This shows how she has obviously lost her childhood, and how the parents have a forceful attitude, having absolutely no break, even after such a large and significant pageant. Therefore further selection of images has positioned the viewer about the effects that beauty pageants and the participation in them can have.

In the story, “How I Lost the Junior Miss Pageant” by Cindy Bosley, the narrator tells her story about how she lost the Junior Miss Pageant. She takes us on a journey about how she watched pageants and rated the females as if she was the judge and how she got into the pageant and practiced. She told us about her and her mother’s struggles with money, men and ultimately how she lost the pageant. She went even further after the pageant was over, to tell the reader how disappointed her mother was because she did not win and her mother’s ultimate sorrow, her loneliness. This descriptive narrative allowed me to understand the text's main point: being accepted by others.

The movie is filled with humor about a modern middle-class family that is about to encounter a financial catastrophe but in the midst of their struggles they still find the beauty in life and the meaning in life. The beginning of the movie Richard, the father is giving a motivational speech about winning, he states “There are two types of people in this world, winners and losers”.(Little Miss Sunshine) Richard is a protagonist motivational speaker that is obsessed with winning. He is so consumed with achieving that he ridicules his family for not being perfect throughout the film. Richard trying to build up the ideal life or what he thinks is the ‘American Dream’ around himself. He chooses to ignore aspects of the life around him that he sees as unacceptable or out of sync with his ideal lifestyle, trying instead to fulfil his role as the authorative head of the family and provider. Sheryl is the mother who is optimist, she is always giving words of encouragement even when Richard is trying to bring down his family and she is all about being truly honest. Frank is the brother of Sheryl whom at the beginning attempts to commit suicide due to a broken heart and losing his standing as Americas pre-eminent Proust Scholar. Dwayne is the son of Richard and Sheryl and is committed to joining the air force. He also is very committed that he takes a vow of silence until he gets into the air force, but then he finds out he is color blind and breaks his

At the beginning of this film, the directors took a close up shot of Olive’s eyes with the reflection of the television screen on her glasses showing that she kept watching the re-run of Miss America pageants. This symbolized that her goal is to be a beauty pageant contestant. Then the directors draw camera as a mid-shot of Olive copying the new winner’s gestures. From this, we see a visual irony that Olive doesn’t fit stereotype of wanting to be a beauty queen and we could see that she lacks of glamour. In Rebecca, Jack Favell, is a very low key villain, he is not very important there more of a villain in Mrs. Danvers trying to split them apart and destroy I than Jack, the biggest enemy to the main characters is guilt and feeling out of place and not in control. This lack of control and villain of themselves is clearly shown in the scene of the home film, you see they were happy and in love in the honeymoon, but because of fear, doubt and some help for Mrs. Danvers, they lost the love.
