My life goal is to become a family nurse practitioner and serve as a primary healthcare provider for rural areas such as Amarillo along with its surrounding locality. Healthcare in rural areas is often limited or inaccessible, which often impairs the patient’s outcome, limits educational awareness, and leads to a shortage of support services for families. Once established, I would desire to open a clinic to serve those whom are particularly susceptible to the diseases of poverty such as those belonging to the lower income, rural, or minority demographic. Poverty increases the risk for chronic diseases and mental disorders, for instance, depression, malnutrition, and infant mortality are more prevalent among the poor. My objective is to provide
After I graduate from NUNM, I want to work as a primary health care professional in my own clinic in a rural or underserved area. As a Naturopathic Physician, I will be trained as a primary health care physician, which will allow me to have a direct influence in the management of their health. However, not everyone is able to receive care from a primary physician because the nation is currently experiencing a shortage of physicians. With the training I receive to get my ND degree, I will be in a position where I can serve those who do not receive the care they need because they lack access to primary physicians. Ideally, I will open my clinic in a rural area, where few health professionals work but health care services are needed. While these
When I was an Associate Nursing student, I had a goal of becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner in either a Doctor’s Office, Urgent Care Facility, or the Emergency Department. Since furthering my education with my Bachelor’s Degree and gaining nursing and life experiences, my goals have evolved over the years. I have become wiser and I treasure every day that I am blessed to provide care for someone else. I have gained valuable nursing experiences from underprivileged patients who have little or no health insurance. The fact is, these patients don't
This paper will discuss and provide information about the role of a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) in a physician’s clinic within a rural area. Due to the increased demand for primary care providers, it is important to discuss the FNP role within the healthcare system. The Association of American Medical Colleges estimates a shortage of 46,000 primary care physicians by the year 2025 (AAMC, 2015). The increased provider shortage and gaps within the rural areas provide a promising future for FNPs with the ability to provide primary care for the underserved. In America’s ever changing healthcare industry, FNPs are working in rural clinics across the nation in order for patients to have access to high-quality, cost-effective care.
Becoming a family nurse practitioner is my dream and my long term goal is to achieve this title and practice with it. I will be able to give back to several rural and urban communities by providing patients with quality care as a passionate family nurse practitioner. My ultimate goal after gaining immense clinical experience during my practice as a nurse practitioner is to give back to this amazing profession by transitioning to the position of a family nurse practitioner educator. The primary nurse practitioner program at South University will provide the advanced level of education I need to work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team to provide high quality, evidence-based patient care and ultimately impact the health of the entire population through patient education and outreach in multiple heath care settings.
To this day, my mother, a CNA at a local hospital where she’s been for the past 24 year, fears going to hospitals herself; let that sink in. This is common in the community in which I was raised and I’m sure in many other underserved communities across this nation as well. Many do not trust in our healthcare system and I want to work towards changing their perspective. I want to educate those in underserved communities on the importance of taking care of themselves and seeking treatment when necessary. Having been raised in an underserved community myself, I believe that I am in a unique position to truly make a difference. My other hope is that I can inspire the children of these communities to follow their dreams. Maybe, just maybe, they will be able to use our similarities as a starting point as they embark on the lifelong journey of self-identification and self-discovery. Having the opportunity to pursue my dream of becoming a physician, coupled with the potential impact that I can have on communities that are often neglected is the reason that I want to be a healthcare professional.
Goals, goals, goals they're what people think about and how they are going to achieve them in the future. My three goal in life are to get in the college of my choice, go skydiving and to get a well paying job. These three goals are important to me because they are what I am likely to achieve within the next ten years. As I grow and blossom into someone big, someone bigger than who I am today I don’t mean just physically but bigger intellectually, and more capable. These goals show me that if I want to achieve them, then I have to work hard to accomplish them.
The desire I have to strengthen and care for underserved communities derives from several sources. Growing up indigently in a rural, medically-underserved community and witnessing the damaging effects of indifferent primary care providers has increased my resolve to serve in all communities with compassion and solicitude.
The idea of a lifetime goal is a difficult concept for me. I used to believe that my goal was to become a successful lawyer like the one’s on crime shows. But what is “successful”? And what happens when I do become a lawyer? Is it just, “Done. Lifetime made.”? No, a lifetime goal is so much more than that. It’s something that I am trying and will probably never stop trying to piece together.
Some people are successful because they are destined to be such. But most people are more successful because they are determined to reach this goal. We just know what we want and how to achieve it. You would probably have laid out your plans for your life already, and that you would exhaust all efforts just to attain what you desire. But sometimes, we question, how come no matter how hard you try to perfect things the way you planned it, circumstances would not allow it? You start thinking, were your efforts not enough to achieve your goals? Or maybe it is just not meant to be? Some people may be too controlling of their lives and get burnt out fast. When this happens, your mindset tends to shift and they turn into a complete opposite of what they used to be.
These goals are rooted in my passion for rural healthcare, since I matured in Nacogdoches, TX, which is home to many farmers and ranchers. Often it is difficult for this demographic to seek and receive adequate medical care. Therefore, one of my goals would be to be work in neighboring rural areas to provide accessible care. Furthermore, I am passionate to the plan of starting my own practice and managing my own patients. I would also enjoy growing my practice to involve many like-minded doctors, nurses, and physician assistants to provide care for this unique demographic and provide an accessible route of healthcare
Nursing as a profession has provided many opportunities for me to grow not only in my current practice, but also in my foundation of nursing. I have observed healthcare from an inside point of view as a registered nurse, as well as from the patient/family perspective in my personal life. During each shift, I witness the major impact that education has on preventative measures of health. I would like to be a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) so I can utilize the clinical skills I have gained as a bedside nurse to provide a better understanding of health for patients and their loved ones. I believe that these goals will help me have a role in improving and impacting the well-being of a diverse patient population.
I am pursuing a career in nursing because I have a strong ambition to provide exceptional healthcare to individuals within rural communities who lack access to adequate healthcare resources and information. The scarcity of healthcare professionals within rural communities, in the U.S. and abroad, continues to nourish instead of eliminate health disparities. My diverse understanding of this issue is due to my undergraduate studies in Kinesiology combined with my own personal and professional experiences within various healthcare settings in the U.S. and Jamaica. As a nurse, I plan to educate unprivileged communities and ensure that all patients and families receive the highest quality of healthcare services in a caring and compassionate atmosphere.
My personal goal as a student at the University of Phoenix is to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management within the next two years. This goal is very important to me because of the impact it will have on my family, work and personal life. In my family it will set a positive example for my daughters, grandchildren, and youngest sister. My family has been a source of support throughout my years in college as I have pursued this degree while maintaining a full time job. Obtaining the degree will be an accomplishment not only for me but also for my family who has given me the encouragement to reach my goal. I would like for my grandchildren to remember their grandmother as a strong and educated woman.
Goal setting has always been an important factor in my life, because of that I have accomplished things that I am very proud of. Without goals it would make it very hard to succeed in life because there is nothing to work hard for. Goal setting is a constant reminder of the things that are important to you. It gives me the motivation to work hard every day so that I can achieve my goals. Goals are what keeps each of us different. Throughout my life, I hope to continue to set goals.
As most of my peers, I have been asking myself a question, what do I want out of my life? This question bothers many people, and not only the college students who are trying to figure out the path that will lead them to the comfortable life. One might ask, what is that comfort that we all are striving for? Is it a state of mind or is it some unknown world that we are so eager to enter. It varies from person to person; there are several aspects, such the way were raised, making, of our lives that could influence a person and the future decisions that we’ll make.
