Throughout my life, I have had life experiences that have influenced my interests and my viewpoints. I have been taught many lessons during my life that have changed my outlook on different situations. Several characteristics of mine have come from these lessons. These cases have turned me into the person that I am today. Characteristics of mine that I can contribute to the MSU community are my abilities of communication, leadership, and strength. One characteristic of mine that I can contribute to the MSU community is my ability of communication. Through different experiences, I have learned how to communicate well with different people in various circumstances. Sports is a way that I have executed this. I have played volleyball for 7 years. I have needed to learn how to communicate with my teammates, officials, and coaches on and off the court. My job has also taught me a different way to communicate with others. Working at gymnastics gym, called Mills …show more content…
My strength has come from dealing with the passing of my father and grandfather. My father, Brian Montgomery, died at the age of 46 from stage 3 brain cancer. I was only 5 years old. My grandfather was the closest thing to a father figure that I have ever known. When he passed, in the summer of 2014, I was heartbroken. Through a lot of thinking and struggling, I found the strength to get through the two toughest situations I’ve ever had to deal with. These two cases are why strength is my strongest characteristic.
These three situations have changed my outlook and viewpoints on a lot of conditions. I learned many life lessons through these experiences. I believe these characteristics have made me into the person that I am today. I believe that I am a strong person, who can help other people by communicating and using my leadership skills. I believe I can use all of these aspects for bettering the MSU
Throughout my life I have participated in a variety of activities that have shaped who I am today. I believe that these life experiences, commitments and characteristics I have developed will be beneficial to the UW-La Crosse campus community.
Because of my work ethic and dedication, I am truly passionate about whatever roles and activities that I assume. I always handle the task at hand to the best of my abilities and willing to give it my all. As well as this, I am able to voice my opinions and viewpoints, which I consider to be one of the most important qualities. Along with all of those traits, my experiences have provided me the capacity to cooperate and communicate with a variety of people is also essential.
A third strength I have is an inner drive to be able to stick to a task and get it done. Whether it is at work or at school, if I am assigned a task I make it a point to work at it until the task is done. If a deadline is presented in front of me I have something inside of me that forces me to keep working on it until it is completed and not just completed but done first the right way. Which leads to another strength that I have is a strong work ethic. In my profession in recruiting what I do reflects me and the company that I work for. When I go to recruiting events or career fairs I represent the company that I am there for. Everything about me such as my demeanor, my dress, my attitude, etc. reflects the professionalism of the company as well as any reports or products that are produced and put out by me. I take pride in my work and
I will contribute to the MSOE Community with my ambition and sense of civic duty; these characteristics were created by my passion for learning, my collaborative skills, awareness, and my assertive character.
All too often we do not think about our personal strength until a situation arises that causes us to use this natural attribute that we know as strength.
One major experience that has shaped me as a person would be the decision to join FFA my freshman year. FFA has allowed me many incredible opportunities and experiences these past four years.
In addition to my personal challenges my personal strengths interfer. A personal strength I have is talking , I love sharing my opinion. Another personal strength I have is giving good advice because I love helping people solve their problem or help make their lives easier. Lastly another personal strength I have is just listening because I am a good person to vent to because I don’t judge. Therefore I always spread positivity and lean a hand.
My second key strength is showing gratitude to others. If someone does something for me or helps me develop a new skill. I show gratitude to them by thanking them, and I tell them that really appreciate their help. I am there for that person when they need my help.
Strength doesn’t come from what you can do. It comes from overcoming the things you once thought you couldn’t.”
Strength is a quality that continues to carry mankind through existence. Without this attribute, humans would fail to carry on living. One can show physical strength by being able to push hefty objects, or mental strength by being able to endure the most unfavorable conundrums. For a person to survive any conditions, this toughness is an absolutely necessary trait that they must have. The Most Dangerous Game, a short fictional story by Richard Connell, and Who Understands Me But Me, a poem by Jimmy Santiago Baca, are both examples of how in any situation, it is possible to survive with forms of resilience. Characters from both of these stories are able to sustain themselves with their strength, whether it be physically or mentally.
I was always the kid in my family that enjoyed philosophical debate, and now with my recent love for African-American culture and history, I feel that the Telluride Association Sophomore Seminar would be just up my alley. Sitting in a room with a handful of other African-American high schoolers that have the same fire for learning and discussion as I would be wonderful, and possibly would foster a plethora of great new friendships. The workshops lead by the adult professionals would also serve as a good networking opportunity as well as the chance to understand what career opportunities would possibly available to me. I am a young intelligent poor African-American that has Haitian heritage living in Orlando, attending a predominately caucasian school on a magnet.
I do know that with whatever I do, I want to work with people. Yes, it is a vague vision, but I find that my strengths lie in my relatable and empathetic nature. I love initiating conversations with people and finding common ground. I believe that this is a significant strength to hold when communicating with alumni, potential donors, or any advocate of higher education. In addition to my people skills, I am an adaptable person. I can react to changes in a given moment, even if they may stray from the initial plan. Despite these changes, I am able to still meet the demands of the primary goal. This trait is crucial to have in the impermanent nature of higher education. Every year, people working in higher education have to discover new ways to reach the masses, how to advertise effectively on a budget, how to get the most diverse pool of applicants, how to get money to fund the institution or the scholarships of students. I want to make higher education more affordable and accessible to the masses.
The University of California at San Diego, UCSD, is a growing community of diverse individuals from all around the world, bringing various linguistic abilities, social, political, religious views, perspectives, and experiences. I have learned more about myself by exposing myself to different experiences. By doing so, my implicit biases, stereotypes and prejudices toward other groups have changed. I have found myself stepping out of my normal routines, which has given me a better understanding of people who are different from me and have led me to see how the stereotypes I had come to be. I have also learned more about myself by keeping those biases that I have in mind and taking the proper steps to correct them. Also I have learned that I must create change when working with or being around diverse groups.
Due to these events in my life, I am who I am today. I have become more of an open and wiser person and because of them, I have learned that
