Essay 1 Interview Summary I believe that body modification, in the form of piercings and tattoos specifically, is a form of differentiating oneself from the crowd. Its a form of expression the not everyone would choose. My mother on the other hand believes that piercings and tattoos don’t do anything for the wearer other than make them look stupid. Despite having her navel pierced before my mother takes these forms of body modification as a “sign of ignorance and wanting to fit in or belong.” Although my mother believes that what one does in their personal life is “their business” her opinion of a seasoned professional with visible tattoos and/or piercings would still still change. When asked to explain her reasoning my mother stated that she
When thinking in the terms of marriage and one’s partner, the words that come to my mind are compassion, love, tenderness, trust, and devotion. It’s truly amazing to see someone who has endured such tragedy in their life, who has suffered pain, fear, and betrayal by the hands of the one person who should have shown just the opposite. Little did I realize that the woman who would be my instructor for two college courses I had taken would be such an inspiration to me.
I chose to interview Regina Geis, who holds the administrative role as acting supervisor for the County Mental Health adult day program, which provides services for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Ms. Geis has held this position for 15 months. This is her first managerial position within a human service agency. Her style of management has changed over this short period of time. She feels that she is now more direct with her direction with staff. She stated, “Maybe now I come across as a little bit cold. But I have learned that I now have to use the least amount of words to get my point across.”
A woman who is a physical therapist has dreadlocks and noticeable tattoos was accepted by her patient despite her contrasting outward appearance. A runway model with a neck tattoo was accepted by the company and the brands she models for. A woman with a prominent clavicle tattoo is seen as no different by the young girls her agency tends to. Although there are cases of the polar opposite where others are discriminated based on the art they have tattooed on their arms or the body modifications they choose. Trebay used the case of Kimberly Cloutier as an example, where Ms. Cloutier wanted to wear her piercings but was denied due to appearance rules at her

To inspire and influence others, a leader must possess many skills and abilities. As motivational speaker Peter Northouse, states, “a leader should be strong, but not rude; be kind, but not weak; be bold, but not bully; be thoughtful, but not lazy; be humble, but not timid; be proud, but not arrogant” (Northouse, 2013) Moving an entire group of individuals toward a singular goal is a considerable undertaking. Without effective communication skills and a clear vision of what needs to be accomplished, one will feel like they are trying to herd cats rather than leading.
Managers make many decisions every day. Thankfully there are many tools available to a manager as they make these decisions. Tiffany is a General Manager of a franchise in the quick service restaurant industry. She is faced with decisions dozens of times in one day. A large portion of the decisions that she is faced with are made to solve structured problems, however, sometimes an unstructured problem does arise that she needs to address. As well as solving problems Tiffany must also make plans to in order to have structure and organization to achieve the goals set forth by herself and the company that she works for. Looking at some of the decisions that Tiffany has had to make recently it can been seen how she goes about solving
The professor I decided to interview is my biology teacher Kane-Barnese because I am a biology major and wanted to learn more from a once Concordia student that graduated with a degree in biology. She is a new teacher that seemed a little nervous at first but now she has become a good teacher and I look forward to going to her biology class every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:30am to 9:20am. She is also my biology lab teacher, that is my favorite class because we get to do hands on stuff like finding the osmolarity of potatoes, cellular respiration fermentation and bean seeding oxygen consumption.
I'm passionate about making a difference. When I'm involved with a project at work I want to do my best to achieve success. I feel the same way about what I do in my personal life.
After interviewing my Grandfather, I realized that our physical, social, and cognitive skills do change over time. He stated that as the years progressed he lacked the ability to complete simple tasks. When an adult begins to lack the ability to remember things and complete everyday tasks then it is an example of how aging can have an effect on people. My interviewee also stated in the interview that he gets tired more easily, so physically he does not have the same capacity that he did at a younger age. Socially he has changed into a basically listener instead of a speaker. As he got older he mentioned he lost interest in speaking as much as he was accustomed to, and began listening more to what others had to say. He represents a perfect example of how later adulthood can make your social, cognitive, and physical skills decrease.
As I enter the classroom for senior interviews, I am calm. Most of my crewbies were nervous. I on the other hand, was not. The only problem is. I had no idea who my senior buddy was. So when I entered the room and everyone began to pair up. I got a little frustrated. So I asked the teacher “who is my senior buddy?” She glared at me, than she said “he's not here.” Luckily, a senior was missing one of my crewbies, so she skipped over to me and said “I'll take him”.
In contrast, Pitts’ study of women with non-mainstream body modifications through interviews and autobiographical narratives was focused entirely on their lived experiences of their tattoos, piercings, and other modifications (2003, p. 58). With her use of qualitative methods, the subjective qualities of the participants’ bodily experiences were recognized, instead of erasing the richness of the narratives which would only be apparent with these types of methods. Furthermore, although Pitts’ research did focus on bodies, the women were not objectified and did not experience the same form of erasure as the men in previous studies, as substantial attention was given to representing their individual identities and experiences. While the impact of these methodological choices may be difficult or even impossible to separate from the theoretical basis or approach of the research, awareness of how they may affect the representation of participant voices and experiences in research, as well as the associated ethical implications of this must be maintained.
Congratulations you have landed yourself an interview! Yay!! This is actually the first sign that the employer is interested in you. This is your chance to prove to the employer that no one is more suited for the job than you. Be cautious, because everything counts from here all out.
The manager interviewed for this assignment was Chief Warrant 3 Linwood Bowers, the Chief of the Personnel Support Directorate of the White House Communications Agency (WHCA). Chief Bowers has held his present position for four years. The focus of the interview was the unique challenges of good communication.
Qualitative interview questions are semi-structured in order to get the maximum information and insights out of the informants. The questions are factual and open-ended, so the research can learn consumer opinion and behavior in their life setting (Boyce & Neale 2006). Individual interviews takes about fifteen (15) to thirty (30) minutes. In-depth interviews lasts longer than thirty (30) minutes. Informants were selected mainly in the age between twenty (20) to forty-five (45), including students, housewives or office workers, who are most likely to participate in green behavior (Gilg et al. 2005). The informants were recorded in the age range, gender, nationality, marital status, whether having children, education background, and occupation.
I have learned in this section that work does not just stay at the school in the hours that you are with the students, but work is the hours with the students but afterwards as well. My sister said that she worked about 10 hours a day working a little before school starts and then works after school for a couple more hours as a middle school teacher that teaches mathematics and PE.
