Best Practices Upon review of the information provided in the textbook and through research required to complete the class assignments I have compiled the following list of my choice of the five best practices. The first among my list of best practices is a “student-centered learning environment” (Zemelman, 2005), this includes the classroom arrangement it displays students’ work and provides tools to improve performance during tasks. This practice also provides procedures and routines that create a safe and positive learning environment for students. It promotes the building of relationships between the participants. The second among my list of best practices is “teacher collaboration” (Zemelman, 2005); this is a tremendously important feature. This practice is the “meat and …show more content…
The third among my list of best practices is “content knowledge” (Zemelman, 2005), this practice is vital in order for students’ learning through differentiated methods that target their individual learning needs, whether it is auditory, visual, or kinesthetic in nature. This method should align with the lesson line as well as the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), the College and Career Readiness (CCR), and the district-pacing guides so that the students are aware of their targeted learning outcomes. The fourth among my list of best practices is “student engagement” (Zemelman, 2005), this is where students are actively engaged, challenged, and motivated through cooperative learning, grouping of students, providing instructional resources, high yield strategies, and using critical and creative thinking skills. The students are provided with varied and ample opportunities to practice and process new information. The fifth and final choice among my list of best practices is “the assessment of student learning” (Zemelman, 2005), this practice should include a goal setting and reflection stage in the learning process that allows the student the time to acquire
What specifically do you want the students to be able to know and/or do by the end of the lesson? (must align with content standard(s) above)
Another goal that I have had since the beginning of the course was to adopt an engaging and effective teaching style. My aim has been to take the positive traits of teachers that I have enjoyed, while keeping in mind the characteristics and mannerisms that I have disliked, and crafting my own unique teaching style. As I have lead class discussions, group readings, and mini-lessons throughout the semester I have began to develop a teaching style through trial and error. I have paid special attention to the list of 25 pointers for successful tutees from assignment two and and focused on making my teaching interactive, supportive, equal for all, and respectful. I have learned to appreciate that, concerning a student's individual success, a teacher taking the time to listen to their student is just as important as the student listening to the teacher.
William Bennett John Hattie, and Bert Creemers all produced lists that identified research-based practices that were effective in the classroom. The writer has used strategies that work from their lists on a daily basis, including differentiating instruction and reinforcement with play or games. Cooperative learning has also been used frequently to give opportunities for students to collaborate in order to negotiate meaning, teach and learn from one another. Benjamin Bloom’s (76) unit of instruction “guides teachers to the most appropriate use of research-based strategies but does not constrain them as to day-to-day lesson design” (83). Instructional strategies are integrated into the unit plan, but should remain flexible in order to meet student needs and goals.
The types of learning strategies were focused on teacher-directed, teacher-facilitated, and learner-directed strategies. Both traditional and active learning principles were incorporated in the plan as well. The Traditional learning principle is focused primarily on teaching the student through a lecture or presentation, which is correlated as a teacher-directed strategy. This strategy is focused primarily on teaching the student through a lecture or
These five practices can be simplified into the collaborative process of selecting what students need to
As the educational leader of the school, I understand that ultimately, I will be evaluated on student test scores on assessments. Nonetheless, I am also keenly aware of the essential connection between quality instruction and student achievement. Therefore, I must possess the understand of effective educational practices as well as the needs of my students. Finally, connecting the appropriate educational practices to meet the needs of my students through a collaborative practice with my teaching staff is critical to maximize student
Discussing and collaborating on a common methodology as teachers is very important because you need to recognize each others teaching style, behavior management techniques as well as if he/she has an opinion on a discipline procedure for the classroom setting. Being aware of each student’s IEP goals are important when managing academics as well as behaviors so that you are aware of their academic abilities and needs as well as their behavioral and emotional
There are several steps to follow when writing college essays. A student must follow them, so essays can be written correctly. These are the steps that a student must follow in order to get a good grade on a paper. A Students must make sure to put lots of descriptive details and information in their essays. The three concepts a student needs to evaluate their college essay are called coherence, unity, and support.
Summarizing and note taking teaches students how to put material into their own words and learn a proper way to take notes. Note taking can be hard for students, so as a future educator I learned to give my students time to take notes, revise, and ask questions about them. The next model I found important was homework and practicing. Homework is a great assessment for teachers because it also gives parents a chance to be involved. As a teacher I need to make sure my homework is grade level appropriate as well as review homework and connect it to my class lessons. Next, cooperative learning, I feel this is the most important because it incorporates the use of social skills, accountability, as well as group work. Lastly, setting objectives and providing feedback. This is also important for teachers so they can give students feedback. Teachers can never give too much feedback; however, students should know the expectations they are being held to. Also, when setting objectives teachers should ask students questions about what they want to learn about or what they want to learn more
Guideline 3 stands out to me personally due to the experience I had in my placement last semester. Teaching students to acquire the skills and knowledge to be better in their academic endeavor definitely requires considerable time of instructional planning; including what types of assessment techniques to use in measuring the students' performances on how much and how well they are learning the material being taught.
When students enter my classroom they feel comfortable and have a sense of belonging. The learning environment I provide handles every situation and meets the needs of the student. As an educator and mentor I am positive, creative and an intuitive to student needs. Being organized in the classroom is a key element to my instruction because it encompasses structure and student choice. I believe these principals are “best practices” for all learners to reach their full
I believe that the best way to learn is to have an interactive learning environment. In my classes, I will present a concept for discussion and reinforce the concept with an in-class group exercise and homework assignment. I ask students to display name cards each class so I can call on them by name, which helps foster a more personalized discussion.
Keeping the students’ rights and school policies in mind, once the whistleblower reports the information, the educator should invite the accused student to a private location together with another impartial faculty member present to discuss the situation. The educator would then inform the student that he or she has been accused of using his or her cellphone during the examination that day and would remind the student of the academic and school policies which clearly state that using devices, such as a cellphone, during the exam is strictly forbidden and provide the student with copies of the policies. The policies would be reviewed together and specific sections where prohibitions of cellphone use during examination are stated would be highlighted.
These are general guidelines to help undergraduate students write better essays. *Note that every assignment is different. You should take the time to closely read the instructions and meet with your Professor if necessary.
