Art Museum: Magnolias on Gold Velvet Cloth The portrait I choose to discuss is the Magnolias on Gold Velvet Cloth by Martin Johnson Heade. This portrait I believe is an oil, canvas due to the full vibrant color. What I like about this portrait is that it’s a beautiful flower. I am infatuated with flowers; I love having many things that are designed or have flowers printed. As I saw the portrait in the museum it made me visualize know suddenly what to write on my museum paper. I have a magnolia tree in my backyard. I remember my childhood whenever I and my older brother use to play on the swings and every time I saw a magnolia flower I will make my brother get it for me because I love the smell of the flower it remains me of lemon scent.

The flower is more astonishing and stands out as the object of the golden background and the golden velvet cloth is what makes the flower stand out to the smooth creamy white petals, the rough stems, and the waxy finish leaves. Orchids & Art, a quaint store tucked away behind Arena Liquor off Corporate Lake Drive in Columbia, Missouri, was brimming with wooden picture frames of various sizes waiting to be picked like ripe apples hanging from an apple tree. Navigating through the back of the store was like trekking through a maze. Glazed frames lay in the walkway, while others were plastered across the wall. An ethereal garden of beautiful orchids sat in a small corner towards the front of the store. Orange and white petals blossomed from pots of assorted shapes and sizes. It added a feminine touch to the masculine wooden frames. Kelly Coalier’s cartoon-like paintings, including one of George Washington with purple guns above his head, sat for
Prompt: Select and fully identify two paintings from different art historical periods and cultures that depict the same subject or theme. Then discuss how the presentations are a reflection of the culture and style in which it was created.
On Saturday, November 4th, I visited the Denver Art Museum in Denver, Colorado. The piece of art I decided to write about is called “A Mountain Symphony (Longs Peak, Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado)” This two-dimensional oil on canvas painting was completed in America in 1927 by Sven Birger Sandzén. This painting has not been on public view since 1927 and is located in the Denver Art Museum in Denver, Colorado. It was a “Free Day” at the museum, so I decided to attend by myself. I was unable to get a picture of myself in front of the work of art I decided to write about, but I did get several pictures of the artwork and a picture of myself with the “Free Day” sticker. I decided to write about this work of art because it was the only piece in the museum that really stood out to me and really caught my attention. A Mountain Symphony is a lively, beautiful landscape painting with a vibrant pallet filled with luminosity and broad brushstrokes. The sculptural quality of the paint surface reflect the influence of turn-of-the century modernist techniques. The balance of color and light brings happiness and joy to the viewer.
I have chosen a famous oil on canvas painting: Venus and Cupid by Lorenzo Lotto made around the fifteenth and sixteenth century during the Italian Renaissance period. Overall, this piece is extremely intriguing to me, I cannot imagine how the artist created it with such detail and precision. Overall, this painting has this happy and positive mood, but it is also makes me curious as to what this painting is about. It also gives me this feeling to smile for Cupid and Venus in the painting, rather than with them, as there faces are conveyed as being happy together. Its colors similarly, just like the overall painting, has this beautiful bright and cheery color that seem to suit Venus and Cupid well.
A while back my uncle took my brother and me to a trip to the Museum of Contemporary of Art in San Diego. However, on that day, the museum had an event of Mexican heritage artist. I do not remember exactly all the details on that day, but fortunately, I do remember one painting I was able to remember, the “Flower Seller.” At the time, I could not understand why the picture had impact me and was the only one I can remember well. When I was young, I thought the young girl was decorating, but now I doubt she was decorating it. Today, I do not know what the girl is doing anymore. Is she about to carry it? What is in the background? Is she in a market or a field? And why is it that I remember this painting so well?
The piece I am writing about is the Red Canna, by Georgia O’ Keefe. This oil piece of art is a painting that is nonrepresentational. The forms in this painting are flourishing which can be seen from looking at the flower petals developing across the canvas. The shapes in this piece can be described as sharp, organic, and curvy. The subject of this artwork is growing as means to the flower maturing which show more and bigger details. The location background of this picture is outdoors, maybe in the woods, the jungle, or by a beach. The location of this piece is currently located at the Arizona State University Museum. I found this beautiful painting on Santa Fe Campus on one of the wall columns. The light in this composition is very powerful
I went to the Art Walk event in Newberg and stopped by the Art Elements Gallery. I wanted to find a work that calls to me. At first I didn’t find much. The art was nice, but I didn’t get any special feelings on them. Finally, I spotted an oil painting on a wrapped canvas. It was called Full Moon. The work was created by Oregon citizen, Marilyn Higginson. It’s still hard to express what I felt when I saw this painting, but I felt a sense of peace when I saw the tranquil setting of the painting. My aesthetic scanning will give a description of the work, analyze the craftsmanship, the art elements, the art principles, and give my interpretation on the work.
The name of the museum I visit was the Lowe Art Museum in the University of Miami, I really loved the visit I enjoy it and I learn about so many cultures and different arts that amaze me of how they were so creative and passionate. The work that I select because it called my attention since I got to the place it make me change my direction and to go there because of that brilliant blue and fantastic size that had so much beauty in it. Breathing Glass by Sandy Skoglund she was born on September 11, 1946 in Quincy Massachusetts; she attended Smith College, where she studied studio art and art history from 1964 to 1965. When I stand up in front of that giant art I start visualizing and try to see her idea in my mind without really knowing anything about her. When I saw it I didn’t even see the tiny men in the bottom, where the head of the three figures that their body where like humans. The first thing I saw where the beautiful crystalize dragonflies in the back they were so many and with the same size. The human figure had different size for my interpretation was like a woman, a children and a man. That feeling that the work aroused in me was of freedom because when you
In art, there are qualities that speak louder than words. It expresses many different messages and emotions and each person has an experience different from the next. In this paper, I will be discussing two artworks I encountered. The piece is a good example of how people can encounter different experiences in one piece. I attended the Orlando Museum of Art a while back with family and overall enjoyed my experience. On my visit, I found the museum quite impressive and felt a deep connection with specific pieces.
The exhibit is located at Texas State University, San Marcos and I visited on December 1st. The titles of the work I chose was The Photographer, Getting Even, Carousel Bartender, Chandelier and Alex’s Music Room. The year this work was published was in 2003. The art shown is photographs in black and white and is hand tinted with color oils. The subject of this art is to showcase events in everyday life. By expressing it emotional and creativity by capturing the things many people wouldn't think that are a realty Paint of the artwork is really has a lot of going on outside of the main attraction. In Alex’s music’s room the first thing that captures your eyes is all the red in the painting and the violins, harper and the cymbal on the floor. When you look closer into the painting you can see crazy details. Like the lions laying around in the music room and the candles in the pieced looks as if it's a person not really a candle. The decoration on the chandelier looks like there is really gems hanging in the art. In the art piece Getting Even its isn’t as detailed but it makes you wonder how did Schenck catch this moment on his camera. The painting its taking place in some field of flowers. It’s late at night and it looks like a man is about to kill another person but the other human being is just standing there. I guess the person is getting even by homicide since that’s the name of the painting. The painting doesn’t really focus on the people in it. It focusses more on the scenery because its more emphasized in the painting. The people are more a shadow and in the background I would say. My favorite painting out of the five would have to the be the Carousel Bartender you can see it in my expression. When I was looking at the art this was the first painting that caught my attention. The lights caught my attention since its almost
My gallery will feature portraitures throughout history. Portraits have been around since the beginning of art. History affects every aspect of our lives including art; artist changed the style of portraitures depending on what was going on in the world at that time. At first portraits were only painted of the wealthy or someone who was deemed important. In these times, it was usually kings, queens, or religious figures that they believed were worth painting. The first picture I choose to feature in my gallery is a piece titles An Allegory of the Tudor Succession: The Family of Henry VIII. The artist of this painting is unknown but is believed that is was created around ca. 1590. This painting is an oil on panel that pictures Henry VIII sitting on his throne with his family surrounding him. This is a perfect example of what a family portrait would have looked like many years ago. Whoever the artist was created an exquisite painting capturing every detail of the subjects clothing, the tapestry hanging behind the king, the rug, and the outline of the city featured in the background. The painting has a lot of maroon and gold colors throughout that give it a very rich look. I think this picture fits into my gallery because it shows just what painters were asked to do in this period which was focus their talents on capturing the important people in history; in this case, it was Henry VIII and his family.
The two works of art that I have chosen to analyze are 1) Jordan Casteel. Miles and JoJo. 2014. Oil on canvas, 54” x 72” and 2) Aaron Fowler. He Was. 2015. Mixed media, 134” x 165” x 108”. The themes that these works of art represent in regards to the exhibit are love, family, and pain. However, they also fall into other thematic categories. The main theme that seems to apply to both “Miles and JoJo” and “He Was” is Human Experience. Additionally, these arts differ in some ways.
Portraits have always been an important genre in painting. Portraits were primarily created for royalty and nobles because they exuded power and wealth. If you were able to commission a portrait of yourself, you were a very important person. As time went on though, portraits became less exclusive and middle-class people were able to commission or purchase portraits as well. After a visit to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston where I observed several paintings, I found three portraits that interested me that I will now analyze and compare - Bartolomeo Passarotti, Portrait of a Man Playing a Lute, 1576; Jan de Bray, Portrait of a Boy Holding a Basket of Fruit, 1658; and Hippolyte-Paul Delaroche, Marquis de Pastoret,1829.
One pleasant afternoon, my classmates and I decided to visit the Houston Museum of Fine Arts to begin on our museum assignment in world literature class. According to Houston Museum of Fine Art’s staff, MFAH considers as one of the largest museums in the nation and it contains many variety forms of art with more than several thousand years of unique history. Also, I have never been in a museum in a very long time especially as big as MFAH, and my experience about the museum was unique and pleasant. Although I have observed many great types and forms of art in the museum, there were few that interested me the most.
The colors and materials used really draws your attention as soon as you step into the doors. It used many everyday materials, such has trash, yarn fabric, and random objects you find around your house. The exhibition in this gallery is called Forget Me Not which will be leaving on December sixth. The point of this exhibition is to mirror the process of memory through forgetting. It also includes artwork from a number of female contemporary artist who are around the Atlanta area. Some of the art work was made based on the patterns of wind movement. It showed the different waves of the wind by using fabric of different colors to signal the directions. Two other pieces of art work were made out of trash completely. Each piece with the trash intertwining with each other. Other pieces just looked like random trash taken out and put on shelfs. Although all the pieces were very interesting, the one that caught my eye the most was the biggest and most colorful one of them all. It covered the entire wall. It was called Sunset Portraits from 28,029,142 Sunset Pictures on Flickr on 7/14/05, 2008- ongoing by Penelope Umbrico. It was a big collage of photographs all piece together. In fact the artist just sent the pictures to the school and the students and staff were able to piece the photos together any way they wanted. Umbrico questioned the idea of the democratization of media, and where it claims to foster subjectivity and individuality. She also address how images function on the internet rather than physical time and space, and also how it is depicted on the web then how it is printed out on paper. She takes the images on line as a collective archive that represents us as people. This work really draws the viewer in with the peacefulness of all of the sunsets put together. The different colors and the silhouettes of the people who are happily enjoying each other’s company gives off a certain
