The crucifixion of Jesus Christ is a story most of us know by heart. A sinless man was crucified on a cross to save sin filled people. He had no ulterior motive, other than to save the people he loved. None of us are worthy of this kind of act, but Jesus did it anyway. Jesus was publicly tortured and humiliated. They whipped and beaten him far longer than any human should be. The soldiers put a scarlet robe on his back, forced a thrown crown on his head and gave him a wooden staff. They then proceed to mock him by bowing down and spitting on him. “He had borne Himself with firmness and dignity. But when after the second scourging the cross was laid upon Him, human nature could bear no more. He fell fainting beneath the burden”. (White, …show more content…
They removed his clothes, offered him wine, which he reused, and nailed iron nails into his wrists and feet. They raised his cross up, and peopled mocked him, saying if you’re God, save yourself! Jesus cried out, “Father, forgive them for they know not what they are doing”. (Luke 23:34, New international version) “With amazement the angels beheld the infinite love of Jesus, who, suffering the most intense agony of mind and body, thought only of others, and encouraged the penitent soul to believe”. The first one: God hates sin. It was never intended to exist. The second: God really loves us. He created us for his companionship, and only wants the best for us. God never intended for this to be a sin filled world. He meant for us to live a life with Him in the Garden of Eden. We were never meant to hate others, kill, steal, or do anything that goes against what He teaches. The crucifixion is a good illustration of just how much God hates sin, because He sent His most beloved son to this world to pardon us from it. He never wanted us to miss out on a life of perfection. That was never in His plan. God loves us so much that He put the most perfect human, his son, in the most pain for imperfect human beings. He was willing to sacrifice His son, in order to save billions of people, that never did anything to deserve that kind of love and sacrifice. Time after time God gave us a chance to get ourselves together. To stop living life in sin, and instead to live a life that is in accordance with His teachings. Every time we failed. Jesus dying on the cross was His last chance to save all of us. “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only begotten son, that whoso believeth in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16, King James
As Gillian Clark stated, “Jesus Christ was born in the reign of Augustus, the first Roman emperor, in an obscure district of the Roman-ruled territory then called Judaea. (Clark 4) Augustus led Rome 's transformation from republic to empire. At about the age of thirty, Jesus Christ was tied to a wooden cross and secured by nails. They went through his ankles and wrists, and he was left to die. Clark also stated that, “Roman law authorized this cruel form of execution, but it was usually reserved for slaves and rebels.” (Clark 4) The romans punished Jesus because he was accused of rebellion, blasphemy, subversion. After killing Jesus, Judaism became well respected in the roman empire.
In the Bible, God, sacrifices his only son, a respectable, revered "heavenly" figure, allowing Jesus to live amongst sinful people. In human form, Jesus treats the common people's illnesses and performs miracles to help them; above all, he cares for them and loves them. Jesus is selfless, endlessly devoting himself to helping and serving others, and ensuring that they will
Also, just apply what we do from day to day as humans. One day we will go out to eat have a lovely dinner, and though we are full, precede to a dessert that is not needed. Comes number less ominous. When that woman with a model figure dressed in BeBe walks by you grudgingly wish you were she. Hearing these inconsequential things, you would think nothing of performing them from day to day. These sins do not necessarily strike you as a good reason why we are innately born evil. Yet, according to the Bible gluttony lying, and coveting are all sins. In which every sin is weighed the same. Looking at sin this way, we begin to see how much we really do sin in a day.
• Writes about Christ suffering extreme penalty during the reign of Tiberius at the hands of Pontius Pilatus. Refers to an immense multitude of Christ followers willing to die for their beliefs. Pg. 82
Moreover, he was crucified because of pardoning our sin. I know this stories about Jesus, but, at that time, Jesus existentially came to me as the incarnation. I realized that Jesus Christ is my lord but also sincere friend as he came down to Zacchaeus in the plan of God. This is my experience of and understanding God and God’s love.
Jesus is stripped of his clothing in public in order to embarrass and ridicule him in front of his followers
Slide 4 27-34 The people came and put robes and a crown of thorns on Jesus. Why would they do this? Were they looking for a reaction from Jesus or just trying to shame him? While he was on the cross the people came by and said that if he truly was the son of God to call his angels and come off the cross.
There were a number of complexities directly related to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. The majority of these pertain not only to the reason for his crucifixion but also for popular interpretation of this act and the significance attributed to it. Jesus taught and did much that was contrary to both Jewish and Roman conceptions of law and religion. Many of his transgressions were also directly related to the nature of his death and the significance it would later on take. Both Romans and Jews sought Jesus' death because he was ecclesiastically and politically subversive, professing a tolerance and equality that was ultimately proven by the dramatic nature of his death and its consequences.
In the beginning of Genesis, God expects humans to be subordinate to him, and refuses to tolerate defiance. He sees no excuse for disobedience, and punishes Adam and Eve. God expects everyone to be perfect and castigates for every mistake.
Jesus Christ, God incarnate came to earth to save everyone from eternal damnation in hell. As humans, with Adam and Eve as our representatives in the Garden of Eden, they broke God’s one commandment, therefore allowing sin to come into the world. Because of this fall, we all deserve damnation, and because of the sin nature inside of us, everyone deserves to die and be eternally punished. However, because of the loving and gracious nature of God, He sent his only son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross to be our representative for sin. When he took the cross, not only did he bear the physical pain of the lashes, the dehydration, and the cross itself, but he also drank God’s cup of wrath for us. Everyone on earth deserves to be on that cross, but Jesus, through his great love for us, paid the ultimate price of his own life to save us.
The Romans thought that Jesus was a blasphemer who was using God’s name to spread his own false messages (Bredin 190) and ended up having to crucify him. This crucifixion was all part of God’s plan, and through this action, Jesus ended up
The film also depicted that crucifixion was typically a form of death that was harsh, violent, and humiliating, which is accurate in comparison to crucifixions in history. In the film, Jesus was spit on, and the Romans mocked him, saying that if were really the king, that he would save himself. This picture of the Jesus’ crucifixion, and the violence that forced upon him, that was displayed in the film, The Passion of the Christ was an accurate description of what actually happened during crucifixions during the ancient times (Religions).
Jesus had to carry his own cross, that probably weighed two times his size, all the way up to wear the crucifixion was going to take place. Already beaten and bloody, they lay him down onto the cross shaped piece of wood and begin by nailing his hands and feet into it and standing the cross up into the air. What a brutal sight it must have been for God to see his only son tortured like this, but the good news is that he knew what his plan was for Jesus and for his people and he knew what was going to happen after all this was over. Jesus died hanging from that cross, washing all of our sin away and paying the ultimate sacrifice. After he died he was wrapped in a white cloth and placed into a tomb with a boulder sealing the door to the outside world. Three days after being placed in there, the people went to check up on the tomb to find that the boulder was pushed aside and the white cloth was folded neatly where Jesus was laying. The son of God, the Messiah, rose again from the dead to fulfill his mission so that we may have everlasting life in God’s kingdom. God’s plan for our life and through Jesus he teaches us that if we follow in God’s word and make him our most prized possession and ask for him to be in our hearts that we may to “escape the penalty that God will execute upon all who have broken His
The Romans made it a punishment in order to prolong the suffering. Someone who was crucified suffered the ultimate amount of pain. Crucifixion was the most disgraceful, looked-down on form of death penalty. It was usually intended for slaves, “aliens”, revolutionaries, and criminals who committed terrible crimes. The only time a Roman citizen ever crucified another was for leaving the
As far as the violence is concerned, The Passion was very gruesome and disturbing to watch at some points. Some people think it is too much to see someone getting their skin ripped off with metal claws but I think it was a necessary part of the ordeal to which Christ was subjected and it brings home the enormity of what happened. Other films made his crucifixion out to be a graceful and peaceful death almost leaving out the fact that he was nearly flogged to death before even touching his cross.
