History most times is written by the victor’s, but only certain people are included in the books. The reason history is written by the victors is because their survivors where most times the losers aren’t. The victors overwhelmingly influence the history and what is written and therefore don’t tell the tales of people they fought, but rather themselves and how they won. When you read a history book it doesn’t tell you about the losers. For America most of its history was dominated by white men and was also written by them. Another example is the Civil war in which the north was victorious therefore they influenced America, and what people believe right. America has dealt with many things that shaped our history including major wars, fighting for freedoms of all people, and terrorist attacks, but they all give us a reason to continue strengthening our country. The United States of America has historical events that underlie the primary example of a country which overcomes every adversity with courage and commitment. Several pieces of history can obviously emphasize the strength of those who inhabited this nation and shaped it into what it is today; one of which is the era of slavery. Slavery is a topic that is often rejected during the mentioning of historical events in America primarily due to the fact that it contradicts what American culture advocates. When attempting to reprimand their previous discriminatory actions towards African Americans, many Americans often fail to realize the impact that African Americans truly had on this country. Without slavery, as inauspicious as the idea may sound, the framework of America would have not been established, its populational growth would not have been as rapid, and the amount of labor that induced economic and military success would be nearly impossible, thus leading to the conclusion that America would not have excelled without slavery.

The North viewed every soul as equal while the South believed that white men were created superior to all blacks, no matter the historical background of the person or the reputation he carries. In the Declaration of Independence created when the United States was born, one of the most important line states that, “all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.” Because the Declaration of Independence does not specify that only white men are created equal, the inference can be made that men of all races are automatically given the same rights, opportunities, and the unalienable rights. While the North adheres to this quote set forth by the founding fathers of America, the South clearly rejects men’s equality as proven in Stephen’s Cornerstone Speech. In the speech, the south would consider any argument the North makes regarding equality if, and only if, “the negro is equal.” Directly subsequent to this claim, the South counters any arguments by mentioning that the premise in which abolitionists base their philosophy is fallacious, which translates to ‘Blacks are created inferior to whites, so any argument regarding whites’ and blacks’ equality is automatically deemed invalid.’ This adamant mindset that Southern

“All Men are Created Equal”, yet slavery was still present at the time. 8 years after the Trail of Tears, America had a war with Mexico so they can obtain more land. The white race believed that the west had to be conquered. At the end of the Mexican-American war, the United States gained new territory using racial justification on the pursuit of land. After 10 years they had conquered all of United States territory except Alaska. There was a whole philosophy towards manifest destiny that impelled western expansion throughout the 19th century. They were settled that the west only belong to Whites. As they continue to move west, some Americans would use science to justify their actions and support there believe in racial superiority against different races.
The theme for American History is to not lose hope over life’s disappointments and to instead concentrate on the positive. The quote, “You are forgetting who you are, nina. I have seen you staring down at the boy’s house. You are heading for humiliation and pain,” plays a big role in the story. When Elena is about to step out the door to go to Eugene’s house (who is white), her mom warns her and says that she’ll be humiliated. But Elena wants to take the chance and would rather think about the positive outcome instead of the negative. Elena is seemed as an optimistic person. In the United States, November is a month leading up to a feast where we all give thanks to the people we love and care for; as well as giving thanks to the people who helped the first settlers survive during the harsh winter in a new world-- the Native Americans. While citizens of this country feast on Thanksgiving Day, they may not take into consideration the systematic murders of America’s native peoples in order to get to where we are today. This is because the history of how the United States became a sovereign nation has been twisted into a biased account, which is taught in the American school system. This problem has lead to a society with racism deeply ingrained in our culture, and ignorance about the actual events which took place in efforts to demolish the Native American culture and their history. It is time to end this mentality in our school system, and to end the racism that has been in our society through decades and decades of misinformation found in our textbooks and public institutions. If this nation is ever to heal from the millions of lives taken in order for us to live on this land, we must implement plans for our school system to better include what exactly happened to our native peoples, rather than twist truths and distort the reality of America’s history to cover-up the white man’s crimes and guilt.
Our history is written by the winners of the bloody, and merciless battles that shaped our country. The hate that has slaughtered thousands of people, is also the hate that has made our country the beautiful tragedy it is today. We all know the history of how Christopher Columbus came to the native land, named the people here indians because he thought he was in the Indi mountains and brought disease and colonists to the land to make it part of spain.
America was founded by the Europeans who were looking for a short cut to trade with other countries. Since the beginning they have controlled other races and been in charge. Abraham Lincoln abolished slavery with the thirteenth amendment, except for punishment as a crime. For this reason is why the number of African Americans in jail/prison went up and is still rising. Police stop Blacks and Latinos at a higher rate than Caucasians. The justice system in the United States is biased because it was built on white power, certain parts of the country are still segregated, and there is lack of black people in charge.

The most important event in American history is the Revolutionary war because it helped us gain our freedom. By having this war we became America. Without it we would be British. This war made america different than Brittain. A lot would be different if it didn’t happen. That is why i chose it to be the first important event in american history.
I fashion myself an Alpha-Geek in note-taking of the first class. I take notes like some people take drugs. So to imagine a world with no written language seems inconceivable to me. I find simplistic material such as grocery lists, menus, thank-you cards, and appointment reminders to be of great significance in my everyday life, but these aspects would be secondary to the fundamental historical documents such as The Declaration of Independence or The Constitution of the United States.
American society is known for having the highest standard of living across the globe; this is solely due to the consumerist culture that is brought forth by capitalism. Americans in the U.S. take pride in these standards and in the freedoms that this democratic nation has established.
