“And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.”
Deuteronomy 6:6-7
I pray that this missive finds you well and abiding in the endless favor of our all sufficient God!
Several years ago God moved upon the heart and mind of Bishop T.T. Scott, prelate of the Northern Mississippi Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction, to make choice of Pastor Larry Lee Lewis Sr., to serve as the Jurisdictional Youth Department President. For 16 years, President Lewis led our department with dignity, class, vigor and great distinction. Not only has President

He has not failed in his jurisdictional responsibilities in any way. Most importantly, President Lewis is a lover and promoter of the children, youth, young adults, and youth leaders of Northern Mississippi. He has created, developed, and fostered a holistic youth ministry, all by the leading of God’s Spirit. Through his leadership, our young people and youth leaders are equipped and prepared to be assets to their local churches, districts, jurisdiction, their communities, and the world. President Lewis constantly encourages the youth to “Get Their Learning but Never Forget Their Burning.” His faithfulness has not gone unnoticed. The National Church also looks to President Lewis’ exemplary leadership and he has been called to serve in various capacities. For the past 4 years, he has served as the President for the International Youth Department’s Southern Region, having served as Vice President for the previous 8 years. President Lewis also serves as Co-Chairman of the National Coalition of Jurisdictional Presidents and Co-Chairman of Regional Presidents. Still, he has NEVER neglected his duties back home. Indeed, President Lewis has become a respected churchman and a seasoned father to a new generation of sanctified leaders within the Church of God in Christ, Incorporated and

Lewis Foundation, is one of my proudest. While I do take pride in it, I do so humbly, for I did none of the work that went into making this foundation the structure it is today besides living my life as an example. The C.S. Lewis foundation was inspired by my life and life’s work, and therefore part of my lasting legacy. After my time, Dr. James Housten and James R. Hiskey were inspired by my life and life’s work in 1979 and created The C.S. Lewis Foundation (C.S. Lewis Institute, 2). While this organization started small, it has recently grown to become a power that I could not have done during my life by myself. Inspired by my life and ideals, the C.S. Lewis foundation function, as well. Like in the way I defended and explained my beliefs in Christianity, so does the organization inspired by my ways communicate their ideals. They take a simple yet rational path to the work they do. Their aim is “to advance the renewal of Christian thought and creative expression throughout the world of leaders” (C.S. Lewis Institution, 3). They work through small group discipline to raise and inspire young adults and children to communicate and defend their faith effectively. They raise leaders who can lead worship and participate in biblically and modernly relevant issues (C.S. Lewis Institution, 3). This work
To begin, in the journal, Paul G. Lewis, et al inform citizens to know their laws in the state they live in because they can be changed and local police can have federal authority. States with hispanic commander in chiefs have a better chance of not seeing so many discrimination towards immigrants. Authors go on to saying, “We find that immigration -supportive city policy commitments and the presence of a hispanic police chief are associated with less immigration enforcement by local police.” People that live in sanctuary cities have it a little easier to not have fear of being discriminated. Undocumented people that live in areas where they are not welcomed have a harder time adjusting and fitting in. Just because someone is not from the
One organization that is becoming increasingly popular, is the new youth church. These churches are made up primarily of young adults; those that attend gain a sense of belonging by their family-like structures and “cell groups”. They also dabble with the postmodern and nontraditional ways of worship, to attract outsiders, and they have a strong emphasis on missionary work.
John Lewis questions if there will be a time when a political party will actually protect the rights of the African Americans, and when fighting will no longer be necessary. Lewis implies that the government is not doing anything to protect the rights of African Americans because he constantly asks “where is the political party that....” (para 6). John emphasizes his idea and argument through multiple rhetorical questions and examples. The significance of the evidence that he uses proves that the government is not doing anything to stop the inequality in America. Additionally, in paragraph six, Lewis asks, “What did the federal government do when local police officials kicked and assaulted the pregnant wife of Slater King, and she lost her
In chapter one, Cannister claims that when teenagers matter, student ministries will thrive. Cannister begins by showing what most churches are doing by outlining the “good enough” principle, a mentality and form of organization that states that 80% of youth/parents will be satisfied with only 20% of the effort, much like a consumer. Cannister, however, advocates for a comprehensive youth ministry or a ministry that does not just focus on safety, what the parents want, or only
Dr. Anthony Jordan is the Executive Director-Treasurer of the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma (BGCO). The BGCO is a convention of 1813 Southern Baptist churches comprising of about 614,000 members. This organization’s purpose is to help the churches that are members of the convention spiritually, financially, and structurally. They provide a number of camps and conventions for people to attend and use. They also provide assistance in handling the business and professional aspect of a church’s ministry. One of the most popular camps that the BGCO puts on is Falls Creek Youth Camp where around 50,000 students attend over an 8 week period. Dr. Anthony Jordan has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Southwest Baptist University and a Master of Divinity and a Doctor of Divinity from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (BGCO.com). He has been the Executive Director- Treasurer for the last nineteen years. Before he became the Executive Director-Treasurer, Dr. Jordan served as the lead pastor at Northwest Baptist Church in Oklahoma City from 1982-1996 (ohbc.org). The members of the BGCO have been very positive about the way Dr. Jordan leads and structures the convention. In the rest of this paper, I will inform you of how Dr. Jordan handles ethical dilemmas, how the convention is structured and the culture surrounding it, and the leadership style and qualities that Dr. Jordan uses and exemplifies as he holds the position of Executive Director-Treasurer of the
Victory Baptist Church is a case study of revitalization. It serves to show that it is possible that younger churches can become complacent very quickly when they experience growth at such an awesome rate. Victory Baptist Church seems to have a promising future in sight. One of the main goals of the associate pastor is to keep a sense of urgency and change occurring. Most of all, he know that this work cannot be done without the help of the Holy
With the knowledge that I have acquired at Walden, it is my responsibility to do something with the knowledge that I’ve received. As one of the youth leaders at my church, we have planning meetings to assess our progress within our ministry. Since I have being attending Walden, I have learned a lot about the importance of setting measurable goals, having realistic objectives to achieve a mission. Now, in our meetings I bring awareness to these key components and ignite the group to incorporate these effective strategies to track our development. Some members appreciate my input and others probably wish I would remain silent. But I realize that I have a duty to share and implement what I have learned in a practical non-threatening
The Boston Baptist Church youth group has been one that has thrived in the past years as it reached out to the community at large and attracted youth to it’s programs. In the past year, other churches in the community have decided to reschedule their youth group meeting times to the same time as the Boston youth group. As a result, the population of the youth group has dwindled to an average of five to six youth in attendance. It is interesting to note that the most consistent attendees are ones from the community instead of the church, which is because the church does not have an abundance of youth in the congregation. While this group is very small, every third month there is an opportunity for youth groups in the area to combine and come together for a program called Hive. This program allows for the youth to meet others in the area, have a great time and to support each other in Christ. There are also special events within the Boston youth group once every month where they will go ice skating, go on a hike or something else similar. The goal of this proposal is to; present a plan where we are able to focus on the spiritual growth of the youth and to focus on how we can reach out to the youth in the community.
It is during a time of great trepidation that I am writing this letter to our Salt River Valley General Baptist Fellowship churches. As we observe the condition of our churches, and the moral corruption of the world we live in, it is apparent this conference is well overdue. We are doing ministry in a time when the world no longer wants to hear our message let alone believe in our God. In this day people attend church but no longer see the need to make a commitment to the church.
Even though I heard whispers of my call in my early twenties, I had disregarded any thoughts of seminary as passing notions or fleeting whims. I worked various positions prior to my medical career for the simple purpose of funding my education. However, one thing remained constant. Children. Even as a child myself, I was always volunteering for children’s activities within the church, from nursery attendant to VBS crafts, Sunday school teacher to Education Committee member. Jobs which did not consist of interaction with youth, left me craving a connection. Even as my medical career began, I found myself volunteering at the local YMCA as a soccer coach. Looking back at my gifts and passions, it finally became clear to me that God was calling me to youth
We discussed problems that were going on in the world like school shootings and killings; we talked about these events and how we felt about them. In this meeting we discussed not only about the outing but we got to share something about ourselves. The purpose of this meeting was to talk about previous events and goals for the upcoming outing at the York Convention Center. I came here to interview one of the leaders of prison ministry and to get her input on what was prison ministry to her. Our goal during the meeting was to find a scripture in the bible that the children could relate to in their lives.
Warm Greetings in our Lord's name. How are you? Its been a while I sent you a mail. I pray and hope you all are doing well and taking care of yourself.
