Martin Luther King Jr. was a very busy man and had many important life events. Some were good and some were not so good. For example one of his really big important life events was at age 12, when Martin decided to sneak out of his house, without permission (Manheimer). While he was out his grandmother Jennie died from a heart attack. This happening and getting yelled at for not being there, caused him to attempt to commit suicide. Another big life event was when he met his wife Coretta Scott, after a few years they had 4 kids. A couple years later in 1954, he became pastor of Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Alabama. 10 years later, in 1964 he received the Nobel Peace Prize (Source 3). He had a strong belief in nonviolence this is why MLK fought for the civil rights movement which lead the society we have today. His dream was halfway fulfilled and we can say halfway because still today in society even though there is no segregation, people still judge and still think wrong about others. History is something that we all learn in school. American history is important for me especially because I am an American citizen and it is something I love to study. Segregation is something that the U.S. has always been late on. When you think about civil rights who do you think about? Martin Luther King Jr.? There are a lot of civil right activist who are cast away in Martin Luther King Jr.’s shadow and they rarely get their stories told. I agree, that Martin Luther King Jr. is a person we should mention in our history books, but we should not just “glorify” him and leave the others castaway in his shadow. What Americans need to understand is that all races that are non-white were segregated and the African Americans were not the only people who suffered there were many others who have been shamed for their skin
