Attending graduate school is incredibly important to my career goals for several reasons. I hope to attend Appalachian State University to complete my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in order to assist people who have experienced trauma relating to sexual assault, abuse, domestic violence, and similar issues. The primary reason that graduate school is essential to my success as a future counselor is that it will teach me the skills to provide competent clinical services to my clients. As a future counselor, it is my ethical and moral responsibility to provide services that help clients and do not harm them. Without continuing my education, I would simply be unable to do this. Attending a graduate program will allow me to participate in classes, practicums, and internships that will teach me a wide range of essential skills. Classes offered through the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program, such as Multicultural Counseling, Counseling Theory and Techniques, and Helping Relationships will all be vital in helping me learn to provide competent, empirically-backed therapeutic services. Additionally, elective courses such as Sexual Abuse Counseling and Women’s Issues in Counseling are especially relevant to my goal to become a
My academic goal is to graduate Argosy University with a bachelors degree in Forensic Psychology in three years time. Forensic Psychology is the study of the criminal mind, in a nutshell. The main motivation to achieve this goal would be intrinsic. I love asking questions and knowing the answers as to why people do what they do, and in a criminals case, what led them to committing the crime. This goal, however, may have some extrinsic motivation as well. Being knowledgeable about certain behaviors that criminals poses may help solve or even prevent a crime. In addition, having a degree will help open different paths in life, ones that may present me with greater job opportunities. My attitude toward the learning process will help my achievement of each goal because I am eager, determined and motivated. My greatest desire is to succeed in life, and obtaining an education is one thing I know will help me. I perhaps will need to make some adjustments along my journey. I do not know yet if I will find another educational path that intrigues me the most. For now, I do not feel that any adjustments need to be made.
My education goals start with graduating high school. I am on track to graduate with an Core 40 diploma with academic honors. Another goal of mine, is to graduate in the top 10 of my class. After high school, I plan on attending college. This is my second college I have applied to thus far, but I plan to apply to at least one more. I hope to go to a Christian College. During college, I plan to major in Nursing and receive my BSN.
From the beginning of my life I struggled to express myself. When I was learning to speak I had a speech impediment which hindered me in many areas. Later on I mostly caught up with speech therapy, but in that time I was too preoccupied to focus on writing and realized I needed to catch up with my peers. On each essay I was told to write in school I made sure to not only do my best but to also make sure I improved on each and every composition. I stressed over this growth and the importance of my writing to the point that my primary goal as a student was to become the best rhetorician I could be. I slowly learned, through my life, ways to improve and hone my skills in the art of speech. With body language, enthusiasm, and humor I made myself the best I could be, and with these tools I take the daily opportunity to practice through analyzing other people 's’ writing, my own compositions, and conversing with those who surround me.
I am on track to graduate because my grades from this quarter do not count until the 2nd quarter.
The overarching goal I hope to achieve from pursuing a degree in Industrial/Organizational psychology is to gain experience from conducting research and develop an in depth understanding of the field of I/O psychology. My previous experience in research has demonstrated that I have the ambition to achieve all of these goals, and I know that a Master 's of Applied Science in I/O psychology at the University of Waterloo will guide and challenge me to achieve these goals. Throughout my Master 's degree my objective is to work with people and conduct impactful research. I enjoy collaborating and learning from others which will allow for personal development and well-rounded learning. One of my academic goals is to get the best education possible at Allan Hancock College before I transfer. I will accomplish this by always paying attention to all my teachers and do all my work and most importantly make school my number one priority. Another academic goal that I have is to transfer to Cal Poly or Long Beach and obtain my Master’s degree in education. I also want to graduate with honor and with a 3.5 GPA or above. I decided that I wanted to be a teacher because I like helping people out and also I enjoy working with kids. I selected these goals because my economic background is not the great, most of the money that my family makes goes to the rent and daily expenses. We live in a small apartment and we are a family of five; we don’t usually go out and eat at restaurants only in special occasions.
Throughout my academic life, my teachers and peers have repeatedly told me to challenge myself. I chose to ignore that advice and take the easy route. I did not find any reason to challenge myself in school. My parents never attended college, so why should I? Just the thought of being able to afford a fancy college was out of the question.
