A group consists of two or more people who interact with each other and share a common purpose. A group consists of individuals who work independently and are led by a strong focused individual. A group that I participate in is Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Sanstha (BAPS) Swaminarayan youth group. BAPS is a worldwide religious and civic organization within the Swaminarayan branch of Hinduism. BAPS was established as a formal organization on 5 June 1907 by Shastriji Maharaj. It was formed on the founder's doctrinal stand that Swaminarayan had promised to remain manifest in the person of Akshar, a term used to describe his chief devotee and Swaminarayan's abode. These five factors are stability, similarity, size, support, and satisfaction. These factors measure the extent to which group members get along. However, I am going to focus on these four factors in my paper and they are socialization, similarity, support, and satisfaction. Socialization is an important process that helps us internalize the organization’s culture. An organization’s culture is comprised of values, norms, language, beliefs, symbols, and assumptions that develop over time and begin with the founder of the organization. Pramukh Swami Maharaj was the succession to the founder Shastriji Maharaj and he was the one who created the values, norms, language, beliefs, and symbols that we at BAPS honor today. The values implemented are respect, honesty, friendliness, and teamwork. The language implemented is Hindi, which is spoken by approximately 490 million people around the world. The beliefs implemented are that swami will protect you and bring you a life of peace and serenity. Lastly, the symbols include the BAPS logo and Murtis which are any form, embodiment or solid object, that typically refers to an image, statue or idol of a deity or person in Indian …show more content…

Our strengths include the internalization of culture which is embracing the values, norms, language, beliefs, and symbols set forth by the founders of BAPS. Another strength is the ethnic and cultural similarities that are shared among all group members. The support that is received by those in higher positions is another major strength, which also leads to high levels of satisfaction to those involved in the youth groups. However, one of our major weaknesses and challenges is the lack of diversity seen in the members. Heterogeneous groups perform better on more difficult, complex tasks.
