Lung cancer is the deadliest form of cancer in the United States. It kills more men and women than a number of cancers combined. The disease has many risk factors that affect the chances of obtaining it. The leading risk factor is one that can be avoided, that is smoking. This paper will look at methods to find, diagnose and treat lung cancer. It will show ways to reduce chances of getting lung cancer and also look at preventive methods used.

Description of Lung Cancer
Lung cancer can be divided into two different types, small cell lung cancer and non-small cell lung cancer. Small cell lung cancer is the least common type and is mostly found in those that smoke a lot. It is also the most deadly because of the rapid growth it exhibits. Non-small cell lung cancer is a general term for many different types of lung cancer. These types are: squamous cell carcinoma, adenocarcinoma and large cell carcinoma. (Mayo Clinic, 2015) Lung cancer solely attacks the lungs but could metastasize further.
Signs and Symptoms
One factor that makes lung cancer so deadly is the fact that in the early stages there may not be any signs or symptoms. These will gradually occur on advancement of the cancer. Signs and symptoms that may occur are: a new cough that does not go away, any changes in a chronic cough, hemoptysis, dyspnea, chest pain, wheezing, hoarseness, weight loss without effort, pain in bones and a headache. (Mayo Clinic, 2015)
