In the underground music scene, bands sometimes will not even have enough money to rent a cheap hotel for a night to catch up on sleep, as well as bathe, certain kids from the area the band has played last will offer them food, a hot shower, as well as a place to sleep that night. (Greenwald 141) This would never be possible in the underground rap scene.
The Tightness of the Indie scene is one that has been a reason for the success of many bands that have worked their way to the top. Yellowcard is a band that has recently found huge success with their last album "Ocean Avenue". The reason this band had so much initial support and record sales for their album, was because of the underground's love for this band. A certain website called Absolutepunk.net was one of the biggest reasons this band found success in huge numbers the way that they were able to do so. (Du Nover 119) This further shows the way today's underground scene is one of the tightest there has ever been. There are many different noticeable ways in which the type of music a person listens to, ties into their daily activities. The most prominent is clothing style, as well as physical appearance. The Punk-Rock/Emo teenager, has a certain type of dress that often involves a few of the following things, hair that is short in back but long in front, or hair that is multi colored and long, a certain fondness of facial piercings, as well as extremely
"On those nights that I missed him most I listened to music" (Alexie 3086). Woven throughout Sherman Alexie 's work, "Because My Father Always Said He Was the Only Indian Who Saw Jimi Hendrix Play ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ at Woodstock,” is the theme of music. Its presence is a faint drumbeat of life, felt throughout the piece. It not only accompanies moments of sorrow, such as when the narrator listens to music while he is longing for his father, but encompasses every variation of emotion available to man, and because of its extraordinary influence on the characters, it takes on human qualities. Through music 's multidimensional effect on characters and its personification, Alexie highlights music’s everyday influence in life, suggesting that it is inescapable and necessary to the human experience.
Art has undoubtedly become a decisive aspect of our culture; embedded in the way we learn and grow on a daily basis. Art forms such as music, television and dance dominate our society as an outlet of freedom of speech for humanity. The evolution of music has rapidly exceeded its original classifications, developing new genres with greater appeal to an audience, hence its influence on society has expedited. In recent times, lyrics (specifically rap lyrics) have been introduced into the court room as a form of documented confessional evidence, evidently challenging law’s authoritative nature. This essay will closely follow the genre of rap and its relationship with law, through cases based in the United States of America (USA). In addition, the trial of Simon Bikindi in Rwanda and Smith v The Queen will be used to form an acute analysis on the influencing factors of relevance, identity, freedom of speech and current constitutional law.
Music can provide many positive and negetive effects on the teenage psyche. The effects of music include and are not limited to the altercation of study habits, introduction and development to slang, and damages eardrums. People very often describe a stereotype of certain groups of people pertaining to the music they listen to. For example, many people view hip-hop lovers as people who wear backwards hats and gold chains, or heavy-metal lovers as people who grow their hair long and wear gothic clothing. These groups of people do come together because of their common interest in music, but this common interest does not just come from nowhere. According a study conducted by professor Adrian North of Heriot-Watt University, ones taste in a genre of music is due to their personality. This means that what kind of music a person listens to says something about their personality. For example, professor North found that dance fans are creative and not gentle, while rap fans have high
Music defines people. Our generation uses music as a tool to get them through everyday life. Many students listen to music anytime they have a free moment. Sometimes this also means that they listen to music while doing schoolwork. My partner and I performed a study to find out if different genres of music affect 8th grade student's math accuracy. We tested three genres of music. The tested genres were rap, rock, and country. We thought that if we had 8th grade students listen to rock, rap, and country music while doing math tests, then their scores on the tests would increase the most while listening to rock music.
Music is arguably one of the world’s most important universal languages. Documentation of music can be found as early as Biblical days and can be heard all around. Think about all the places one is exposed to music: radio, TV, elevator, stores, restaurants etc. Every culture and country has its own style of music and the importance of music is paramount to individuals in many ways. Music is so powerful it can create a visceral response by lowering the heart rate and decreasing stress levels (Wright, 2017). Evidence has also shown music to activate areas of the brain that are engaged during “Other euphoria inducing stimuli such as food, sex, and drugs of abuse” (Wright, 2017, p. 3). Music, sound perception – the most powerful sense, can impact the way one feels and behaves (Wright, 2017). For the purposes of this paper, alternative music culture while has a wide definition will be focused on the music culture that was evident in Los Angeles between about 1985 until it became more mainstream in 1991. This centre of the culture in LA is important because most of the important record companies were and still are, based out of LA, since there was this centre of culture decision makers it’s not surprising that the city became a hot spot for musicians who wanted to become recognized. Also important is the sheer size of LA itself, any time you get a city as large as it is you get a wide variety of people living in a smaller area, communities come together and form various subgroups. One subgroup evident in LA at this time was those who fell outside the dominate music groups of the time, mainly, new-wave, hip-hop and hair metal (Mullen 2005). This subgroup was as varied as those who did not fall under the alternative heading, musically they could prescribe to anything from the funk roots of the Red Hot Chili Peppers to the 70’s influenced rock of Jane’s Addiction.
It affects the brain, in return effecting physical appearance and emotion which have a key role in personality development. As Veronica Gonzalez states, a Social Psychology Major, Honors Student, and Research Assistant, “Music is a display of personality identity for individuals: it is a topic of speech upon meeting someone new, a way of communicating experiences, and a manner of expressing culture” (1). Different music genres have been key in figuring out the various outcomes of personality, thus being the several influential factors upon personality. There are numerous ways that genres of music influence, what they influence, and the outcomes of those influences on personality, all the way into specific gender influences. Due to these impacts, it is proven that different genres of music can influence and have specific outcomes on personalities of individuals. The significant relationship between music and personality allow everyone, everywhere, to have an understanding of how substantial music impacts lives, and most essentially,

Music is a huge part of our everyday life. Many people don’t realize that music plays a significant role in in the way it affects the human brain. It connects and helps us share experiences with loved ones, friends, and random acquaintances. The variety of genres lets us explore the different emotions as we listen to specific songs, whether or not its pop, hip-hop/ rap, indie, country, rock/ heavy & death metal, classical, dance, jazz, blues, soul, reggae, and opera. Psychologists seem to believe the answer lies within the rhythm, tone, lyrics, and melody of the music. A great and inspiring songwriter/ vocalist, Mitch Lucker, said, “Keep listening to music, cause it gets you through everything. I promise.” My question is, why do people turn to music rather than friends or family? Considering this, what is it about music that helps us through difficult obstacles in life? According to many psychologist music can affect mood, health, mind, and learning ability.

Interpersonal violence which is defined as an individual using power over another in the form of violence whether that be emotional, physical, or sexual. Statistics show that the average American listens to around four hours of music each day (Stutz 2). This means that Americans listen to roughly 1,460 hours of some type of music every year. If people listen to this much music, there has to be a way to use it for good. Once people stop thinking about music as just an extracurricular or a way to pass time, the music movement will grow by showing others what crazy things it can do. Right now, America is all about using everyday activities and making them into something more. Being engaged in music, and all fine arts, is a perfect example of an underdog exceeding people’s expectations and doing great things. Music has been shown to make connections in the mind, aid patients with alzheimer 's and dementia, and help students succeed more in school.
When younger, music was simply something fun that passed time, but as soon as the song ended and the music stopped, that was is. Music had little significance to me. As I started to grow older I came to realize the value music has on oneself and the emotions it can trigger. It can light up a mood, expresses feelings, calm you down, and most importantly, be nostalgic. Music has the power to bring back important memories and moments, and often the people you shared them with. These memories come with a flurry of emotions, almost allowing you to relive certain times again, even if it is just for a short period of time. Not only to music allow you to “relive” certain moments, it also has allows you to reflect on each experience, gaining

After her prayer she introduces her husband, who comes out to emphasize the joy of being in Charlotte. Dressed in a blazer, light blue button up shirt and jeans, Dave talks with one hand in his pocket as he addresses the crowd—telling us that he believes “God has a word for everyone”, his voice getting louder on ‘everyone’.
