With 2017 quickly coming to an end, the congressional and governor races are heating up. One race that is flying under the radar is the New Jersey 5th congressional district election. Democratic incumbent Josh Gottheimer is bracing up for what should be a hotly contested seat. As a New Jersey native, I have a keen sense of the type of people that Gottheimer needs to reach out to. The New Jersey 7th district, where I am from, is not much different than that of the 5th. Both are wealthy areas that tend to vote Republican. The Democratic Party has had a setback, especially with the 2016 presidential election, but Gottheimer is one bright spot that they cannot afford to lose. In order to retain his seat, which I believe he will, Josh …show more content…
Personal phone calls and mail orders is an additional way of raising money. This area relies more on his ability to attract voters by laying the foundation of who he is and how his agenda will help the constituents of the 5th district prosper. Josh Gottheimer was born and grew up in Livingston New Jersey, which resides in the 11th district, right below the 5th. Being from around that area gives him a huge advantage because he is familiar with the people there and what they need the most. He needs to create a reason as to why the voters should vote for him and not the opposition. “I believe that we need more people in Congress who are willing to work across the aisle – with Democrats, Republicans, and Independents – to get things done for our families and for children.” (Gottheimer) This message of inclusiveness and cooperation will play well, especially because of the political environment that we live in. He must keep his message simple enough to reach a broad range of people. Pamphlets that are distributed by mail should be comprised of a few major components. People are attracted to the simplicity in political brochures. A pamphlet with his face and a few crucial aspects of his agenda will be efficient enough to garner donations. His ability to raise substantial amounts of money and have his policies reach and resonate with residents will make or break his campaign. Lobbyists have become a critical aspect in political
This whole district was the biggest pain of them all because one mouse click could easily throw off balance of the other districts. I had moved his district a little bit to the left and then added a tumor shaped section to his district and called it a day. That last part in which I drew the tumor shaped section had made his percentages 50% Republican, 48% Democrat, and a whole 2% Undecided. The funniest thing is it was pure luck, it had fell into place. Lastly, we have ole Mark Etz and his oddly shaped district, which I had just left after the aftermath of the formation of the other districts. It’s kind of shaped like the number three, I’m not going to question it because it had finished with 50% Republican, 48% Democrat, and 2% Undecided. This was clearly an attempt to “Partisan Gerrymander” in favor of the Republican party, which displays unfairness to the Democrats. I believe everyone in politics should be able to have a chance at winning, but that’s just too much to ask now-a-days.
In order to raise money for the campaign, I would first find the interest groups who share same idea as I do that they also agree upon about one specific
Jack Flynt was a Southern Conservative Democrat who believed in a “personal-to-person” representational strategy, in other words he viewed himself as a representative of the people. Flynt preferred working with the people rather than discussing the policies which hurt his chances for reelection in 1974 and 1976. The closeness of Jack Flynt’s 1974 and 1976 reelection contests is due to his new district and the failure of his person-to-person strategy. The new district was “pushed northward into the near suburbs of Atlanta and up to the city line” (Fenno, 2000, 51). In this redistricting Flynt would be “picking up 120,000 unwanted and unfamiliar suburbanites on the southern rim of Atlanta’s own Fulton County, along with 30,000 more in suburban Doulgas County” (Fenno, 2000, 52). The new district “brought former Democrats as well as people moving from the cities to the suburbs which would institutionalize Republicanism in Georgia” (Fenno, 2000, 62).
Angela is honored to serve as the representative of such an ethnically, economically, and individually diverse district. The sixth district populace is a vital contributor to the economy of New Jersey, generating revenue through tourism, fishing, light and heavy manufacturing, advanced research, and technological development. The sixth district’s urban centers, New Brunswick, Asbury Park, and Perth Amboy, and acclaimed universities, Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, and Monmouth, contribute to the vibrancy of life within the sixth district. The dedicated people of eastern New Jersey make the sixth district a wonderful place to live, as well as an esteemed region to represent.

Incumbent Representative Eliot L. Engel balances the demographic needs of New York’s 16th Congressional District as well as the needs of his Democratic Party. He has served in the 16th Congressional district since January 3rd, 2013 and is next up for reelection in 2018. He was previously the representative for New York’s 19th Congressional District as a Democrat from 1989 to 1992, and was the representative for New York’s 17th Congressional District as a Democrat from 1993 to 2012. Engel is a fair reflection of the district, as he is a white, well-educated, American man. Nevertheless, the 16th Congressional District is relatively diverse, and has a slightly larger female to male ratio.
In his famous book, he states the how democrats don’t have the political support of poor rural Americans. He also mentions how Republicans have convinced many Americans to “vote against their own self-interest.”
Minnesota 's 2nd Congressional District race will be a battleground in this year’s election. Republican incumbent John Kline chose not to run for re-election, leaving the seat open for a new representative. Minnesota’s 2nd Congressional District covers the south Twin Cities metro area and includes Dakota, Goodhue, Scott, and Wabasha counties and portions of Rice and Washington counties. Democrat Angie Craig, Republican Jason Lewis, and the Independent party runner Paula Overby will compete against each other, in the fall general election scheduled for November 8, 2016. Below, each candidate will be discussed in further detail including their party affiliation, geographic area served, whether they are and incumbent or held other offices, a brief background on the issue, candidates stand on the issue, along with a personal reflection/opinion on the issue related to the information received.
In the central New York farmland that includes Chenango, Cortland, Madison and Oneida counties and parts of Broome, Herkimer, Tioga and Oswego counties, there is an ugly three-way race for the 22nd congressional district’s seat, currently held by progressive republican Richard Hanna, who is retiring at the end of his current term. A standard sized district with roughly 720,000 citizens, this rural patch of eight counties and three universities has been faced with a drastically falling population and an ever-growing absence of jobs. With an 8.4% unemployment rate and a median household income of only 45,000 dollars, the district that includes hard-hit rust belt cities like Utica and Binghampton has seen population levels decreasing significantly since the manufacturing industry in New York fell by the wayside decades ago. There are 130,000 registered voters in the district, with 35% being democrats, 38% republicans, and another 19% independent. A slightly leaning republican voter base now roots most their careers in farming, and feel the most important issue in their district is jobs, with second amendment rights and climate change as other hot button issues. The 22nd district is firmly Trump territory, with the Donald enjoying a double-digit lead over Hillary Clinton. The current congressman, Richard Hanna, is not drinking the Trump kool-aid at all. As one of the most progressive republicans in the House of
Looking at the demographics of his constituency, it noticeable it contains the concentration of components of the Democratic Party. There is a large university presence in the Pittsburgh area and the majority of his constituency is 18-44 years old (U.S. Census Bureau, 2017) and according to (cite) education and youth usually equals democrat. According to (cite) the older generation is usually more conservative. It is studied that people vote based on political party because of political socialization and much of this area has been politically socialized for the democrat party as seen by previous elections in the Pittsburgh area where (cite and add fec previous elections or almanac.) 99% of his population lives in urban areas, and according to (cite) people in urban areas are typically more liberal,
In the following documentary, “Last Man Standing: Politics Texas Style” this film is taken place from a behind-the-scenes point of view that shows a very closely fought race in the Texas, There was an ongoing race for the House District 45. Not only did you see the ongoing race but also got to witness the governor’s race, which is Tony Sanchez against Governor Rick Perry. Also another witness Ron Kirk running for senate in Texas against John Cornyn. Overall numerous comments are proclaimed by local and nation figures in the documentary about discussion’s on politics, which really had a very intuitive background to an in depth side from running campaigns to strategies that some candidates used to attract voter to vote for them. In the documentary it primarily focused on two specific candidates running for The House District 45. First, you had Rick Green, a thirty-one year old incumbent Republican Legislator and a conservative leader that is running for reelection as House District 45. He had served two terms during the republican holder generation. Most people notice right from the beginning that he is well more experience candidate for the election, thus making people more openly trust him that he can manage the position of in which he is running for. This not only makes him more experienced through the people’s perspective but also through his campaign style and debate appearances. Another appealing interest that people see is that he is a Christian which people pick up
Over the next couple of years Hartnett will be doing some more mainstream kind of movies. He plays opposite John Malkovich in Valley of the Gods, and he’s in The Long Home which is directed by James Franco.
Campaign assistance is the form of group members are able to work for the political campaigns, including precinct workers to get out the vote. volunteers to put up posters, and pass out literature. staff the phone banks at the campaign headquarters (Schmidt, S., et al., 2011, p.152).
Appearances on entertainment shows, gives candidates an escape from the highly critical national press to a much more friendlier environment for them. A great example would be interviews on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show or Colbert Report. Another beneficial outlet for campaigns is social websites that were mainly used in the 2008 election and continued through 2012 elections. “For example, nearly six million people viewed the New York Time’s posting of the first Obama-Romney debate on YouTube”. (Dunaway & Graber. 2009. Pg. 316) In 2012 the Obama campaign turned to Twitter to target direct messages to voters and contributors, they also had more than sixteen million e-mail addresses. Others sources of direct social media that campaigns use are candidate-sponsored websites, campaign websites, and special interest pages for groups such as senior citizens, veterans, college students, or young
