Interning with the Fist Judicial District of Pennsylvania (FJD) has been a rewarding experience. I have been able to grow as an individual, personally, as well as professionally. I have improved my writing portfolio, by adding serious content and focusing on internal communications. Interning during the fall semester has been difficult at times; balancing an internship, full course load, and a job equals a lot of stress. Also, taking my capstone a semester early has added to a lot of pressure this semester. With all of my obligations, successfully managing my time has been extremely important. Now that it is the end of the semester, I am glad I took on many responsibilities this semester, because I was able to prove my hard work ethic to myself.
My supervisor Gabriel Roberts, and his assistant Amanda De Maria, were great at getting me acclimated to working with the FJD. With little previous knowledge about the FJD, these two have helped me become more knowledgeable about the communication field, as well as the legal field. When I accepted the internship opportunity I didn’t know exactly what I was getting myself into. Gabe and Amanda aided me in my adjustment into the judicial world by being supportive and referring me to resources to expand my knowledge.
In our small public relations office, we worked great as a team. Amanda and Gabe were wonderful at introducing me to office culture. City Hall’s office culture is different from many of the experiences I was used to.
This experience with the Shiawassee County Prosecutors Office has been so incredible. I have learned so much from this experience which has lead me to ask the Prosecutor if I can stay longer. I enjoy the way the people work together in the office, the new cases every day, and the lessons I learn both about life and the criminal justice field. I thought before this internship that I knew I wanted to be a prosecuting attorney, but I now know even more now that this job is for me and something I can see myself doing after graduation.
I specifically chose this internship experience because previously, I held internships at Flood Law, a defense law firm, and the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office and I figured this internship is a progression. I was definitely interested in exploring the different areas in law to figure out what it is that I wanted and did not want to do and this internship, by far has helped me do that. This internship experience has shaped my career ambitions, as I will further go into detail during the duration of this paper, by allowing me to be exposed to the different areas of law, which then made me decide on what I found to be interested in and areas I did not so much
The purpose of the proposed study is to explore how interns are influenced by the internship in regards to their career choice. The data will be collected from the three different field sites; Higbee and Associates, Legal Aid Society of Orange County and Public Defenders Office of Santa Ana with assessing total of 50-60 interns who will be participating in these three different field sites. Using the previous studies as a guideline I will use the combination of interviews and questionnaires to assess the attitudes of the interns regarding the before and after the internship. After assessing the interns the proposed study will conduct a follow-up study with the interns after six years to see the impact of the internship on the career
I have written formal bail reports from a handwritten report, filled out forms for illegal immigrants, open files into their program (PACTS) and follow up with defendant’s third party custodian to check if they have any problems or changes to report to the court. I have also learned that I am afraid of public speaking. I believe this internship will help me overcome it before it is over. To be in a Law Enforcement position, we have to have confidence and good oral skills to communicate with others. I definitely recommend this internship for Criminal Justice students who are interested to learn about the federal system and would like to get good connection for the future. I have expressed my interest to continue working with them after the internship is over. I believe students should know more about the Pretrial Services, and what it
While interning, I learned how to lead effectively by observing and regularly communicating with leaders in the FBI. I was able to use my critical analysis and writing skills to compose an official memo alongside an Intelligence Analyst, and create a safety procedure that is enforced across the North Alabama FBI offices. This taught me how to effectively communicate with different communities outside of my own.
As the internship program and the training intended, I have learned much related to my major, Criminal Justice. This internship helped me to acknowledge that qualified, knowledgeable professionals are needed by our complex society to define, administer, and put our rules and standards into force. Like jobs in any other field, to work in the field of law requires expertise. Trained experts are the most desirable to be hired by organizations, tasked to manage justice, to direct their operations. By writing articles for the legal website, I learned to assess law enforcement situations orderly. I learned to make use of the basic legal and management theories to analyze the situations. I got the opportunity to show my understanding of the key process in the U.S. criminal justice system. I also learned to combine approaches from management, law, and the behavioral science to apply them to the situations I was studying.
My internship is at the Richland County Public Defender’s Office and I work directly with two juvenile defense attorneys. My office is at the Richland County Judicial Center. This position is very new and I am the second person to have this internship at USC, so defining my position is very complex. I do not have an on-site social work supervisor to turn to when I have questions, so, I have to figure out a lot of things on my own. Being that I work directly with the attorneys, a lot of things I see on the daily are on the legal side and not the social worker side per se. However, the attorneys involve me in the entire process when working with each client to provide a social work perspective to better help the clients and increase the quality of their services.
Not only am I learning a lot of new things, but I am having a hands-on experience to prepare me for my future career in counseling. During this internship at CCP I have been in contact with several different clients. In my case it will be employers, employees, or their family members. CCP provides chaplain ship for business employers, employees, or their family members that may experience some type of crisis. Also, CCP provides chaplain ship for everyday life situations that may need addressing. Whether, it is listening, giving advice, providing a ministry of presence, sending referrals, or praying. Several employees have gained a bond and trust with me wherein, they feel comfortable talking with me and sharing with me personal
It was at the beginning of my Spring 2015 semester that I decided to commit my efforts toward earning a law degree. Though that may seem short notice, it was certainly a heavy decision that was mulled over in my mind for quite some
This past summer, I got the best experience of my life and, that was an opportunity to work with the Honorable Judge Fanon A. Rucker, and the Summer Work Experience in Law Program in Cincinnati, OH. I say this was the best experience, because, I got to experience the legal world which was amazing to me. I always wanted to work in the legal field hints why I choose to pursue bachelors in Criminal Justice. I choose to complete my 90 hour internship to graduate from college with Honorable Judge Rucker just to experience what court life was like, and I applied to the SWEL program to experience the typical day for a lawyer and to learn more about the legal field. I also had to complete my internship with Judge Rucker before June 9th and I did not get into Cincinnati, OH until May 12th so the pressure to finish in time was on.
The internship was a channel to direct my passion for helping others; my supervisor assigned me numerous projects that involved communicating with community leaders. One project was a collaboration with the U.S. Probation Office to reduce recidivism, and it allowed me first hand encounter on how to create policies and procedures to promote community and individual growth. This insight has inspired me to attend law schools to influence legal policies. After the internship, I continued my involvement in the community outreach through the Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters and The Females' Center of Excellence & Leadership, Inc. by mentoring at-risk youths and providing learning opportunities to the youths.
In Criminal Justice specialization. The opportunity to enroll in a dual program such as Law & Criminal Justice is very promising to me and my projects and due to the fact that I already have an MS in Criminal Justice from the university of Nebraska, and I'm a member of several Criminal Justice associations. I think about this form of experience as an internship in the legal field and as a possibility to apply the skills I have learned in class during one program, in practice in the second program. It is an invaluable opportunity that is unique to UND only and that attracted me. In return for this experience, I strongly hope that my skills in other fields related to law will benefit both programs and will give me the opportunity to demonstrate my engagement and my nature as an involved individual.
A person that I have worked with during your internship that I most likely will never forget was Dr. Newcomer. I spent three years on studying in the Palomar College, and I believed that all live an easy life. Most professors I met in the Palomar College did not need write articles and they got pay for summer even they did not teach any class. I did not changed my mind until I talked to Dr. Newcomer about his article, which he tried to submit to a journal. Two reviewers viewed his article, and one of them did not believe Dr. Newcomer had enough evidences to support his hypothesis. Instead of giving up, Dr. Newcomer spent more than a week on revise his paper even he knew there is a low chance his paper will be publish. His attitude really inspired
I was very excited to begin my internship at Paul Hastings, as it was my first real experience in corporate America. I’ve had multiple internships before, but I never felt like I was pushed into a better professional. Upon beginning this internship, I was looking forward to a challenge and that is absolutely what I got.
It has been a while since I started at the internship and I am really glad I decided to work here. I think the experience in this area is a good preview of my career and future. I am learning some important skills and finding out some things about myself and the tough skin I will need in order to stay in the area of juvenile support.
