The three authors, all wrote children's books, and at least one of their books became best seller, and or a popular book that is still in publication today, These authors include; Johanna Spyri,from the 1800-1900. Margaret Wise Brown, from the 1900-1949, and Shel Silverstein from the 1950 to the present. Margaret Wise Brown, author; born in Pomfret, Connecticut, May 23, 1910. Margaret wrote many books and stories for children. She was best known for “Goodnight Moon, and The Runaway Bunny. Her books were unique, most of if not all of her characters were animals. At the age of 16 Johanna was sent to a residential school in the city of Yverdon. After she graduation she returned home, and begin teaching her siblings how to read. Johanna begin writing religious poems, and hymns. In 1880 Johanna Spyri received much praise for Heidi, although she had published many short stories for children and some for adults. After the unforeseen death of her husband and son, she started writing more stories that were published, but never quite achieved the popularity of the story ”Heidi.” Shel Silverstein was born on September 25, 1930, in Chicago. Silverstein studied music and became a composer and musician, and he wrote songs. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1950. Silverstein served in Korea, and Japan. He became a cartoonist while serving in the Army, and begin writing for a magazine called the Stars and Stripes. Shel Silverstein, drew cartoon characters for Playboy, and was featured on the cover. In 1963, he met Ursula Nordstrom, a book editor, she convinced him to begin writing stories for children. Silverstein wrote the Uncle Shelby's Story of Lafcadio: The Lion Who Shot Back. He went on to write: A Giraffe and a Half and The Giving Tree, in which became his most popular
