When one first thinks of Greek life or a sorority the only thing that comes to mind is the social aspect. Most people don’t think of sororities as social institutions that envelop their own culture, with mannerisms, languages and customs that are unique to each individual organization. However, these institutions promote a common set of values that enable members to become connected in a way that has a more profound meaning than just social interaction. Greek organizations are good examples of how institutions can affect and be affected by social status and roles within the collegiate community. They are also a prime example of how race, class and gender can affect a social setting in both positive and negative manners.

This is upsetting to me because I worked really hard in high school and in my last year and a half of community college. I worked really hard just to not be able to continue on to Cornell or Canisius like I would like to because I can’t afford it. Instead, I’m settling on Buffalo State College, which although seems like a great school, isn’t my first or second choice. Buff State’s tuition is exponentially lower than that of Canisius or Cornell, mainly because it’s a public SUNY school. However, it’s not as regionally accredited as the latter two schools.
The university also participates in many sports competitively, including basketball, swimming, rugby, rowing, soccer, cycling and volleyball.
Moving to Syracuse a little over 3 years ago from Morocco all by myself proved rather difficult at first and my first year here was especially hard as battled minor depression. I had left Morocco to try and better myself in my birth country and the country I spent the majority of my childhood in. After I came out of my one year battle with depression. I had a new outlook on life and wanted to better myself and after my cousin told me about Onondaga Community College and all it had to offer, I was sold. Despite it the fact that it was far from easy getting started as it was all so knew to me. Applying for admission, registering for classes, applying for financial aid, and trying to decide on a major. Fortunately, everyone at the student central

Outside of Columbia's classroom exists the profound appealing and a debilitating asset of the college: New York City. This enticing city can lead to a divided sense of community and a feeling of aloofness among freshmen that is frequently reported by students who write reviews regarding Columbia. The impact that I aspire to have is on this discrepancy of inclusion. Coming from a close-knit community the importance of connections has always been intrinsic and I find community support is integral to achieving success. This aspect is the area in which I could have the most profound impact and consequently where I would choose to initiate a difference. No one should experience college alone and events to unify students would undoubtedly be welcomed

I look to Syracuse because of the people whom I have met that actuate the university’s philosophies on every level. On the national and international stages I have seen Syracuse faculty, students, and alumni influence the direction of our profession. Locally, as I found on my visit to the program, these same people are humble and willing mentors who truly value one-on-one human connection and collaboration. Following the body of Syracuse’s community member’s work, publications, and teachings, it is clear that the Syracuse community’s actions are just as strong as the philosophy that drives them.
Every college is different and unique. There are large universities with tens of thousands of students and there are small colleges with only hundreds of students. Every college curriculum is different. They may offer the same core courses such as English or Math, but the vast majority of courses differ significantly from college to college. These courses can range from fine arts to pre med with hundreds of classes in between. Every campus is different. Large universities are big enough to warrant their own zip code with amenities such as stadiums, libraries, dining halls, and exercise facilities. While, on the other hand, small community colleges operate in one building with only classrooms and a cafeteria.
When I first arrived to Suny Oneonta I felt slightly lost and yearned for a club or team or organization to give me a group of people and a bigger sense of purpose than simply attending college, getting my degree and leaving. I chose to pursue greek life, I loved literally everything that came along with being involved in the greek system, going to on campus events, having fundraisers, meeting all different kinds of people that I never would have met otherwise. In a sense, the greek system on college campus gives me the sense of purpose that religion provides for others. My fraternity however was founded by and originally intended only for jewish men. Zeta Beta Tau was the first national jewish fraternity, however in 1954 that
