Lee College is currently hosting an exhibit of art created by students. During the tour of the exhibit I saw some very interesting art that I could relate to. The location of the art exhibit was placed in an area in which anyone could see and appreciate the work students had performed. This was my first time touring an art exhibit at Lee College and it was a very unique experience. Art itself is interesting because it has many different points of view. It can be attractive and appealing or unappealing if seen from a different perspective. One piece of art that caught my interest the most was a painting of a man with part of his face dissolving, like it was being faded away. It caught my attention because I perceived it as if he was slowly
This painting is done with oil on canvas. The painting itself holds visual texture and substance. The repetition and sorting is well executed. With some other works, subject matter which is so simple can come off as bland and boring. Yet Thiebaud was able to turn something so simple into a beautiful piece of art. Wayne Thiebaud uses heavy pigment and defined shadowing. All while the attention to detail is divine. With the well defines brushstrokes to luscious look of the frosting that coats the pieces of cakes. The color is vivid and imminently captures your eye; with intensity and he uses his shading properly while also using proper proportions as the pieces of pie
One pleasant afternoon, my classmates and I decided to visit the Houston Museum of Fine Arts to begin on our museum assignment in world literature class. According to Houston Museum of Fine Art’s staff, MFAH considers as one of the largest museums in the nation and it contains many variety forms of art with more than several thousand years of unique history. Also, I have never been in a museum in a very long time especially as big as MFAH, and my experience about the museum was unique and pleasant. Although I have observed many great types and forms of art in the museum, there were few that interested me the most.
Art helped me learn to express the feelings I couldn’t say and during that time period and I choosing to study it is the greatest decision I have ever made. Art is the reason I live now. It gives me hope, happiness, and an ability to escape. I love how it can change my view and to make me feel things. This year one of my illustrations was hung in the Museum of Contemporary Art: La Jolla, and I could not be prouder.
“This world is but a canvas to our imagination”; which always has been throughout the years. Art has been separated in different categories such as architectures, sculptures, photography and paintings. For my semester project, which was to visit an art or historic museum; my classmates and I went to the Reynolda House Museum of American art which provided us both the art and history. At first, we all assume that the visit would be boring or the art gallery would be dull. What shocked us the most was the actual experience being in the museum instead of just talking about it. We experienced multiple feelings during our visit in the art gallery as well as the historic area. From the art gallery which held many paintings of artist, to the house that R.J Reynolds and his family once occupied. Furthermore, it also showed us the legacy of R.J Reynolds and his family has left behind for the people of Winston-Salem.
The shift from Realism to Impressionism in the 19th century represented not only a change in form, but it also represented a shift in ideology. As one of our module videos notes, rather than focusing on accuracy and clarity, Impressionism emphasized “what the mind and the eye sees” and the “impression of light and color.” We will briefly discuss how the differences in the approaches of the Realists and the Impressionists had interesting implications for arts and how these ideologies can be applied to the ways in which believers and unbelievers interpret art.
Union University Art Gallery plays host to several different artists’ galleries throughout the year, for free and open to the public. Currently on display is “Hodgepodge”, a collection of about ten canvases by Brian Bundren. While Bundren has been painting and displaying his artwork for quite some time (his first gallery was in the mid-1990s!), “Hodgepodge” contains paintings only from 2013-2016.
Rose DiRocco-Hodges stands in the Lycoming College Art Gallery located in downtown Williamsport. The Long Island-native is the Director of the Lycoming College Art Gallery, a downtown student-run downtown public art space. “I became interested in art through my older brother, Ralph, who was an artist.” She states. “He would take me to art museums, photo shoots, and various places like the beach, the woods and highly populated areas where he would photograph, draw and paint. I enjoyed watching him as his projects came to fruition. He valued my opinion, and he was always thankful for my honesty.” Her worked as an artist for an advertising agency in Manhattan before becoming ill and passing away at the age of 31. “I believe Ralph gave me my interest and love of art, in all mediums, and I am grateful for the time I spent with him, and also that I can continue being surrounded by
At the California Center of the Arts I learned a lot about many artists and their many works of art. Throughout the Heated exchange exhibit of Contemporary Encaustics, Jan Jaylo: All these answers that may never come out and Living with the muertos: A Dia de los Muertos Experience by Daniel F. Martinez I learned many interesting facts that change the way I view art work.
This semester I attended the Art Institute for the first time. At first, I did not know what to expect, so I was not really exited to attend the Art Institute. When I arrive to the Art Institute as soon as I walked in everything changed. All of the sudden a big smile appeared on my face. Walking around the Art Institute and looking at the different types of exhibits made me realize that this place is the most beautiful place I have ever seen. The Art Institute has a variety of art exhibits from European culture to Asian culture, as well as Greek culture. As my friend and I were walking around the Art Institute we decided to enter the Modern Wing area, were they were having a Charles Ray exhibition. The art piece that stood out to me the most
My experience to the Dallas Museum of Art was a bit different from the last time I had attended the museum. I was curious to see what pieces of art there would be and if it would be the same as the previous visit which was long ago, but to me all the pieces of art were so different and very interesting. It may have been because I saw all the pieces in a new perspective since learning about the different types of paintings there can be and knowing how and where sculptures come from. Even though I do not know much of art I really gave it a try into seeing what the artist may have wanted us to get out of his work. By reading a view of the chapters made me aware of art, I wouldn’t call myself an expert, but it was actually nice knowing that a
The S.W.O.T. analysis for the Cinicinnati Art Museum is what gives the viewer the information to easily see what is wrong and isn’t wrong with the museum, while providing information on possibilities the museum can capitalize on and what threats could harm the museum.
Located on 99 Gansevoort Street, the Whitney Museum of American Art is currently host to an art exhibit by Laura Owens. According to curators, her artwork portrays an “exploration of painting, architecture and perception”, which can be seen in her installation at the museum. In the late 1990s, Owens emerged from the Los Angeles art scene after receiving her masters from California Institute of the Arts. The experimental, abstract and innovative attitude she has towards art is displayed in her 60-painting-feature at the Whitney Museum. These artworks are representative of her career journey as some of them were created in the mid-1990s, when she was a novice artist, while others were finalized a few days before the exhibition. Alongside Owens’ installation are both permanent and temporary collections such as Grant Wood’s “American Gothic and Other Fables”, Zoe Leonard’s “Survey”, and Ilse Bing’s “Dead End II”.
One particular work stood out to me the most, and that was Sarah and Augustus. Sarah and Augustus is a relief sculpture, or denim drawing, that is created from various types of denim pants and zippers. I was drawn to this piece because of the of its duality of the mother and her son. In the drawing the mother is literally torn apart by her internal struggles. On either side her son, Augustus, seems to have different expressions. One side he appears to be somber as he clutches onto his mother’s hair and stares into the viewer, while on the other he appears to be shocked or curious about something that is unknown to the viewer. The mother, on the other hand, seems to be happy on one side, while concerned on the other. I believe that something happened in these two lives that caused them to lose something very important, possibly their home, because of their financial troubles. The mother is struggling financially, but, even though it seems like all is lost, she keeps pretending like everything is okay for her son. That is why she was smiling on the left side and her son appears upset. The right side represents the harsh reality in which she is upset and her son is dazed and confused by the entire situation.

As a student of Art History Survey I, I need to complete a museum paper. I wondered if this paper is really a necessary assignment. I did not think of this paper as an assignment, but it as an opportunity to discover and experience great works of art which are certainly more dynamic and realistic than what I learned in the textbook. For my trip, I decided to visit the Dallas Museum of Art, one of the largest art museums in Texas. This museum is a valuable place where I can be immersed in the vast world of art. For the first time I came here, I was really surprised by its enormous space as well as how it organized the different works of art from different cultures. Therefore, it was not hard to find four different works of art which I was definitely impressed, and I picked four works of arts from four cultures: Chinese, Greek, Indian, and Egyptian. When walking through these fascinating exhibits, I truly enjoyed my time with them, and this trip will surely be one of the most memorable trip I have ever done.
