It was so controversial that the United states nearly pulled out of the international spectacle. Germany wanted to use the Olympics to showcase their country. Many people are more active today than they were many years ago. Injury prevention and diagnosis plays a big role in today’s society. Preventing an injury is important for many athletes all over the world, and for people that are physically active. Preventing injuries can benefit an athlete in the long run. Athletic trainers help athletes and physically active people stay healthy for what they do on a daily basis.

History In the early 1800’s, the primary mode of education for the lower class were charity schools (Tyack & Cuban, 1995). These schools were created by Protestant organizations and focused on serving as many needy children as possible (Tyack & Cuban, 1995). With limited budgets to operate on, extracurricular activities were not offered (Gorn, 2004). By 1850, many states paid for public schools through taxes and budgets increased compared to their charity school counterparts (Zirin, 2008). Keelan Simpson is the Sports Coordinator of the Bloomington YMCA and his main responsibilities consist of running all sports programs at the YMCA, hiring the correct employees/staff to coach or help run the different sports programs. The different sports programs include youth summer camps, youth seasonal sports, and adult basketball leagues. The YMCA is a global organization that serves all individuals of a community, allowing them to have access to recreational sports, fitness programs and many other health opportunities.

Baker instills persistence into Holling, allowing him to exceed any limits or constraints put on him. In March, Holling learns that he is required to try out for the cross country team, but at this point, he is unaware of his talent. However, Mrs. Baker, being a medalist in running, teaches Holling to “run like Jesse Owens, who won four gold medals at the 1936 Olympics,” giving the reader as assumption that such a grand title would surely motivate Holling (Schmidt). Mrs. Baker taught Holling that running not only involves good form, but determination, and a willingness to push forward and strive. Preparing for a big meet, Holling was training vigorously to use technique, and to compete passionately, and “that night [he] ran like Jesse Owens through the dark March streets. Leaning forward. Arms and legs like pistons. Head straight and still. Hands loose. Breathing controlled” (Schmidt). Holling utilized what was taught to him and used it as motivation to push forward and exceed any limitation imposed on him. The limitations here are public opinions, or someone judging a person based on their appearance, intelligence, etc. Similarly, the eighth graders bullied Holling and the younger seventh graders which made them feel inferior and unable to be better than what they are, which with Mrs. Baker’s help, urges Holling to work harder, using what he learns from his teacher. From a very young age, I have loved being involved in sport and fitness. My earliest memories all involve me running around with a ball or a bat of some kind either in my hand or at my feet. My love for physical activity has remained and since then, I have becoming increasingly interested in coaching and the more theoretical side of sport. This has inspired me to pursue a career in physical education and coaching.

To me an Athletic Trainer is someone that graduates from college certified to provide help to people that are injured, right out of college. This major can be obtained in four years without and further education, however; must take classes to keep up with the ever growing medical field. The main thing I think of when I think about going into Athletic Training is working at a school with the schools sports teams, however; they also can work in physical therapy clinics, hospital settings, nursing homes, etc. Athletic Trainers focus on prevention, treatment, what is wrong, and getting the patient back to health as well as working along side a doctor or physical therapist for further assistants.

To satisfy my curiosity and gain a broad understanding of athletic training, I chose to interview my boss, Pete Stevens. You are the athletic director of a budding high school. Currently there is a six and a half foot junior with incredible athletic ability, earning national recognition. Weekly you are receiving phone calls from newspaper and television reporters, as well as fielding questions from college coaches and community sponsors. You see the potential in this student, and it leads to recognition, acclaim, and possibly future financial gain. There is, however, one small problem; the student-athlete is currently failing three of six classes for the semester. As it stands, if the school year finishes without change in the grades, your future of fame and fortune will be ineligible for the senior season.

Our hearts pounding and stomachs filled with excitement and nerves as we step into Georgian Court University’s gym. The day has finally come The Shore Conference Championship for girl’s volleyball! The gym is huge nothing like we are used to, you could practically see yourself in the hardwood floors. We are the first team to arrive so we get a feel for the gym before anyone else gets there. Including ourselves there are four teams that will have the chance to play in the final to win The Shore Conference. The first game is the semi-finals our opponent is the team Barnegat. Barnegat is known for there tall middles who like to hit the short corners, so knowing this we had to make adjustments that we are not so familiar with.

I would like to become a certified athletic trainer through the Linfield program because of my love for sports and medicine. I was involved in a number of sports throughout my life and have gone through a number of injuries. There is one injury in particular that sparked my interest in athletic training. I was playing soccer at Chemeketa Community College when I broke my foot. I spent many hours with the athletic trainer there Julie Speck (PT/ATC/R), who gave me the opportunity to work with her in the training room. She also sparked another interest and that is to get my dual credentials in athletic training and physical therapy. I see myself using both degrees in the future like my mentor Julie Spark (PT/ATC/R). She works in a hospital as a physical therapist and is contracted out to Chemeketa Community College as an athletic trainer. This is exactly what I plan to do with both my degrees.

Jenson Jones physical development is normal. Jenson jones physical needs include shelter a place to live, food is that he is healthy and has a balanced diet, fresh air meaning he goes out in the garden or to the park, good hygiene meaning he is clean and warmth meaning he has clothing and also a place to live.
