Before completing this research paper, I was completely clueless of what I wanted to study in college. Choosing a major for me was extremely stressful and difficult, because I am a very indecisive person. I tend to overthink everything I do, especially anything that has to do with my education. Ever since my senior year in high school, I’ve felt pressured by my teachers, peers and parents into picking a career path. What would stress me out the most was thinking of choosing a major as choosing what I would have to do for the rest of my life. I had the mindset that whatever I chose to major in would have to irreversible. However, after taking this career and life planning class, I’ve learned that there are endless possibilities and opportunities for young people like myself. Choosing a major is not choosing your future, but instead it’s opening a road to a new beginning in your life that at anytime you can choose to switch directions if you change your mind.
For this research paper, I chose Accounting as my career of interest. A general overlook of what an Accountant those is “analyze financial information and prepare financial reports to determine or maintain record of assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liability, or other financial activities within an organization”(onetcenter.org). Therefore, they have to meticulously be checking data, organizing paperwork and being able to identify trends in their work for the organization they work for. Some of the many tasks
My alternate career path is nursing. I think this would be a good career for me because in nursing you have to work with people and you help them, and I like to help people anyway I can. I didn’t pick nursing as my major because to be a nurse you have to go to school for four years and I didn’t want to do that, so I decided to do a degree that is only two years.
To many high school students, college seems like a far away land, a mysterious place where everyone wants to be yet not many know how to get there. As children, our parents tell us how much time we have to think about college, and that it is too far down the line to think about. The truth is it is never too early to think about your future. I, like many people, put little thought into my future career and now am lost in an unfortunate mix of indecision and anxiety. Not knowing where you want to be in the future is a hard burden to bear. Many of us tend to find out that we only know what we do not want, not what we actually do want. Do we want to be poor? Absolutely not. Do we want a boring job? Of course we don’t. We all want our
All throughout school, students are ask what we want to be when we grow up. Many of us know or have a pretty good idea, but others have no clue what they want to pursue as a career in life, whether it be furthering their education at a university or attending a technical school. There are other students that plan to start work right out of high school. Either way we all have a plan, and the purpose of this paper is to inform you of mine. I personally struggle in making big decisions like deciding what to do with my life, but then I realized I have been asking myself the wrong questions. Instead of asking what I want to be when I grow up, I asked myself what do I want out of life? what are some of my goals that I wish to achieve? This led
My career choice is a Forensic Psychologist. Since I first figured what I wanted to be when I grew up, it either involved science, medicine, and law. I went from Surgeon to Scientist then to Lawyer. It always somehow involved the criminal field. So, I did more research on what I could assemble and I came to the conclusion that being a Forensic Psychologist was the best route for me to take. In my paper, I will be telling you more in depth information about my career choice, how my thoughts of my career choice relate to the information of my career, my plan to get to this career, and furthermore my future.
Everyone who decides to enroll in college must, at some point, think about what area they want to major in. There are many things that students consider when choosing a major. Some make their decision based on what they think can make them the most money once they begin their lives in the work force. However, many students believe that if you choose a major that interests you and challenges you then you can use those skills that can help you in any career. (R. Landrum & S. Davis, 2014) Let’s face it. Employers know that when they hire someone straight out of college they are not immediately going to know
A big concern in todays’ world for graduating college students is being able to find a job right out of school. More times than not, there are many problems that occur when a student chooses a specific career path. In the short exert “Why Focusing Too Narrowly In College Could Backfire”, written by Peter Cappelli, he discusses in his opinion, as well as many others, the right path students should be taking. The lead way students should be following to secure they get a job in a field they will enjoy. Many students have trouble picking a college to go to let alone what major they want to focus on. Students are told to pick a major and start taking the classes for it as soon as possible without realizing they might not even enjoy that field of work. There are many struggles in college with picking the correct classes and
II. Main Point #2. Contrary to popular belief, Accountants, and the tasks that they perform, are an important part of most people’s everyday life.
Accounting is the study of how businesses track their income and assets over time. Accountants engage in a wide variety of activities besides preparing financial statements and recording business transactions. As a student who is not nearly at the precipice of adulthood, it is very challenging to lay down future plans that eventually, will dictate a crucial segment of your life. I, for one, not only speak for myself but for other students as well. Students like myself are quite dilatory when it comes to adhering to a respective future plan. Until the summer before my senior year, I was utterly indecisive about what career to pursue in college. During that
one of the biggest decisions of my life was choosing a major for my post high school education. Many people seem to have a general idea to what they would like to major in at a relatively young age while others have a more difficult time deciding what to do with their future and sadly I was one of those unlucky few.
In our society, I’m often asked at a very young age what I would like to be when I grow up. So I constantly reply, ''I'm going to be a doctor,'' or maybe a lawyer or a career of high pay. My parents will nod in consent and applaud me on the fine choice of professions. But as I age and mature, I most often realize that I really don’t know what I want to do. This problem of uncertainty is amplified in the years of high school when we, as students, must begin to make decisions on universities or careers that will affect the rest of our lives. The more we look in the mirror upon our choices; the more we examine our own motives, goals, ideals and values in life. We’ll start to realize we’re “not the first person who was ever confused and frightened and even sickened by human behavior”

If you believe this is the hardest decision there is to make about your future, how about the decision you have to make about your career? Is there anyone out there in the audience that can stand and confidently say that they are sure that the career they have chosen will yield precisely what they anticipate?

In today’s society, people cannot imagine life without technology. Technology has made life easier and has enabled individuals to do extraordinary things that were not possible in the past. As of right now my future major and career is in the accounting industry. Accounting has gone through many changes throughout the years. There are changes with technology, new regulations and standards, and the uncertainty of the economic market that may affect the accounting industry. The advancements of technology have been one of the biggest changes around the world, and it is also affecting the accounting world today.
