The media clip of the journalist Michael Parkinson interviewing the actress Meg Ryan is a clear demonstration of a variety of communication strategies being employed by parties who are not familiar with one another. In many ways, this mimics the therapeutic conversations that occur between health professionals and patients when they begin working with one another. In these situations, the interviewer must use a range of questioning techniques to encourage the interviewee to provide information. For this to be successful, the participants in the conversation must usually feel comfortable and at ease.

Therapeutic communication techniques were used in obtaining information from Irene during the interview. A technique used was asking open-ended questions before proceeding with more specific ones. Questions encouraged Irene to discuss details on her own terms without being limited to one-worded responses (Taylor, Lillis & Lynn, 2015). By starting with general open-ended questions, the author gained an understanding of Irene’s current level of consciousness while building a relationship between the two parties (Weber & Farrell, 2016).
One area in her life, Jan values and has also received personal growth is communication. The face to face connection is important to her as well as the words we use. During our interview, she shared a quote from F. S. Gerald. “The Slightest touch can wither or heal”. “Control of the tongue involves an intentional awareness and governance of words as well as tone of voice in all communication” (Calhoun. pp. 208). Jan is aware of the areas in her life that she continues to seek
People spend a significant part of their lives listening and talking, that is the main reason why conversation is regarded to be the most generalised form of talk that concerns both speakers and listeners and it is contemplated to be the essential ingredient in co-operative undertaking (Wardhaugh, 1985). Conversation is informal talk involving two or more people and interviews are a particular type of conversation. In this essay, I intend to reflect on a situation I encountered during my first community placement I had the opportunity to develop my communication skills not just theoretically but also practically, facing a real life environment. My placement made me aware of the importance of interpersonal and communication skills which are very important in the delivery of care. Throughout my nursing career, I will be encouraged to develop reflective practice skills and become a reflective practitioner. Reflection refers to a series of steps that you may take to question and explore an experience with the aim of learning from it. I tended to focus more on the questions I had pre-written instead of letting the conversation flow naturally. In watching the interview, I noticed our body language seemed to mimic one another in my questioning of her. I noticed that we were both leaned back in our chairs as if we were pulling away from the conversation. It seemed as if she could feel my apprehension and that is why she seemed to pull away. However, during her interview with me, she tended to lean forward, while I pulled away. Since she stated she had previous experience in a therapy setting, I feel that she was able to relax more during her questioning in an attempt to have me relax as

Holding face-to-face interviews minimize this challenge because a “trust relationship” is established with the researcher, prompting the interviewee to release and reveal more about their opinion. Furthermore, this technique allows to better understand the cause of their reactions, which was one of my goals. It also offers the advantage of promoting the validity of the data produced, to the extent that the answers are spontaneously generated by the interviewee and are therefore more likely to reflect what he or she thinks. To increase the reliability of the work, I was also committed to conducting interviews respecting the basic rules in this area (re-phrasing questions, sounding empathic and etc.).
Many Filipino compared the interview of Anne Hathaway made by Manny Dela Rosa a.k.a Manny the Movie Guy and by Ricky Lo of The Philippine Star, saying that Ricky Lo is worse when it comes to asking questions than Manny, who integrates real ‘entertainment’ in interviewing celebrities. Manny, who brings laughter to his interviewees, but on the other hand, Ricky Lo, who has made a history in interviewing Anne Hathaway, which is considered, mostly by the netizens, as ‘awkward’ and ‘irritating’ because of the flow that Ricky Lo had made throughout the interview. In Ricky Lo’s Interview, some of his questions are deemed ‘too personal’ to Anne Hathaway. Making the flow of the Interview as awkward as it gets, especially at the end of the video where Ricky Lo asked Anne that if she would like to invite Filipino fans from the Philippines to her movie the “Les Misérables”, and it seems that he has somehow offended Anne by stating “Why don’t you invite them?..” It could be suggested that she is irritated to the way that he conducted the interview.
