Livestreaming Apps Being able to view an event on real time while it is happening even though you’re not present were it is taking place connects people in a higher level. It is not the same to have something described to me with words or watching a video later than watching live while it is happening. That is the reason why livestreaming has become so popular. Just like social media and all the different platforms have become a part of the culture, livestreaming has become a very important asset to communicate and connect with others. The most popular apps that offer livestreaming are Meerkat, Periscope, YouTube Mobile Live Streaming or Facebook Live. Meerkat was the pioneer, but its competitors have gained more popularity and traction. According to statistics from AYTM, the most popular live streaming platforms are Facebook with a 59%, Periscope with a 29%, Meerkat with an 8%, and others with a 4%. YouTube’s platform is big, but Facebook and Periscope offer more interaction options that people enjoy and make them feel more connected to what they’re viewing. Facebook’s audience is already used to interacting, sharing, and liking the content that is offered through them on the platform. Periscope’s audience is used to the same since it is a Twitter livestreaming platform. According Brett Molina’s article, “Facebook Live or Periscope? Sizing up streaming video”, the three reason to pick Facebook Live are Facebook’s big audience, easiness to archive videos, and that people can broadcast from Facebook app. These are great and convenient reason since most companies have already developed a big following on the platform and consumers are accustomed to the company’s culture.
