This past summer, I had the opportunity to study at Kent State University’s NYC Studio and intern at Fabric to Finish, Inc., a product-development consulting firm in the Garment Center. I valued my time there, but would not call my internship a success. I was inexperienced and undereducated and it showed in nearly everything I did. In fact, I knew nothing about the product development process and made countless mistakes. I understand that making mistakes while interning is apart of the learning process and is more or less normal, but being normal is not acceptable for me. While I was embarrassed of my lack knowledge, I still loved going to my internship everyday, being able to help create a product from start to finish – figuring out what fabric …show more content…
At the BF+DA, I will learn to enhance their design mentors’ experience through sampling and production under the supervision of their production coordinator. I believe it is important to supplement this experience with education, so I also decided to apply for the Fashion Business Management program, at the Fashion Institute of Technology with hopes of changing my program to Production Management in the fall. Applying to this program may seem excessive considering I recently graduated from Kent State with a Bachelor of Science in Fashion Merchandising and an internship at the BF+DA, but I have always gone the extra mile in the interest of bettering …show more content…
After working in the field for a number of years and gaining the practical experience I need, I will more than likely return to school and peruse a graduate degree in either Business Administration or Global Fashion Management (depending on what direction my career goes in), and achieve my ultimate goal of being the vice president of product development at a prominent fashion house. My success is contingent on continuing my education at FIT and I cannot wait to start my career in product
After I graduated from high school, I still didn’t know where and what I wanted to do, but I always knew that I wanted to be in the fashion industry. My sister, who is graduated from The New School Parsons with a degree of fashion design, helped to lead me and trace a path for me. That’s how I decided to come to New York and started my adventure. The first year I had a foreign language study as known as American Language Program at Columbia University. After I completed my studies for a year, I applied to Berkeley college for the fashion merchandising and management major, after I got accepted, I started my studies in 2012 and continue my education in Berkeley College currently.
Discovering and choosing a college that best suits my needs was a rigorous yet thrilling task. The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising clearly came forth as the best choice for me to further my education in design. Being unable to visit the college campus, as I live in New York, I've done lots and lots of research about FIDM, and I realize the institute offers what I hope to gain from my college experience.
Wayne Dyer once said “doing what you love is the cornerstone of having abundance in your life”. Ever since I was a little girl, fashion has always been a very important part of my life. However, while most young girls were busy designing Barbie’s next outfit, I was enthusiastically trying to figure out the best way to market and sell Barbie to my friends. This habit did not end during my childhood years; rather it followed me through high school. I firmly believe that being passionate about your career can add much happiness and depth to your life. By attending FIT I can bring and take away positive ideas and qualities.
F.I.T. has very distinguishing qualities that aren’t comparable to any other school, which made my decision to apply to F.I.T. so simple. It is a well-known fact that F.I.T. is the top school to attend for fashion, which is why I would be honored if accepted. To know that there is a school in the middle of one of the biggest fashion capitals in the world that offers the education and opportunity to learn and grow in the area of fashion of your choosing almost seems too good to be true. I am confident that attending the Fashion Institute of Technology will give me the first hand experience I need to lead me to my career goal in Fashion Business Management, and will allow me the best education that I can get while opening many doors for me in my
Into 11th grade I pursued this path of taking fashion classes in the city, and took fashion marketing classes in. From all the hard work and determination In these classes through out high school, I was rewarded with high grades, which are hard to obtain in these courses. I also stood out because I was interviewed and placed upon the FIT website itself, under “who’s in precollege?” (When you apply for a course) which holds the information and pictures of a handful of unique and stylish individuals. All of my fashion experiences as a whole have built me into the hardworking, determined, independent individual I am now and I am very proud that was able to achieve these aspects in order to reach my goal of being apart of the fashion industry. I also feel that this has made me eligible and also worthy of becoming a member of the National Honor Society who’s character will be beneficial towards this
My love affair with fashion started years ago, but over these past 2 years it has grown into something so beautiful. Fashion made it’s grand entrance in my life when I was looking over a Chanel catalog along with a few other designers. For example; Vera Wang, Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Marc Jacobs, Phoebe Philo, and many more. The designs caught my eye and I was just mesmerized by it all. It literally took my breath away! I always told myself and my family that I will grow to be an amazing fashion designer and sell beautiful, elegant clothing known to man. A worldwide known designer.
After graduating from Brazosport College, I plan to transfer to the University of Houston in the spring of 2018 to obtain my Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a major in Management. Once I complete my Bachelor’s degree my goal is to have my own fashion boutique. I have always been told to find my passion and turn it into a career. Turning my love for fashion into my own business is what I plan to accomplish one day. My goal is to not only have my own business, but create a platform that will make a positive impact in the community and the lives of each customer.

I did apply for the Mercy College Internship Grant last week. Again, thank you for writing me the letter of recommendation for internship grant, I appreciated it. In the meantime, I just wanted you to know that everything is going well for me, working for Mr. Beane. I am very grateful to have this job experience at this moment of my undergraduate studies. This experience has made me a better professional and an employable person.
I am Mikayla Paradis and I am currently attending Bemidji State University as a junior in the BSN program. I would love to have this great internship experience for the sole reasoning that I would enjoy to experience the atmosphere of rural healthcare. I currently work, and am enrolled in the clinical experience in the Bemidji-Sanford Hospital. In comparison, Fosston would open my eyes to a whole new population. I have worked for Essentia-Fosston in the past in a long term care facility as a registered nursing assistant, but with the experience would be very different in the shoes of a registered nurse.
Thanks to the opportunity provided by Kristin Carpenter O’Steen at the State Attorney’s Office of the Sixth Judicial Circuit, Tyler Marth was given a tremendous educational and insightful experience through his internship. Tyler was able to learn about the day-to-day functions of state attorney’s and the judicial system by shadowing Assistant State Attorney Jacob Gordon. The intricacies of the legal system were on full display for Tyler as he was able to watch several court cases, such as a manslaughter trial, and was also able to take part in several pre-trials and calendars with attorneys Zane Thomas and Kristin Normandeau as he was able to watch these proceedings from the desk itself. The internship also gifted several other wonderful experiences
The industry is tough, challenging, and competitive, and it has a very dynamic nature in the sense that what may be fashion today can become obsolete tomorrow, what is obsolete tomorrow can make a comeback day after. And the program that i have chosen will equip me with the skills & understanding
My long term goal is to be able to work for an interior furnishing or décor company like Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware or Room and Board. I would like to do the set visuals for the catalog shoot. To achieve this I plan to work hard to make myself marketable and stand out in the industry. My next step to achieve my goal is to network with people within these companies, while still keeping my options open for other job prospects. After I graduate I hope to work within one of these companies as an assistant visual merchandiser and work my way up the ladder. By starting at the bottom you learn every job, the required tasks and the company’s structure. With this goal I intend to finish my degree, continue learning the craft and skills, networking and eventually working for one of these companies.
The fashion design career, has recently emerged as one of the most popular and competitive among young people. Those who actually succeed in design have a very individualistic personal style and don’t follow trends set by others. Having fashion design as your profession sometimes allows you to meet glamorous people. It can also put you in charge of what is in and out when it comes to clothing through ramp shows and fashion write-ups. Most designers have a great social status, and are accepted by everyone. However, There are many aspects which may or may not help you choose it as your career.
