Art. To me is something undefinable, what I want my art to show you is a piece of myself and a piece of yourself. Something we can all relate to; a memory, a song, a poem, art should make you feel something. Art is a gift, a tool we can use to hide beauty in ordinary places and things. I want to broaden my understanding of design and the world that art is beyond my knowledge and experiences. Because my love for creating burns so bright and deep within me, I am determined to find a career path that will allow me to explore the world of design and art every day. A number of art forms are endless and this seems like a daunting task to find just one path that can express the enjoyment and involvement I want to have with art. Throughout my life I have been endlessly drawing, painting, sculpting and creating--often times I feel almost cursed with such talent to create because the ability seems endless. I have taken a number of art classes exploring my passions as a High School Student and created many different types of works including oil, acrylic, and watercolor paintings; etching, embossed, and screen printmaking; charcoal, graphite, and pastel drawings; Sculpting with ceramics and plaster as well as wheel pieces. I find that there is few mediums I have yet to experiment with. I have become accustomed to Acrylic paintings as I have recently started to create paintings and sell them to community members. I participated in a local art fair and it opened my eyes to what art
My passion is found in art. Not drawing or painting though, it is Graphic design. At Tuscola Technology Center, I was enrolled in the Graphic Communications program. We design and create different pieces. Whether it is shirts, business cards, brochures, flyers, bags, etc. We produce it. There are many different processes used in graphics. I have learned all of the steps to be able to create anything I want to. Everything in graphics uses precise measurements collaborating with an eye for design aspects. Learning color harmonies is also a big part of graphic design. Color elicits emotional responses in a person. This helps to determine what colors and harmonies should be used. Art can be both formal and informal. If a person would like a project
I am interested in drawing. My love for drawing started from a very young age. Growing up surrounded by people who were very creative and promoted free thinking and imagination. This really contributed to my passion for not only drawing, but the arts as a whole. As a younger child I was often told that art could be found in the most unbelievable places. It can be any and everything you want it to be. At George school I intend on broadening my creativity and love for art. I want to be able to expand my talent and improve
The art form that I find captures my emotion the most would have to be a novel (literature). It was a close choice to me. While I love visual art, like photography and painting, I find a good novel to be completely captivating. I have loved to read since I was a child. I remember reading the book "The lion, the witch and the wardrobe" by C.S Lewis when I was about 7 or 8. The mental pictures that I created while reading the book were so vivid that it was, literally, like watching a movie. When the movie came out, many years later, I was comparing their creation with my "mental movie.' They did an okay job but mine was better! The picture was so clear that I initially couldn't remember whether I had read it or watched an earlier version
Jane Alexander, Chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), once said, “Many children are missing out on something which gives their education context, gives their lives depth and meaning, and prepares them to be the future workforce.” This “something” that she spoke of is music and art education. Unfortunately, she is entirely correct. We are currently seeing in our country a dramatic cut in arts education curriculum in our public schools due to the limited amount of both time and funding. In many cases budget cutbacks mean arts education cutbacks. This limited amount of resources often forces administrators to place a value on the various subject areas. There is always a
My passion for visual image started when I was 13 so I took pictures of friends and family holidays, but didn't really think much of it. My first Tumblr blog lead me to a whole new level of fresh talent: young photographers, stylists and designers, models and music artists, who became an inspiration, but also teens like me somewhat lost in their lives but eager to grow. By then I also bought my first i-D printed copy, with "Youthful" written on the cover and it totally changed the way I see youth and my aims as a young creative. At 15 I took it more seriously and started taking portraits for my blog. Photography is a medium that combines all intangible dimensions of reality into a single (sometimes touchable) frame that depends on choices:

One of the main areas of misunderstandings between Keith Schmidt and Peter Smith concerns the rate of expansion of the organization, an idea that originated from Schmidt (Caseforest.com 2010). Schmidt wanted the changes to be more abrupt in order to get the desired form of the organization. On the other hand, Smith was very conservative and wanted the changes to be slower contrary to Schmidt’s wishes. These repulsive views brought a lot of tension in the entire organization. The decision making process became slower obstructing various activities of the organization.
I have always had an interest in art growing up, but I never took any classes until high school. In high school, I took three years of art class where I absolutely fell in love with art where I could create a work of art of my own from my own ideas. When I first applied to LSU, I registered my major as Undecided Arts, but I didn’t know exactly what I could do with an Art degree. I then decided to change my major to General Business because I thought it was very broad and an easy major. While taking my business classes, I realized that I did not have any interest in business and that I should do something I truly loved. I knew I wanted to do something with art, but I wasn’t quite sure of what major I wanted to major in. I did research into what
Everyday we learn a lesson, but it it is a process that we must go through. It can feel overwhelming at first since the beginning is pretty much a blank space. At a young age my passion for art really showed; however, I didn’t quite understand how to start or knew any techniques that I could use. In time I was able to learn completely. I had many people there to help me in the process and once I did, it felt like I was taught to do something that could only keep progressing in. I learned that my artistic abilities were not automatically exceptional; I needed time and dedication to develop my talent.
Good art allows me to flee the realms of reality. In my mind's limitless consciousness, I can escape the mundanity of everyday life. It opens a door in my head to a world only limited by my imagination. I am no more a slave to gravity, chained down on the earth when I am reading. I can be a bird and soar high above the clouds, or be a fish and swim deep down in the darkest depths of the ocean. I am there, I am that person, and everything else around me regardless of what it is, fades away. Sometimes these people are the one's I'd like to be but sometimes I encounter nefarious characters I wholly condemn. I am able to feel the emotions that the artist intends for me to feel. However, it is not merely reading or listening, but understanding
The context, of which art is created, clearly reflects its history and where it is from. Society’s values are further highlighted by the piece and give us insight into what life was like. This is interestingly interpreted by Juan Bautista de Espinosa’s exuberant baroque style painting, with a heavily catholic influence from Spain in the late 1500’s, as well as Margaret Olley’s contrasting and simplistic sensibility of the mid 20th century. Each artist’s aesthetic, although significantly different; equally allow us to understand a certain time and place
Throughout history, artists had many different motivations for creating what they did. Some created pieces with religious significance, while others used art as an emotional outlet. The twentieth century carried in a period of artists with new ideas and intentions. Two twentieth century movements, Bauhaus and Minimalism, were not created to be symbolic or emotionally stirring as much of the art of the past had been. Instead, they were movements focused on functionality and simplicity. They disregarded the complex, realistic styles that had been popular throughout history and exchanged it with minimalistic styles. These movements ushered in a style that would heavily impact artists even today. Minimalism was followed very closely by Op Art and Conceptual art, both of which disregarded previous beliefs about what art was and its purpose. Op Art showcased illusions created with skillful tricks of line and shape. Conceptual art focused on idea, giving the concept more power than the actual execution. Despite their obvious visual differences, these four movements had quite a few similarities, including their disregard for the methods and mindset of classical art as well as their extreme simplicities. All of these movements have heavily influenced today’s modern art and built upon one another over time.
Go ahead, do it, eat it. It shouldn’t be this hard. But it is, it has been for 2 and a half years. It’s hard for a 15 year old. Art was the only thing that made life somewhat easy or tolerable. I just couldn’t get the stupid apple into my stupid mouth and then into my stupid stomach. After another 6 minutes and 45 seconds I left to do my homework, but I couldn’t. I couldn’t even do art, so I went for a walk, 6 blocks all the way to Gibb Street. When I rounded the corner all I saw was green.
Her spending habits were costly, as she always left holding a bag in her hand.
As I walked through the cold streets of New York City, I was excited to see the art galleries this city had to offer. I was surprised to find a multitude of free art galleries, scattered among about six blocks. Since I am a lover of the arts to begin with, I knew this project would be rewarding in two ways; one being to fulfill this class requirement, and the other to fulfill my desire to see some of the art presented in this magical city. I went to about 12 different galleries, some filled with photography, paintings, sculptures, and even videos. The photograph that spoke volumes to me the most, and that I chose to focus my project on ended up being part of the very first gallery I walked into. It was the very first image I saw among the hundreds I viewed that day. Displayed at the Fredericks and Freiser gallery in Chelsea, it is listed as Troy with a Guinea Hen Chick, GreenHouse Program, Rikers Island Jail Complex, New York, 2014. Photographed by Lucas Foglia, this image shows an inmate holding a baby chick. The inmate is clothed in an orange striped jumpsuit, with an unshaved face and disheveled looking hair. It seems to be a nice day as the photo depicts green grass and blue skies. A tender moment it shows as he carries the dainty chick in the palm of his hand. What distinguishes this moment from any other compassionate moment are the barbed-wired, green, chain link fence providing a literal and metaphorical barrier between life in jail, and life as a free man. Lucas Foglia captured this moment to illustrate the connection between government programs and nature. It conveys a political message to contradict the statistic that the average American spend 93% of their life indoors, but as I thought deeper into this photo, I started to find much more powerful meanings. Not only does this photo symbolize how humans coexist with nature, but it also embodies the spirit of a man who lost his freedom. Often times, inmates are perceived as dangerous, “big and bad” people, but deep down, I believe there exists a tender and delicate heart among every individual. To me, this photo symbolizes the human heart, and their gentle instincts, despite any mistakes made in the past. I believe that in jail, there is room for
