before having to review them with the parents. I enjoyed that the client’s mother and father came prepared with questions and information to provide us with. I also enjoyed how eager they were to get the meeting going as well as the services …show more content…
One of the goals for this client is to eliminate tantrum behaviors. The objective that goes along with this goal is that the client will learn coping skills to manage anger/frustration when he does not get his own way. His task for this goal is that he will use his coping skills 3-5 times a day. I feel that all of the values of professional social work are important whenever you are dealing with a client. However, depending on the situation at hand some can be more important than others. One value that I feel is extra important in this situation is the value of dignity and worth of the person. I feel that it is always important to emphasize the worth of an individual, but in this situation, it is also important for this client and the client’s family to be aware of their own worth and that they are not being

Social workers need to use certain skills to develop a relationship with their client. A client
The client also has a strong relationship with her children and is involved in their educational needs.
In the value of dignity and worth of a person, the social worker should treat each person in a caring matter; there is no stipulation on whether that client should be current or past. The value of integrity, the

Stephan, 35 male, married a young women who was died of cancer 1 year after bearing their second child. Stephan is now a single primary carer of these two children a girl aged 11 and a boy aged 9. He works full time at a high school to pay for one child’s schooling and the other child’s carer at home as well as medical needs e.g wheelchair. The youngest child has a severe type of autism which prevents him from attending school therefore needing a part-time carer at home. Different kinds of symptoms this child experiences may affect the child’s home life such as: Delay in learning how to speak or doesn’t talk at all, difficulty communicating needs or desires may affect the
Kelly, I think the briefings that carol had regularly with those working under her was the deciding factor which made her leadership much more successful than that of the other supervisors. Efficient briefings are not just essential to accomplish group objectives and successful fulfilment of tasks, additionally are reflective of the overall functionality of the group. Successful group briefings makes way for open discussion that draws upon every ones input, knowledge, and points of view to take care of difficulties and to support each other in accomplishing the group's overall goals.
As a social worker dealing with any of the above situations, I would suggest that it is not the duty of the social worker to take responsibility for the clients’ problems. The problem must be recognised by the client in order for the social worker to work in collaboration with him/her Coulshed & Orme (1998). However, since being placed at
Respect for the dignity and worth of the client is essential for the relationship to be successful (College of Nurses of Ontario, 2004). A health professional must have respect for a patient's culture and beliefs. Receiving respect will make the client feel important, cared for, and worthwhile (Balzer-Riley, 2004). Respect has a positive effect on the way in which the client complies with the therapist and the rehabilitation and healthcare that they receive (Balzer-Riley, 2004).
Gary is unique because of the tenure (average of 14 years) of the management team and first-hand experience working and managing various departments at the center. Some of the management team has worked in five different departments at the center which includes the current deputy directors and employability director. Having this type of experience provides a greater knowledge base to pull from as staff help applicants and students make their pathway selection. It has also strengthened interdepartmental communication and teamwork. Because of the effective relationships staff have formed, along with management staff experience in OA and CTS contracts, the center and the OA and CTS staff work well together and are viewed as integral to the
“It is all about cutting down some trees and using the fine pieces to build the tents that can help us get through the harsh winter. And unfortunately writing letters is indeed the only way to communicate with the family and friends.” Many friends at the current school now are always curious and then amazed by this simple but casual answer. What have I gone through that seems so unbelievable? It is a wilderness program in the middle of endless woods in central Virginia. Winter gets cold and nasty there and it seems that you need all your belongings just to survive that challenging environment. Besides the harsh outdoor environment, I am never and will not be mentally ready for all the corrections and judgments that are pointing directly to me.
At this point in establishing a relationship with your client you now know that as a professional you must be sensitive to your client’s culture and let them speak for themselves. It’s also known that we as humans are drawn to relationships and we learn and grow through them. We also know the importance of allowing a client to feel included in the relationship, and that they have social justice. There are many aspects of building an empowering relationship that play an important role. Without that strong relationship the client will not put their trust in you and they will not feel there is a secret attachment. The relationship needs to be profitable, because if they are coming to a social worker, there is a reason. There is some need whether it’s willing or mandated. They person is seeking some change in their lives. As stated before, knowing the micro, mezzo, and macro levels of someone’s lives and relationships are important. When this information is disclosed to a social
If we are honest all the social work ethics can relate to various relationships in our lives. Dignity and Worth of a person is my choice of Social Work ethic. I chose Dignity and Worth of a person simply because no matter the relationship be it professional, personal, and worker-client relationship we need to treat people with basic respect, and worth. To treat someone with respect, and to let them know they are worth it despite what society, or their circumstances may say. Humans have a natural craving to be treated as something of value, which is why some go beyond even to the point of losing their self-worth.
The first thing that needs to happen to pull a team meeting together is for the nurse taking care of this patient voice the need for a team meeting to the social worker of case manner for this patient. The social worker or the case manager would contact all the different departments and the family and organize a time for everyone to meet. An outside resource that would be good to bring to this meeting may be a palliative care nurse and a representative from a long-term care facility that takes vented patient to discuss these options with the family.
