my first song is Lucky by Jason Mraz featuring Colbie Caillat. I chose this song to represent the theme of love. I chose it because this song is about two people singing about how they are in love with their best friend. Hazel and Augustus started out, in my opinion as friends, they hang out all the time. Whether it is at the support group, watching movies in his basement, or trusting your life into the terrible driving of his. They were just always talking even before they were dating. my second song is Love Runs Out by One Republic. I chose this because it talks about devoting in the second verse. This relates to the book because of Hazel, before she meets Gus, is depressed. In the song, they speak of how they just want to be with a person that they can love. Hazel just wants someone to love. my fourth song is It Will Rain by Bruno Mars. He speaks of when his love leaves it breaks his heart and how nothing can save him. This relates to Hazel when after Gus dies she falls back into that depression. She at the funeral just is mentally dead. The love of her life has died. She had this great love and it was taken from her. my fifth song is If I Die Young by The Band Perry. I chose this song not because Augustus dies but when Hazel almost died. He was so in love with her and the song shows that you can live a short life but it can be a good one. At the end of the novel at Gus’ funeral, the author gave Hazel his letter and he spoke about her nail polish. He held her hand and said he would love her forever. my sixth song is perfect by Ed Sheeran. I chose this song because he's singing that he fell in love with this girl. This is like Hazel and Gus. They were kids when they fell in love but then he died. They had this “epic love story” where they would discuss metaphors and play video games. The song is just about falling in love which goes well with the theme of the whole
