Around the world cosmetology is being introduced like Egypt is suggested to be one of the most ancient culture that associates with cosmetics. In ancient Rome and Greece those who could afford it would receive baths in lotions. They wore perfume, face powder, blush, eyeliner, and lipstick. Makeup should be a way girls can express themselves and should be able to feel confident with the way they are with or without makeup. In today’s society, appearance is everything. Four in five women wear makeup however we should change that number to zero in five. The word “cosmetics” comes from the Greek word kosmetikos meaning “skilled in adornment” (Sage 33). The evolution of cosmetics has truly changed through the centuries. The way people wear makeup and the reasons why they wear it have changed dramatically over time. The Roman philosopher, Plautus, once wrote, “A women without paint is like food with out salt.” The attraction of a beautiful face did not appear yesterday; painted ladies and even gentlemen have been known through time in artwork and illustrations. The art of cosmetics has definitely changed over time and through different cultures including: Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, French, Italians, and Americans.

The cosmetic industry has come a long way in its history. About 6 thousand years ago, the first cosmetic civilization was born since ancient beings tried to figure out ways to enhance appearance and to mask body odors. However, this proved to be problematic since the manufacturing process was difficult and harmful ingredients were being used especially by more esteemed persons in that era. With regards to western history, cosmetics was not well accepted by many organizations but in the 19th and 20th century, things changed resulting in industrialization and new entertainment industries that further influenced the cosmetic brands used worldwide (History of Cosmetics, n.d.).
