MGT 521 Leadership is the personal capability of influencing a group of people to initiate a goal and to motivate them to work towards achieving that goal (“Leadership,” 2010). It is important to distinguish between leadership and authority for that, authority does not always indicate a person being in a leadership position. A leader can be in any organizational position, whether high or low, and still have the power to guide others in accordance to a collective vision.
What leadership is not in affiliation with is the exercise of power over others, again exhibiting authority merely. For instance, the strategy of punishment and rewards in purpose of driving others to do a certain task is not a practice of leadership (“leadership,” 2010).
While a manager needs workers to follow orders, a leader needs follower who voluntarily joins his track. In a speech of President Bill Clinton, he stated that once a leader knows how to explain and analyze the current situation, he is then capable of establishing a plan, not orders, to reach for a different situation (“Lead,”2015).
Not only the leader is able to transform the situation in any given context, he is also capable of changing the attitudes, identities, and mind-sets of his followers (Leadership,” 2010). Any company is in constant need of a leader who can open the doors to extraordinary opportunities that might not be achievable through chores that a manager wants to follow
Leadership is the process of influencing individuals or a group of individuals by providing purpose, direction with the support of others, and motivating those individuals with the purpose of accomplishing a certain obligation which is helpful to all individual that is involved.
Leadership is the ability of an individual or and organisation, to influence other individuals and its team to achieve a desired outcome. Influence is a very under-rated aspect of leadership. No individual would follow a person who does not have
A leader must be able to move quickly from one agenda to another. A leader must be able to inspire a person or a group of people to want to do their best. A definition of leadership can be, “A relationship through which one person influences the behavior of other people” ( Mullins, p. 904 ). One of the biggest problems that a leader in any organization has to deal with is change. Leaders have to be versatile and willing to make tough decisions in today’s economic climate. In chapter 14 President Eisenhower made reference to leadership in yet another way when he said, “I would rather try to persuade a man to go along, because once I have persuaded him he will stick. If I scare him, he will stay as long as he is scared, and then he is gone.” Leadership is pursuing and guiding people to do right not scaring them (Baker,2015).
The role of leadership is an important position within an organization or group, since this position may influence an environment, both, the individual, and the climate. In the event of concentrating on how influential leadership may be, some leaders have transformed the views or perspectives of individuals within a society. Therefore, it’s possible for leadership traits to motivate, persuade, or stimulate visions, rather they are appropriate or unethical.
Leadership is a concept that has continuously evolved through history. No matter which nationality, race, background, religion or education, leaders around the world are constantly challenge to find resolutions to the world current conflicts. Regardless of different motivators, circumstances and approach, world leaders are an example of dedication and their main responsibility is to gather followers and encourage them to together make a change. World leaders work with passion to reach a purpose, they nurture leadership, engage with followers, create trusting relationships and embark in a journey in the quest of powerful solutions (WLF, 2015). Bill Gates stated “As we look ahead into the next century, leaders will be those who empower others” (WLF, 2015); but leadership without goals and vision is not complete. These two elements are necessary to fulfill the purpose of a great leader.
Leadership is the ability to influence others and directing their behavior to achieve common goals. It is therefore the responsibility of the seat toward the group to reach the set objectives.Another definition: is a process designed to influence the behavior of individuals and to coordinate their efforts to achieve certain goals.Leader: is the person who uses his influence and power to affect the behavior and attitudes of people around him to accomplish specific objectives.The wise leadership that will be able to lead others in order to achieve outstanding achievements and this kind of leadership have a head start in understanding the current situation and what affect it of developments as they be able to understand what will be the future
From the beginning of human history, the need for an individual that could carry more than his share of the weight, while possessing a quality that made others try to imitate them, has been essential for progress and endurance. The definition of leadership is a person who could lead and inspire others. At these times, the tendencies of human naturedemonstrates compassion, community oriented and egotistical individuals. Understanding the concept of cooperation, individuals also discovered the need for an exceptional type of person to lead and guide them, using their expertise to the advantage and benefit of the group.. Strengths, skills and abilities are the deciding factor for an exceptional leader. The introduction of industrialization and technological advancement ushered in a new workplace environment and the need for leaders in the workplace, and our local communities. With changing times, so did the meaning of leader change. From being a strong general with the goal and ambition of decapitating the enemy, to being responsible for organizing and managing employees to function and execute tasks in the best interest of the organization. Because of the uniqueness of individual personalities and character traits, leadership can be very difficult to generalize. Instead, a leader is one who is endowed with a charismatic personality, talented and can influence others to follow them.
In order to be a successful leader, leaders need to be a risk taker as well as an innovator of original content, but those qualities are only a part of a leader’s traits. A leader needs to create his own personality and leadership style, for a leader is not taught but cultivated through experience and personal epiphanies. Managers are often characterized as a leader, but there are distinct differences, as outlined in Bennis’ (1989, 2003) Understanding the Basics; managers follow the set guidelines and control the situation, whereas leaders cultivate and innovate the structure and builds trust within the organization. If the leader is driven and focused, the organization will follow, striving to accomplish the ambition of the leader. The great leaders of each generation have a commonality, they’ve created and shaped their own identity; great leaders have been the innovation of themselves first and foremost, before they’ve led organizations, institutions, and or governments.
Leaders help themselves as well as their followers to do the correct things. They set bearing, form a moving vision, and make something new. Leadership is about mapping out where you have to go to "win" as a group or an association; and it is alert, energizing, and rousing. And a good leader should have several important attributes. (Bennis, 1990)
In chapter one, the concept and definition of leadership was introduced and according to the text, more than one hundred definitions of leadership have been identified by scholars and academic studies. What is clear is that leadership requires certain skills and traits of an individual that give them the ability to influence others in a way that motivates them to work toward and accomplish a common objective and goal effectively. While most traits seem to be somewhat inborn and natural to most leaders, it is true that others can be taught and develop the skills over time.
Like the name implies, leadership is the production of movement, and that movement creates change. As architects of change, though the methods vary, the principal appears to be the same. Determine a direction, ensure followers are ready to move and empower them to overcome all obstacles en route (Kotter, 1990)
Have you ever known the word leadership? Many of people would have heard about the word leadership, but do you know what it means? Leadership is a process of social influence, which maximizes the effort of others, towards the achievement of a goal which mean the person who have leadership skill should be able to leading people, influencing people, commanding people and guiding people. What about leader? Who is a leader? A leader is a credible person who can alters one’s thoughts, feelings or actions in a manner that enlists other to pursue the accomplishment of a common goal.
According to Simonton (1994, p.411), leadership is the ability of an individual to influence, motivate, and enable others to contribute toward the effectiveness and success of the organizations of which they are members. And the leader is a person who has this ability.
Leadership is the ability of an individual to guide people, teams or organizations. According to Rath & Conchie (2008) there are 3 attributes that make an influential leader: invest in strengths, incases themselves around the right people to maximize their team and they empathize with their team. Leadership skills is something that can be taught and each leader can discover new ways to expand their leadership style. This paper will examine the writer’s leadership style, showing the results of the personality assessments, how to build upon the strengths and discipline the weaknesses, how to motivate others with leadership skills and how to foster my emotional intelligence.
