Did you Know, every year the U.S emergency departments treat more than 200,000 children ages 14 and younger for recess and playground injuries that happen in school. Recess has always been a dangerous place and a waste of time for school hours. Ever since it began back in 1834 in New England. When Amos Bronson Alcott was the one who thought he came up with a great idea. The idea to have recess in the first place, but when he started recess did he think about kids safety, and that they would probably either shorten kids classes which means a smaller education.I strongly believe kids should not have recess. If kids need exercise they can do it in P.E and get some of their energy out. P.E is a great way to get that energy out and exercise. Recess can also be a very dangerous place, kids can get fractures, internal injuries, concussions, and dislocations. Recess is dangerous and kids don't need it. Personally I believe kids should not have recess in school because recess can be a waste of time for school hours. Kids get enough exercise in PE so they can get enough energy out, but also enough to still do class. “In 2007 the center of Education Policy at George Washington University found that 62% of school districts have increased the amount of time spent on English language arts or math in elementary …show more content…
With a large number of students and a limited number of adults, recess becomes a great spot for bullying incidents. There is normally a blind spot where bullying occurs out of sight of adults. “Low level acts of aggression such as teasing, hitting, punching, and threatening occur frequently in schools across America.” - https://www.education.com . During recess is when most of the teasing, hitting, punching, and threatening occur. This bullying happening at recess can lead to emotional problems including anxiety, loneliness, and depression. So from this information encouraging recess is indeed encouraging
The general argument made by Steve Rushin in his work “Give the Kids a Break,” is that shortening or taking away recess all together for young children is hurting their well overall well being deeply. More specifically, he argues that recess which he refers to as “a universal human need” is being taken away in order to prevent bullying and lawsuits. He writes that taking away recess to prevent bullying is “like scalping in an effort to end dandruff.” He also writes of his own time in elementary school saying that all of his recesses would end “like round 8 of a prize fight.” He goes on to tell his own tales of the many injuries and torture from older kids that he endured reminding us that despite the harshness of the playground he turned out
The children these days are being turned into lamb chops, marshmallows, and princesses because we are banning sports that use physical contact, even dodgeball. The schools should keep dodgeball as a game in PE. Dodgeball helps with children's athletic skills, letting them participate, and not playing dodgeball can make children soft. There are mainly three points on why we should keep dodgeball in schools.
Ultimately, middle school student should have recess. Although some may say that recess takes away learning time for play time, which they can do during gym class they are wrong. Recess helps student be able to concentrate better in their afternoon classes, so that they can learn things quicker. Which overall they will learn more in the school year if they have recess. It may take away learning time but without recess by the end of the day teens are daydreaming. And will take way longer to learn things that should take them 5 minutes. Recess also gives students a time to make their own decisions and learn how to communicate with others when they get jobs. It also keeps students active and healthy so that they are able to come to school healthy
My first reason students should have recess is because students spend too much time with their nose in a computer, and this can be bad for your eyes. Some of today's kids probably can’t tell the difference between a ladybug and a rolly polly. Kids need to learn how to have fun outside and not on a computer.
One reason why some people feel this way is because recess takes away students class time. In the text it states “The government wants students' test scores to be higher. If schools cut back on recess, then students would have more time to study and learn, and teachers would have more time to teach” ("Should kids have recess every day?" ). This shows that when students have recess it takes away class time/learning time. If schools cut back on recess or didn’t have it at all and gave teachers more time to teach then students could score higher on tests because they had more class time to learn.
Don't you ever wish we had more time to run around after lunch for recess? Recess is great because it uses up some of our energy, gives us exercise, and lets us choose what we want to do. However, we only get 10 minutes of recess, which just isn't enough time for middle school students. For these reasons, believe SJNCS middle school students should have a longer recess time.
Recess By Teddy #6 Imagine that you just got to the playground at recess. You quickly start a game of tag, and what feels like thirty seconds later, are already lining up to go back to class. Nobody was even tagged!
Recess could help children have a happy and healthy
Why Should Middle Schools Have Recess? Are you tired of people complaining because we have recess? Do you want Recess for your grade? Recess is a very important part of the day. It is also valuable in many ways.
There is also a chance where strangers could come and interfere with recess, and do something bad. But there could be officers patrolling around the play area so that won’t happen. One more thing is that there could be bullying. But this could also be solved with adult
Do middle school kids need recess? Yes, Because a lot of middle school kids in the USA are overweight. It also benefits both their education and the physical aspect because they stay active and learn new things that they might not have know about. Also, it gives them time to zone out and relax after all the hard work they had to do.
I remember back in elementary school days when school life was a lot simpler. There were no dances, no college applications, no ACT, and a lot less stress. After a couple hours of repetitive and boring classwork, students at most elementary schools got to experience something called recess. Recess was basically just a gym class that was not for a grade. It was a time when you could make new friends, relax from a hard day; which were not commonplace in these times, or just have a friendly game of basketball. Six years and plenty of glorious recess moments later, it all comes to an abrupt halt. You walk into middle school and feel your heart sink upon realizing that the rumors were true; no more recess. Why do most schools end recess after elementary
There is evidence that having recess can ruin kids self esteem, or they can be humiliated because if they go to play a team sport, they may be the last to be picked (Strong). No one likes being the last one picked for a team. Without recess, students will not have to go through that feeling of being rejected, not good enough to play, or not in physical shape for the game. Other studies have shown that some kids do not use recess to it's real purpose. Students will just sit there, talk and socialize with their friends instead of move around and be active (PRO/CON:
All these recess times helps them outshine the u.s in test scores. But to talk about how recess help the brain, recess helps the brain by helping it relax, refunction. Just imagine sitting in a classroom all day learning and then you go out to recess to relax the
I believe there shouldn’t be longer recesses . Some people feel kids get more exercise and well get healthier . Some have argued that longer recesses mean more time for kids to interact with each other and make friends . I disagree because it means a longer time for bullies to strike.
