In this statement I describe my motivation for seeking graduate training in psychology at Georgia State University. It is my aim to continue my education in psychology, with the goal of pursuing a career that contributes to our understanding of cognitive abilities in both humans and non-human primates. My involvement in the academic community at the University of Georgia has contributed greatly to the refinement of my academic and career goals. Through my involvement in service organizations such as the Undergraduate Neuroscience Organization (UNO), I have gained a greater interest in how studies of the brain contribute to our understanding of the causes and treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. I have theoretical research interests in comparative cognition, human-animal studies, and primate behavior. Specifically, I am interested in how cognitive abilities such as memory and attention function in primates and how this functioning compares to that of humans. These research interests developed throughout my undergraduate coursework, research, and internship experiences. As an undergraduate student at the University of Georgia, I have taken a holistic approach to my education, combining a psychological and anthropological perspective to understand how the brain works both individually and across different species. As you may have heard, Mr. Swift has made a very modest proposal about what to do with the situation of starvation among adults. Mr. Swift has proposed that after a year of a child's birth, they be eaten if the family wishes. I, being a mother of a baby, currently, could not approve of this proposal more. Me and my husband together, concur, this will allow us to not go hungry, but also fulfill our wish to have another baby. We've always wanted more kids, but we only desire a baby. We don't want them after they have grown older. We already have an older son. Now, with this proposal, we won't go hungry and we can stay full for months on end and all I must do is push out a baby. No big deal.
Motivation is the force that makes us do things, whether accomplishing personal goals or completing tasks at work. Most people are motivated as a result of their individual needs being satisfied, which gives them the inspiration to perform specific behaviors for which they receive rewards (Kinicki & Williams, 2011). These needs vary from person to person, as everybody has specific needs to be satisfied. When we consider factors that determine the motivation of employees, many of us think of a high salary. This answer is correct for the reason that some employees will be motivated by money, but mostly wrong for the reason that it does not satisfy other needs to a lasting degree (Bizhelp24, 2010). Motivation is the number one driving force behind anything and everything an individual does each day. “Motivation is the desire to do the best possible job or to exert the maximum effort to perform an assigned task. Motivation energizes, directs, and sustains human behavior directed towards a goal.” (Honor, 2009). Motivation can determine the outcome of projects, goals, and can set limits on what an individual can obtain or what they believe they can obtain. Motivation often is the deciding factor on how successful a project in an organization is, and an individual’s needs and desires can both influence a person’s motivation greatly. Motivation can also determine how well an individual does in school, college, or university.
As a wonderfully made creation of God, man was created to have basic needs regardless of his cultural background. Certain behavior patterns can be seen in humans as early as our entrance into the worldly realm from out of our mother’s womb.
In “The Surprising Science of Motivation”, Dan Pink explained how the 21st century is requiring people to become more creative and think outside of the box. Allowing yourself to view all the possibilities instead of restricting solutions can provide more positive rewards. As a result, I find myself understanding the concept that external rewards like money are not the best way to motivate ourselves or others. Therefore, motivation lies within everyone by giving them the power to examine three elements of motivation which include autonomy, mastery, and purpose. There are two key things that are essential to having motivation 3.0. The two key parts are purpose and mastery. Each of these things have their own smaller components that. Motivation will always remain with me throughout my career in the future. I believe that everyone needs Motivation 3.0 in their life whether it's in their future for their career or education were all gonna need it.
When we see a person acting in an abnormal way, we cannot help but think “why are they doing that?” We form judgements about people and question the reasoning behind their actions in an attempt to better understand their situation. This ability to understand intentions plays an important role in today’s society, allowing us to relate to one another and form deep connections through picturing ourselves in that same position. Nevertheless, there are times when we are unable to relate, and unable to understand why someone chooses to act in a certain way, say a certain thing, or be a certain type of person. In life motivation will be needed to enhance the workforce in various ways, many organisations will use motivation to increase the percentage yield of an individual or to make an individual feel a part of the business or organisation. Throughout my life, I have had many situations where I was put in a group and had to interact with people that I did not know. However, these interactions have changed me as a whole. These communications also helped me discover my weaknesses and strengths. Through all of my group interactions, I have established the sense of responsibility, gained motivation and willpower, and developed a network of relationships.
Throughout my 5 years of college and high school in the U.S, this is the first psychology class that I have taken. This class has helped me understand concepts of the human mind, such as intelligence, problem solving, and differing personalities. One of the greatest struggles educators face is poor student attitudes. Behavior problems and lack of motivation manifest in education when students have misconceptions and poor attitudes about education. Many graduates of an educational program will enter the world with the ability to regurgitate information, but they lack the skills needed for innovation and problem-solving in their careers and daily lives. To assist in creating classrooms that foster motivation for learning, educators must be willing to self-assess their teaching methods and styles to gauge if their classroom mechanisms are engaging the students. As scripted and standardized lessons have become the expectation and educational norm, teachers must be willing to step off the beaten path to spark a deeper connection to the material for the students.
Learning is so important to every people in the world. Learning is very important because when, we learn we get new knowledge in order we can know about everything that we do not know. There are adage that said learn until the grave, that is means if we can learn whenever from born to die. The formal educations where place we can learn are preschool, kindergarten, elementary school, junior high school, senior high school, and university.
