Writing has always been a passion of mine. I always have loved writing. A few years ago I found my true knack for writing, I wanted be an author. My favorite type of writing is writing stories of magic, love stories, and adventure. Being a YA Fantasy author is my dream job and I hope it is my job someday, but until then I have jump the many obstacles to get there. One of those obstacles is writing this portfolio. Obviously none of these essays have magic, love stories, or adventure in it so I had to write something out of my comfort zone. I had to dig deeper and truly test my writing skills. These essays don’t have magic, love stories, or adventure, but they show who I am and what type of writer I am.

It open my eyes even more and it was a really interesting, but sad topic to learn about. I got all my information and wrote my paper. Research papers have never been my strength. I love researching and learning new things, but putting it all together I always have a problem with. I tend to make research papers sound very factual. To overcome this for this paper, I spent a lot of time on it and tried to make it the best paper it could be. I hope I am improving on my research paper …show more content…
It is a narrative about a journey I have had. A journey I had was when my high school senior cross country team qualified for sectionals. It was a journey for me in so many ways and was a perfect to end my high school cross country career. Writing narrative papers are a strength for me. I have always loved writing narratives and it's easier for me than writing a research paper. For this narrative, I worked very hard on it and tried to make its best like I did with all my papers, but to me, I think this paper is the best of the three. I truly enjoyed writing this paper and did not take me as long to write as it took me with the others because I knew exactly what I wanted to write. This is my favorite paper out of the
If we are to establish that good writing is made up of basic control of the language that is being written, adherence to conventions of grammar and style, and the ability to present a cogent argument and reasonable support for that argument, I may qualify as a good writer. However, it must be recognized that there is a great deal of distance from simply being good at a subject or task and having developed mastery of the same. Thus, I would argue that while I am a good writer I have yet to cross the threshold of skill that qualifies me as a great writer. Greatness in writing exhibits a level of awareness and development of thought that is rare and hard to achieve. As a product of this class, I would like to find myself closer to that finely
Essay 2 was a paper I had wrote on the causes and effects of lying and by listing the pros and cons I was able to provide a clear thought. This paper taught me how to introduce a point, you could see this example in my third paragraph. In my third paragraph I talked about the then presidential candidates and how they were prime examples of the negative affects lying can create. My writing will improve more and more because of the newfound ability to catch the reader's attention thus persuading them into believing me. There are many genres to writing and the one that troubled me the most was a persuasive essay. I used to hate writing persuasive papers due to the single fact that I was not able to persuade anyone.
When I looked over my ePortfolio, I couldn’t believe how many pieces of writing I
I may not be the best writer there is out there but I do put all of me into each piece I develop. I believe in giving it your all at all times. If your giving it anything less why try at all. I'm huge on that theory and I believe it means a lot more than I believe it to be. I hope that each piece I submit this semester is nothing less than my best and I hope to take in all the criticism and use it to my advantage.
As I started to read the articles for essay one, I noticed that it took me a bit of time since I was not that interested in the topic. Doing research essays tend to be the most challenging and time consuming essays, especially if you do not have any knowledge of the topic being discussed. Luckily, I have written a research paper similar to this topic my junior year of high school, so I had some background knowledge of the topic being discussed. Developing a better understanding of the points being made within the article and choosing a position was the most challenging portion for me. It took me time, however; I finally managed to pick a position and find points to help back up my
Currently a junior, I have still to make my first attempt at the ACTs. However, I do plan on taking these tests at least once, maybe more, so that I will be able to receive a score that I feel is acceptable for myself. I test very well in school, so I feel like I should also be able to succeed on the ACTs when it is time to take them. If I’m not able to do earn a score that I’m satisfied with, it will probably be due to the fact that I didn’t prepare myself well enough by practicing on my own. It could also be because I wouldn’t focus hard enough during the testing. I possess some writing qualities that could help me and some that could hurt me on the English portion of the ACTs.
In my portfolio I have three narrative essays, three argumentative essays, three informative essays, and a poem. I had chosen the narrative essay Birds Nest Soup in my portfolio because it was one I enjoyed writing. The other narratives I put in my portfolio Mrs. Friez chose. I chose the argument essay Should School Day’s be Longer? to be in my portfolio because I believe school day’s shouldn't be longer. I chose the informative essay Rikki-Tikki-Tavi because I really enjoyed an article about it. My writing has improved a lot for example, I used to make more grammar
I really like the flexibility of writing this paper. The topic is very broad so I could write basically on anything that I want. As a writer who likes to do creative writing, I enjoy reminiscing memories before writing them down for the essay; I felt various emotions - joy, happiness, anxiety, fear - as I write the paper. Being able to write down your life story for others to read is a wonderful thing to do and I really enjoyed the process of outlining my experiences and crafting them into an emotionally powerful essay.
One challenge I faced during my sophomore year was racism in my Honors English class with Ms. Rice. I was the only Hispanic student in the whole class, where I was often referred to as “Mexican girl.”
As I looked back over my portfolio, I was able to see the progress that I have made as a writer. In this essay, I will assess my strengths and weaknesses as a writer and discuss the processes that I used when writing the pieces in this portfolio.
This semester in Mrs. Nelson’s class was a very interesting one filled with many interesting and unique assignments. One major assignment for this semester is this Writer’s Portfolio. When I was first told about this “Portfolio” I shrugged it off as it nothing, but I quickly had to come back to reality and get my work done. Creating this portfolio throughout this semester has proved to be a challenge. However, this portfolio has helped me to become a better writer by gaining a few skills along the way.
I have always enjoyed writing, and I believed writing was a subject I was naturally good at. I turned in papers that were still rough drafts, I did not evaluate my sources, nor did I ever take the time to fully understand the prompt. It was not until my first semester of college, in my writing composition course, I realized that I had a lot of work ahead of me to be as good a writer as I thought I was. In the writing course, the students were required to compose several essays using different methods to help progress on the course objectives. The work in this portfolio demonstrates that I have used the methods of synthesis and evaluation of sources to advance my critical thinking skills and develop personal responsibility. Though I have
This first semester at the University of Akron has flown by. I learned many new writing concepts that helped me become a better writer. English composition was a required class that I had to take in order to get my degree. Although this class was required I still wanted to take this class to become more knowledgeable about writing. Coming into English Composition I was worried about all of the papers and the workload that I would have to complete. I knew that I was going to have to write a lot more than I previously had in highschool, but I was unsure of just how much. The works that I decided to include in my portfolio comprise of my Literacy Narrative, Image Analysis Paper, and essay titled Mayas Hardships based on Maya’s experiences in I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings. I selected these works because I felt that they are the ones that require the most improvement to them. The papers i've chosen show how far I’ve came In English Composition.
Growing up I always loved writing. I can remember in elementary school, coming home to write some sort of poetry in my journal. Looking back now, I can laugh at the mistakes I made, or how silly something sounded. As any young child, though, I felt super proud of my work. I loved sharing it with people, but mostly, I loved sharing it with my mom. She would hang my work up on the fridge and show everyone. Some pages I just wanted to share with her and even then, she would still tell me her favorite parts. She loved reading my writing and I loved sharing it with her. My mom encouraging me to write as freely as I want directly influenced my writing today.
After evaluating my writing in my portfolio, I had to answer these questions: If I had more time to change my writing what would I change? What was my favorite piece of writing? and What was my least favorite piece of writing? If I had more time to change my writing, I would definitely ask for help understanding the assignment. I would change my research paper topic. My favorite piece of writing was Heaven or Hell? I enjoyed this piece of writing; I had a good understanding of Panopticism by Michael Foucault. I was able to relate it back to my life. With a clear understanding, I was able to show my understating in my writing. My least favorite piece of writing was the research paper. Although, I was very interested in the topic the
