My First Tattoo Essay

As a newly 18 year old, there are two tattoos on my body. One symbolizes the dirt that one collects while being blown in the direction of a future. The other is a direct link to a faith. It points to a firm stance on a belief. Are there any regrets? Absolutely not. Tattoos are very captivating and alluring. They provoke conversation which causes a piece of a story to be left with each and every person encountered. Tattoos also allow a person to feel that they are themselves. Meaning that they feel that their body has individuality. Is the right tattoo ever really something that a person wants? Yes because it leaves a gesture hope and, it shows your intimacy.

When everyone looks and acts remotely the same, people end up losing their individual identity. When people feel like they are losing their individuality, they try to find ways to redefine their uniqueness in society. One of the more efficient and permanent ways of self-identification is by giving yourself a tattoo. Tiffany Cross studied this ideal of self-identification in her article, Stigmatization or Decoration: Tattoo as Deviance, a Cross-Cultural Study, where she says that, “the tattoo historically has been that symbol of rebellion, and here we see the tattoo emerging as a symbol of values and beliefs anew. The individual establishes his or her independence because the tattoo as a symbol is still enough to visually separate oneself from society at large” (Cross 20). Most of the time, tattoos are very meaningful, and hold some sort of value for the person who has them. By having a meaningful design constantly a part of you, people have essentially rediscovered themselves. Tattoos can also act as symbols of memories or influential experiences for a person. They are a constant reminder of an event that someone wants to feel and reminisce in every day of their lives. Tattoos can definitely have a large underlying meaning for the people who get

‘The tattoo’ is a novel which was written by Chris McKinney about a young adult named Ken ‘Kenji’ Hideyoshi who was sent to the Halawa Correctional Institute. Inside he tells his personal struggle of living life as a Japanese male brought up in Hawai’i, being exposed to poverty, colonialism, violence, urban gangs, and drugs. In this essay, I will argue that one can learn criminal and violent behaviour by those who they hold close interpersonal relationships with, for example, family and friends. In saying that, I will be using the social learning theory looking in particular at Edwin Sutherland and his notion of differential association and Akers concept of differential reinforcement to explore the relationship between Ken Hideyoshi and Koa Puana.

In my opinion, tattoos can have significant meaning. It is understood that some people have gang related or derogatory art, however, a good portion of them are related to something that once happened in somebody’s life. Businesses

“Why get a tattoo? You do realize that they are permeant, right?” People get tattoos for a specific reason. Someone could get one to honor a family member that has passed away and they want to keep their memory alive, or they have a matching one with a loved one as a symbol of friendship, or they have always wanted one, but never knew what to get until the right time. Everyone has a reason to get a tattoo. Such as death, loved ones, and timing. Tattoos mean different things to different people.

One in every five Americans have a tattoo. It is no longer surprising to see people with markings on their bodies. Many believed it is a form of self-expression. Even though some cultures or religions view tattoos as a negative thing, that does not stop people from getting them. To have a better understanding about tattoos we must go back and trace how it all began. From the tools, they used to the ink, it is incredible how tattooing has evolved over the years.

The art of tattooing dates back to four thousand years. Historically tattoos represent many ideas. I chose three tattoos in meaning and symbolism. I selected a phoenix, dragon, and a cross. First I tell you about the phoenix.This fiery bird is known in a variety of cultures, each with their own meaning and symbolism of the phoenix. The phoenix is a mythical creature said to be immortal. It is depicted with great plumage that is typically set ablaze. It is legend that it set itself aflame to die and is born again three days later from the ashes.

As a kid, you’re not supposed to experience true sadness, or that’s what I thought. Losing one of the few people that care for you is one of the toughest things to handle, especially when you’re little. You know they’re gone, but yet you still feel like they’ll always be a part of you.

Different people have different reasons for tattoos. A tattoo could signify anything to its owner. The owner may also get a tattoo that seems to be an odd representation of what is signifies.

For some people tattoos are being used as a known accessory, the reason on why do people make the decision to get them is hardly if ever even questioned. The pain, the stereotypes, and the misconceptions that are often associated with tattoos would pose the question as to why would you choose to get a tattoo. Tattoos can be personal and good way of expressing yourself. Most people, they are shown as different symbols that each have an equal level of significance. The essential of each tattoo have each found the symbolism of them, and their cultural relevance has consistently been a trend found throughout history, religion, and art.

The tattoo is a very old form of body modification, but in spite of that there is still a certain rejection towards those who carry them in a visible area of the body, for some it disfigures what has been created in the image and likeness of God while for others associates this with convicts or gang members mainly because they were one of the first groups to use tattoos to differentiate themselves from the rest of society. But also it is true that there is a very limited understanding about this corporal modification that could be one of the reasons why it can not be appreciated as for how it should be. However, modern society reflects the current popularity of tattooing because it has acquired an entirely artistic meaning to a social expression and a way of identity.

I myself have tattoos, many people have tattoos for all different reasons they may stand for something important in their lives could be cultural or religious people feel that tattoos are a symbol of art. Judging a person on his or her tattoos is like judging a book by its cover or judging a person based on their race.

Tattoo is the act or practice of marking the skin with pictures, legends, etc, by making pictures in it and inserting pigments. Tattoo has been around for many years, it all started in 1991, at first it wasn’t used or view as symbolic but rather used to mark criminals or member is a religious group. In this generation, tattoo has become more popular among people especially adults and it has become more like a fashion.

Tattoo is a form of art portray on an individual’s body as a form to express themselves. The person I interviewed one of my best friends from high school. My friend is a female, who is 19 years old, and belongs to Asian Indian origin. She is majoring in Graphic Design at NC State University.
