The competence principle is as old as mankind. Human beings are always looking for mastering skills and find ways to be professionally and scientifically competence. My current hospital IPPE rotation is located at Shore Medical Center, Somers Point, New Jersey. I am very impressed with the level of competency of all pharmacists I dealt with. They are interested in the quality of care they provide, and their knowledge is always up to date which provides it to all their students and residents.

As for the fifth principal from Code of Ethics for Pharmacists: “A pharmacist has a duty to maintain knowledge and abilities as new medications, devices, and technologies become available and as health information advances”2. Being competent these days requires more than the knowledge for graduation. One of the important goals of the academic curriculum is to encourage students to be lifelong learners. It requires getting continuous knowledge and education. Most of the employers have workshops or continue education credits for their employees to keep them competent to the changing environment. Changes that continuously ongoing in pharmacy practice and in the role of pharmacists will require that pharmacists have a different set of competencies to seize work
