The city of Rome during ancient civilizations was a large city filled with people residing near the center forum. It was believed for centuries that people living in Rome lived in the inner part of the city ,but in a recent discovery archaeologists are beginning to rethink their belief.
An area near Rome called Quirinal Hill was believed that it was only used as a necropolis. A necropolis is a section of a city used as a cemetery to bury the dead. In this place previously thought of only containing the bones of the deceased, archaeologist discover a sixth-century BC residence under a palazzo, a building in Italy. The finding of a house far away from the center of Rome proves that Rome was bigger than imagined.

The design of building Verbonia did require both intelligence and physical strength.The Roman City is brillant and bold but have you ever thought how much intelligence and physical strength it took in the long run? Different skill sets were needed throught the proccess. Also how the roll of intelligence and physical smarts comes into action. Lasty the steps of the whole proccess was a big roll in the building of the Verbonia. Therefore did you ever come to thinking how much smarts and strenght contributed into this project?
The artwork I chose to talk about is on page 232. Figure 8.16, Funerary Relief of a Circus Official, Ostia, 110-130. The medium of the artwork is made from Marble relief. The Tombs in the old days of roman families built outside of the city walls, along roadways entering the city. The vision of the monuments is to preserve individual’s fame, family honor, and status in the society. The extended family of the deceased also held feasts and putting out food and drink for the dead for enjoying. The large figure in the picture is the official himself, holding hands with his wife at the left side. The handshake symbolizes in the Roman art the indication of marriage. A Roman Impact on the United States Ancient Greece and Rome were both very influential to the United States. Greece is located in Europe and greatly known by its capital Athens. Rome is located in Italy and known for its influential architecture and culture. Ancient Rome more accurately reflects the social and political makeup of the United States compared to Ancient Greece. Ancient Greece positively influenced the United States in terms of economic aspects.
Throughout history many civilizations and empires have been considered great. The greatest empire ever was Ancient Rome. Starting in 509 B.C.E and lasting until 476 C.E (Ancient Rome and the Rise of Christianity, 1000 BCE–500 CE,). Ancient Rome started off as a small town on central Italy’s Tiber river and ended up expanding all the way to most Europe, Britain, much of western Asia, Northern Africa and the Mediterranean islands (Ancient Rome). Ancient Rome helped spread many languages, the western alphabet, the modern calendar and the religion of christianity all around the globe (Ancient Rome). The Roman empire lasted from 700 BCE until 476 Ce, and incredible 1,176 years. But how did Rome fall? Some say political squabbling. Others argue invasions. However, the downfall of Rome was due to military problems, and natural disasters. Earthquakes brought buildings to the ground, while illnesses killed thousands of innocent people. Also, the military was losing it’s edge. They decided to become lazy, beginning to think too much of themselves.
During all parts of the existence of Rome, burials and funerals were extremely important, even more so than weddings. The Romans believed that without a proper burial, a spirit would cause unhappiness for those living. While rites varied throughout different periods, traditions remained vastly, and always had the same importance.

The ancient Roman Colosseum is perhaps the most astonishing wonder in the history of Architecture known to man kind. The Colosseum served to provide a place of entertainment for the people of Rome and dole out harsh punishments portrayed through shows ending with death to menaces of society. The basis for the idea behind the Colosseum began with the Roman Emperor Vespasian who overtook the Emperor Nero to gain control of the Roman Empire. Much like Nero and other emperors during his time, Vespasian developed a reputation for conveying harsh punishment upon the citizens that jeopardized law and order in the empire. The importance of burial plays a great part during the time period of The Ancient Romans as they had a strong emotional attachment to the ceremonial burial of the deceased and considered it such an honourable achievement to partake in such a religious ritual such as the funeral and burial. The Romans also wanted to demonstrate iusta facere towards the dead - the great deal of respect they had as well as the rights they had as the departed.

Why did these people go to the city and what affect did the city have on them? Urbanization is a massive global trend in today’s world. People flock to cities in search of opportunities or a better way of life. What a city looks like today is vastly different than what Rome looked like almost two millennia ago. However, the causes for urbanization and the effects urbanization has on the inhabitants have stark similarities and differences in Ancient Rome and in cities today.
