The purpose of this paper is to explore my leadership profile. Eight questionnaires and reflection and action worksheets were completed in Introduction to Leadership: Concepts and Practice by Northouse (2012a) to understand my current leadership qualities. A summary of my leadership style, questionnaire results, and a self-reflection on the identified leadership qualities and developments is provided below.
My Leadership Style As a leader, I am organized and provide a lot of support to other group members in the form of guidance and motivation. I prefer to meet regularly with group members to ensure communication is occurring and questions or concerns are being addressed. I value group input when establishing a plan and creating a list

For instance, once a group is established, I created a database that lists all members, particular skills that that member and I believe will uniquely contribute to the group, goals, specific tasks, deadlines, hours to complete, and completion rates that are updated every week. This database is accessible to all members at any time and is revisited and updated during every group meeting. I believe that knowing the arrangement of the group and status of tasks is crucial to being successful as a group. Additionally, by staying organized and providing guidance and motivation to the group, I hope to prevent members from procrastinating, submitting suboptimal work products, or loosing focus.
Leadership Profile Instruments Below is a summary of completed questionnaire results from a total of eight chapters in Introduction to Leadership (Northouse, 2012a). Two chapter questionnaires and reflection and action worksheets from each of the four modules in this course were completed. Note that the questionnaires and reflection and action worksheets were completed in the 2nd edition of Introduction to Leadership (Northouse, 2012a), but the electronic version of the 3rd edition of the textbook was used as a reference for the sections below.
Module 1: Chapters 7 and 8

First published in 1987, The Leadership Challenge is a guide for becoming leader. The book received many awards and its above two million copies are internationally sold. The book teaches principles of leadership that apply whether the leader is running a sports team or a fortune 500 organization. The book includes stories and examples of many leaders from micro to macro level (Founders and Authors, 2013). The basic leadership principles can be adopted by anyone to challenge status quo and increase leader productivity multifold. The book tells about the flow and hierarchy of values too (Machedo, 2013). One can use the guide without an instructor to develop leadership traits.
According to the textbook, Introduction to Leadership: Concepts and Practice, there are over 100 definitions of the word “leadership”, and all of them are unique in their own way (Northouse, 2015, p.1). There are so many different aspects to leadership that is it nearly impossible to have one definition that covers every area. Each and every person that is a considered a leader has his or her own way of leading because every situation, whether it be work, a team, at home, etc., calls for different and distinctive ways of leading people. Northouse states that there are six main aspects of leadership; it’s a trait, ability, skill, behavior, relationship, and an influential process (Northouse, p. 3-6). Giving a clear answer as to what leadership is defined as is very difficult, but this paper will talk about my specific leadership skills and what leadership means to me.

An effective leader must have a plan for success. This includes a personal plan of growth as well as a professional plan for improvement. This paper will attempt to highlight my personal strengths and weaknesses as leader, identify the areas needed for improvement, and identify the leadership skills and practices that I will use to become an effective leader. This paper will also give an outline of the goals that I consider a priority and a timeline for this development. The overall result will be an inclusive leadership plan of development that I will use to grow myself as well as any organization that I work for in the future.
Throughout the entire course of this class, I have been asked to fill out different self-assessments related to whatever topic or approach to leadership Peter Northouse (2013) was discussing in his book Leadership Theory and Practice. Each one of these self-assessments were intended to help me in discovering who I was as a person and a leader. Some of the leadership self-assessments included the Least Preferred Coworker Measure from the Contingency Theory chapter, the Leader-Member Exchange Questionnaire from the Leader-Member Exchange Theory chapter, and the Servant Leadership Questionnaire from the chapter that discussed Servant Leadership. Many of these questionnaires I found to be very effective in helping me discover more about my personality traits and leadership style.
Over the course of this semester, I have learned about the theoretical foundation of leadership and management. From various leadership styles to numerous learning tools have all aided in shaping me to become an effective leader not only in the health care profession, but everyday life as well. Through utilizing these tools, I have managed to put them into actions through working individually and in teams which has helped me to learn more about myself and the type of leader I am. Throughout this action plan I will reflect on my definition of leadership, what I’ve learned about myself in the capacity to demonstrate leadership, my leadership strengths and weaknesses and three action steps that will help me to develop my leadership in the future.

Before this class, I had a very primitive and vague definition of leadership. Not only did I define it as per my views and ideologies, but I also said that each individual has their own definition of leadership. My initial belief was that leadership does not have a clear cut definition, but there were well defined leadership traits which made an individual. I also initially believed that personal traits did not translate into leadership traits with no strong correlation. After going through the various modules this class offered, it is safe to say that I have significantly redefined leadership and underwent a strong personal assessment. This paper talks what I took back from each of the class activities, assignments and how my self-assessment compares to the perception of others.

Leadership has a paramount importance in the business world. It is not about a position, but how a person can influence others in creating and working towards that common organisation’s goal, and to create meaning in the works that we do. This report begins with the servant leadership framework that covers what I value in leadership. Also included in this report are the self-assessments that measure my leadership potential and competencies. This report also covers the issues associated to the industry I have chosen to work in and address my person-specific issues.
Leaders come in all different shapes and sizes. Determining the kind of leader one will be most successful and best received by his peers can be challenging. After reviewing Northouse’s Leadership Theory and Practice, I have selected two different leadership styles that I believe will help me utilize my best attributes as a nursing leader. Transformational leadership was selected for the qualities of helping change and transform individuals at all levels of their development. The next leadership style I will be focusing on is team leadership. I feel everyone is part of a team and if we focus on working united we will have better outcomes.
Leadership, as I have come to know, is the product of skills, behaviors, strengths, and experiences their relationships among one another. Issues such as: What makes a successful leader? As I asked myself this last question, I began to slowly look at what leadership means to me personally and how I personify it in the way I conduct myself as a leader. To answer the first questions I posed, I feel that I must understand how I orient myself in leadership practice through the use of a personal leadership inventory. This paper intends to explore my personal strengths and values as an individual and critically apply them within a leadership context. Based on my personal opinions, data collected from personal inventory surveys, and the use of leadership theories, I have developed a sense of my emerging personal leadership style.
